Engine Swap or Re-Condition

Postby crazy.george on Sat Oct 12, 2002 1:22 am

HELP!!!

i have been quoted £455 for a full engine re-condition for my fiesta 1.1 bonus but........

should i go for an new engine transplant??

i have about £500 to spend at the very most and thats on the engine, parts and labour.

or should i just rid of my bonus and go for a faster FRST or XR2i??

insurance is a major factor with me being 18 as well

any suggestions most grateful!!!

it aint worth gettin a 1.1 fessie engine rebuilt IMHO cus there is never gonna be alot of power there , my choice would be to just buy either a bigger engine off here from someone and drop it in, if the body is in good nick , or buy a banger of an xr2i 8v , cus there alittle bit more insurance friendly . unlike a FRST which u might as well just bend over!!! :D

choices choices choices!

if i get my re-condition it'll get re-bored to a 1.3 but will still be classed as a 1.1 on my insurance.

but if i buy an engine off someone it may solve teh problem but with it being a 2nd hand engie the prob may come back very shortly!!!

or [ERRR] i just sell on an keep lookin for another mota???

i had a similar problem and phoned a few scrappys and got a 1.3 hcs with a 5 speed box for £200

then i got a mate of mine to fit it for under £200.

the problem is with insurance companies as you will have to go for one that does modified cars. i went with adrian flux. i rang round loads and they said they wouldnt quote me cause it had a different engine to the standard one

i reckon if you can afford it go for the xr2i or wait till you can if you engine will last that long.

i can tell you though, after all the hassle of going from 1.1 to 1.3 it might not sound a great difference but i reckon it is and i dont regret it a bit :D
