Engine Swap

Postby Reece on Fri Dec 21, 2007 5:35 pm

Lo there people, Just a quick one, im building a banger for my local banger racing track, and its a 1.1 single point injection ford fiesta, and ive started stripping wires out with me dad, but now the engine doesnt want to run, and we have no idea what we've cut, we've got a couple of wires we can see if it makes it work but if not were a bit stuck

so....i was wondering is there another engine from a later fiesta that we could swap straight in, which runs on a carb, dizzy and coil, maybe something a little bigger, 1.3 perhaps, as the engine needs to be a 1.4 or under.

cheers for the help lads

1.3i pushrod will fit right in useing the same loom as the 1.1i. You sad that engine can be 1.4 max, but you can mod ur engine to give a more punch?

You can't do anything to a HCS engine to make it go any faster! The 1.4 is a CVH engine and the pre-93 ones did run on a carb but probably won't go straight in without some wiring loom adjustments but don't quote me on that. Are the wires you've cut/stripped on the engine itself or wires that go into the car? If the latter you're pretty much stuck even with a different engine. If it is the engine wires then you could just get another engine loom from a scrappy for pence but my opinion is if you've been chopping wires then the problem could be bigger than dead engine, meaning you'd have to go hunting around for broken circuits.

A 1.1 isn't going to win many races though I'm afraid, unless it's on a lawnmower.

And why is that, it cant be that bad engine? Im sure you can make it faster and more powerfull, but that might need so much time, hard work, money to spend it on and thats why its not reasonble.

In here finland i have seen 1.1i whit turbo pushing out 107hp at wheels. But topic starter might not fit a turbo on it.

the 1.6 escort CVH engine from late mk4/ early mk5 on a carb runs on exactly the same setup (and same wiring as my 1.6cvh carb ran on 1.1HCS stuff for 18 months fine!) as the 1.1 carbs do so i see no reason why a 1.4 on a carb (not CFi single point injection crap) couldnt be run off the same wiring or setup as the 1.6 edis module etc, be better than having a coil and distributor!

The reason im asking if there was anything that would swap straight in, that runs on a carb dizzy and coil, is that effectively you could run the car on a few wires, which in banger racing means few problems, as the car is going to be smashed up i dont want to spend mega bucks on it, and there a strict no modding rule, the engine is meant to be stock or an engine that was fitted to earlier models or later models.

and when we were cutting the wires it was inside the car that we actually cut something, but we cant remeber whether it was something from the PATs sytem or by the fuse box.

so thats why i was just wondering what carbed engine from any fiesta would swap straight in, any one know?
