Re: Escort Surf bus
I like them in red, but a clean white car always look good.
and Jony, it was between that board, or a lowering spring! but i thought some pikey would nick the spring!!
Anyways, been shopping at Tims tonite and got these:
Clock
GTI speedo
Ghia (i think) light
And some rear spats i am going to extend to fit the bus bumper

Re: Escort Surf bus
Well, up to now ive got the light fitted. I started on the clocks but got mad aftre cutting my hands to s**t rags trying to get the speedo drive out! I think i'm gonna have to take it out the gearbox end to give me enough room to pull the clocks out.
Also had second thoughts on the spats, they just dont seem to go with the mk5 sideskirts
So i repainted the old spats and put them back on.

iw as thinking earlier, youd want at least 600 for this, but to me id rather getr some shoddy TD for under 500 quid
not paying too much on a run around surely!

Re: Escort Surf bus
I cant bring myself to sell it, i love it too much!!. It doesn't really owe me anything either.
If i were to sell it id only get between 6-700 probably on a good day
I have been thiking about selling it and looking at FRST's recently but its too many projects if i do, and id still probably want a daily
And the misses wants some new s**t for the house too

Re: Escort Surf bus
Thing is jony, with the white mk1 i couldnt really care if i damage it round a track or get dings in it and i want a car which i can kick its balls in and not really care. Plus i dont need to get rid of any, just running out of room
With the bus as a daily its the same, im not toooo bothered if it gets stonechipped etc, but when i had my old RS i hated getting little everyday marks on it.
But i know if i did get a FRST i would want to use it as a daily.
Decisions decisions

Re: Escort Surf bus
Well arent i a dick. i thought the indicators would shine through orangeish. But they are just red.
So now the plan is to remove the reverse light wiring, move the indicator wires to them and put some orange bulbs in the reverse light bulbs place.
That should do the trick

FYI, green bulbs behind a red filter will shine orange little trick i learnt when playing with lights, might be worth either buying a pair new, or getting some lacquer on clear bulbs

Re: Escort Surf bus
cheers man, i do like a good estate
Well, after threatening to get rid last week, its got all moody at me!
The headgasket started to weep into one of the bores overnight and making it start up on 3 cylinders for a couple of seconds and then clear.
But there was no change in running temps, the heaters will still hot and it didnt white smoke at all
Anyways, it started to pressurise up and then i noticed a pool of water underneath it in the work car park in the waterpump region, and sure enough, it popped the waterpump
So yesterday:
And then had an hour on it tonite and got it all built up apart from the waterpump pulley, exhaust heatsheild, aux belt PAS resevoir and header tank
Its had:
head gasket
head bolts
water pump
cambelt
oil and filter
new plugs
Anyways, i struck it up just to check it went and ran on four etc and its sweet as a nut
And now its looking like this:

good stuff mate, i now know what that picture you text me looks like

headgaskets are actually a pleasure to do (if you have the knowledge and time, and money)

Its done 141k so and the cambelt needed doing as thats done 60k so its not all a waste
All in all the bits cost me £80.23p
But theyre not a pleasure to do, its work that needs to be done! I'd rather be cleaning it
