Escort GTi :)
Its been a while for me to get her on the road. But here she is:
(she does have her minor problems but im in the middle of it )
Those eagle eyed viewers may notice there's tape holding the window up, its pink in places, cracked rear bumper and generally needs a few hours cleaning on a nice day
Good points:
Lovely strong engine only mods are the K&N, half leather gti seats are comfy yet supporting and its a red 3 door GTi which i always wanted
Managed a 8.9 second 0-60mph (passenger timed) understanding thats inaccurate but cant be a million miles away.
Plans:
Upgrade the handling, replace rear bumper (which i only now just remember that i should have picked up from work last night!), Replace boot or mend the holes, maybe a little more power, but the MPG is poor at the moment so shall see about that.

Re: Escort GTi :)
Well, time for an update me thinks dont get much time to come on here and nor have i done alot to the car since.
Apart from spraying the rocker cover up. having trouble with starting. The exhaust (it turned out) was blocked and now my back box has blow its self apart (split down the seam) as well as being very noisey, crap on petrol its smoking quite a bit, i thought might have been exhaust seems how theres now not much of the silencer left lol. I think its burnt alot of oil, so first thing in the morning is to check that!!
Other than that. New plans have been made
Picking myself up another escort gti in pepper red. 3 door, with stainless steel exhaust, 35mm (approx) lowering springs, nearly new cd player, mint interior, all body panels i need are in good condition and that. high mileage though 114k, and i dont feel 100% about its previous life and how its been treated. so will be broken for parts to save this one. With exhaust and springs swaped over
Also got a 2.0 zetec waiting for me in jonyb4's garage. which the new escort's gearbox and bits i need for conversion will used and built up ready to slot into the red one
And 16 inch mondeo cossie style wheels waiting to be picked up
Since then its had a little clean up and exhaust heatshield is black and has the pumas suspension top covers
Watch this space for something to actually happen soon
God help me make it to fiesta in the park though!

Re: Escort GTi :)
ooh i never seen this
yea baby my car gets a shout out
bang her on some -35mm and she'll go round the bends much more eagerly, and with a new exhaust that aint blown to pieces some power will be back, and then after fitp you'll get a nice hike in power with that 2.0 sat in the garage, we'll modify the focus inlet to fit it too
you forgot to mention you've fitted the 280mm brakes
btw 114k isnt high mileage, 150 yea, but not 114

Re: Escort GTi :)
Little update!
Minor set backs, meaning she wont make the stand in FITP but I am still coming!
1: no idle. turned out to be a loose vacuum pipe on back of the intake.
2. no power. turned out to be a blocked exhaust, which "exploded" ( i assume it had filled with unburnt petrol while running rough)
3. Alot of smoke out of exhaust. Turned out to be burning oil.
4: Discovered piston rings have given up the go. Hense the burning of oil
What ive been up to:
Bought another car, as spares for mine. Its in a fairly good condition and will sort mine right out. Its a pepper red 3 door gti, 114k, exhaust, lowered, 16" mondeo alloys. £250
Done this month/To do!
Stainless Steel cat back exhaust. DONE
Boot swap. DONE
Rear bumper swap.
Drivers seat swap.
Steering wheel swap.
Little accessories and non important bits like a drivers grab handle and dual horns.
Collect 16" mondeo cossie style wheels from devon!
Spray 2 sets of 16"s and a set of 15"s ready to sell 2 sets on.
And the biggie!
Engine and gearbox swap!
The current plan is use the 1.8 from the other car from a while, at least until I can afford to buy a decent looking 2.0 zetec and give it a good major service while out of the car, so new clutch, gaskets, belts, water pump, lick of paint and drop her in.
The risky option is, spend £150 for a bare 2.0 zetec, with just the ECU, no proof of mileage, no history, no idea, what age, where its been or anything about it. and spend money fitting that one.
I think i'll wait

Re: Escort GTi :)
So did I
Hopefully will make ford fair with new engine in. The brown ones engine will be in for a while, while I save up a little and buy a better engine and have money to rebuild some stuff on it.
Been looking at the Burton power catalogue. And noticed that they sell a pre engine heater. So it doesnt wear as much on start up. Thinking about getting one a oil cooler aswell, the problems ive had with engines and oil issues, quite tempted.
