Exhaust silencer

Posted this in the technical section and got no reply but wondered whether it is illegal not to have a silencer on a standard backbox? Can it do any damage to the car etc.?

No i dont think it will do damage to the car, but it will give the worst fartyist sound going, and belive me it is extremely lowd.
