Engine Tuning (1.8 16v)

Postby Poom on Wed Jun 25, 2003 10:28 pm

I have now sourced a 2i 16v engine and I just wondered before I put this in what I can do to tune it!

I will be changing fuel and oil filter, putting high quality oil in etc and just wondered what sort of cams, throttle bodies, air filters there were for this and what people had tried?

Thanks
Poom

2.0 Mondeo Throttle Body, Cams & ECU, should see you producing RS1800 Power (somewhere around 130bhp)

You'll need aftermarket Cams as you can't use secondhand cams not a good idea. A set or piper or kent cams made from blanks would be perfect

sourcing the rs1800 spec bits is a good way to get 130 quite cheaply,

but first i would go for a decent filter and zorst, ive got a piperx indcution kit and a full scorprion system on my 2i and its reacted well and pulls a lot better :D

get a nice set of cams an air filter and maybe polish and port the head mate before the engine goes in. But first give the engine a good clean and make sure it sweet and that u will get no headaches when working with it good luck with it mate!!

basically some cam firms re-profile old cams rather than starting from a blank this is not always a good way to profile a cam. Both Kent and piper start with a blank to create the profiles for the zetec cams.

Some of you know i have been researching just this topic for a long time!

Just fit a good exhaust, K&N PANEL filter and 2.0 throttle body. you will notice such a difference. The car will be so drivable! :D

You can go the TB, Cams, ECU route but it is costly.

Also, dont just go plugging in a rs1800 ecu. it will make the car WORSE!! it needs the cams and tb to make the most of it all

cheers
