Engine Swap - how much?

Postby wywywywy on Thu Nov 27, 2003 8:58 pm

Hi all,

A local bloke has an XR2i 8v which is super rusty to the point that it should be taken to scrap yard. However - the engine is in okay condition. He wants to sell the whole thing to me for about 50 quid.

Now I drive a 1.1 Carb, how much should I pay a garage to do the engine swap?

Or am I doing something really stupid, because I rang up a small garage found in the YellowPage, and the gentleman was literally laughing over the phone and said, "it would cost you."

Thanks.

Its a long days work, possibly even two. I'm not sure what a garage would charge but if you base it on a days solid work that would give you some ideas.

It means swapping over engine/gearbox, fuel tank, fuel lines, exhaust, brakes, and a few other bits and bobs.
