Postby chicken83 on Thu May 16, 2002 9:42 am

I have a k-reg 1.1lx, i want to tget a new engine put in but everywhere i go tells me different things about what engine i actually can change it to, and infact if it can be done at all. i know it can be done, but what size engines will fit, and what sort of work is involved???

1.25,1.3,1.4,1.6,1.7,1.8,2.0,2.5,2.9

take your pick :D , anything is possible if u have the ££, but remember that u need it to be able to run with a cat unless u can prove the age of the engine..

1300 ohv straight swap but you`ll need an ecu to match, don`t matter if u have decatted or not the car will still have to pass a cat emmision test, so the car must be able to run with one even if u just stick it on for one day!!

Yours will be the HCS....think theres also a 1.3 HCS (correct me if im wrong...probably am! ) so i guess that one would pretty much drop straight in. Other than that, the next easiest would be a CVH as many of the parts are quite similar.
The next option is by far the most expensive though and that would be a Zetec. Either a 1.6Si or 1.8 RS from a Fiesta, or you could go the whole hog and go 2.0 from a Mondeo! :D
It really depends on the reasons you want a new engine. If its just for a little extra power (which from your comments I assume is the case?) then go small (1.3, 1.4 which will be easier to do anyway).
If you want loads of power and loads of BHP...go for something bigger but much more expensive!

search scrappys etc. i just went through the yellow pages asking if any1 had one, there loads of em around cus 1300 HCS came in the mk4 escorts which there are tons of. they are identical.

cus urs is k u must have a CFI which i think is crap, u should either have carb or injection, and ford made these funny things which are supposed 2 be injection but aint, so u could go for a pre 92 engine which would be a carb.

1100 and 1300's are identical looking apart from the bore sizes are slightly bigger etc etc, very easy to fit.

a 1300hcs is your best bet for the budget you have. they're easy to fit but i think that little ecu module is different on the 1.1, all other parts are the same though, a reconditioned 1.3 would set you back a pretty penny, or you could get a low milage one from a scrapper and replace the important parts like camshaft, followers and piston rings. i think the 1.1 if im not mistaken is a carb engine anyways, the manifold would fit straight on so all you would have to do is jet the carb for the 1.3
