Exhaust bore size
Hi guys,
thinking about doing a conversion.
can you tell me what the standard exhaust bore size is on a fiesta rst?
ALso what does everyone think about increasing that? I've been told if you lose too much back pressure you damage your turbo, so was wondering what anyone advises.
Is 2inch too small? if so, what should i go for? 3 inch strikes me as too big.
cheers

Hello.....
I have tried a few exhaust systems over the years of owning my FRST (since 1997!) ....... and i have come to the conclusion that the "lack of back pressure" worries are nonsense ...... well, to me anyway ....
I have gone from std system to Powerflow (yuck!!) then to Mongoose .... the bore varies from 2" upto 3"... maybe 2.5" for the Mongoose and my wee T2 is still spinning after 145k+ miles! I have had no problems with increasing the bore size ... infact it helps! as the less restriction the better and faster the exhaust gases can escape. Anyway, your very restricted by the turbo itself .... its only a wee T2 and only shifts so much gases. It needs all the help it can get

woulnt go to big with the pipe bore size, as u say damage can be done to the turbo, the oil seals can collapse leading to poor lubrication and excess where in the turbo. with only a lil t2 turbo are you really going to need to get rid of loads of gas nyway? If your going to mod the engine to produce more boost and pressure look at bigger pipe bores then, as chances are you will be changing to a different turbo nyway.

thanks to those who have replied...
does 2.5 inch sound like a sensible size? or would i be better going for bigger or smaller??? i'm doing a conversion, and i've currently got a 2 inch pipe from the cat back, which goes into a transverse mounted rear box with 2 2inch exits, into ovals....
i was thinking bout getting a bigger bored system from the cat to the box, but keeping the back set-up as it is.
Opinion with numbers would be very much appreciated.
