engine work to a zetec
10 posts • Page 1 of 1
I have just come upon a bit of money, so was looking to some work to my engine. I was toying with the idea of an engine transplant, but spoke to some insurance comps, and am now reconsidering.
The engine I have is a 1.25 16v zetec, and think I am going to tune this instead. I already have a pipercross induction kit and a janspeed cat-back exhaust. I realise it's a small engine and power gains would be limited, but am willing to spend the money on it.
I know cams exist, but am not too sure on them as they have had very mixed reviews on the zetec se engine. So, what work should I have done?? Is there anywhere such as powerflow that I can get a manifold and cat-replacement pipes? What throttle bodies will go on the engine? Is it worth boring it??
Or is it just worth saving my dosh for my beloved puma engine..mmmmm
Any opinions appreciated.

A 2 litre zetec, mmmmmm an appealing prospect. To fit it and get it all set up, would cost a bit, and insurance would be sky high..
Bearing in mind if I tune my zetec se to 130 bhp or so, my insurance would probably be a little over 1200 F/C. I doubt I could get anywhere NEAR that with a 2litre under the bonnet?
2.0.litre. mmmmmmm

No chance you'll EVER get your 1.25 to 130 bhp mate I'm afraid
Well not unless you strap a T9 or summat to it, reckon you may have a bit of lag though

been done buddy. Admittedly it did have 25bhp NOS, but 133bhp was the DYNO. Speak to Craig at Blade street mods. Anyway, the 1.25 is a stronger block than the uno turbo and starlet turbo and I've heard (yes only heard) of them pushing big hp (150+). I think it can be done, but am open to opinions.

my cousins race in the ford credit fiesta championship thingy. Before they switched to Zetec-S's they ran 1400 se's on T2 management which have 140 from the standard engine!

The 1.25 is Yamaha based isn't it?
You can have those rev to around 9,000 and you can indeed see some silly power from them.
I guess you'd be looking at a steel bottom end such as crank, pistons and rods to make it will rev like a motorbike.
Go for it
