External waste gate what's good and bad about them???
Hi looking for some advice building a zetec turbo engine to around 300hp . The exhaust manifould I'm using has the facility for external waste gate I'm wondering if its worth fitting one or not. I know what they are and what they do but I don't really see any advantages other than you can run a screamer pipe? as opposed to the traditional actuator method of boost control.
Wondering if people can give me some good or bad reasons to fit an external waste gate?
Thanks
Russ

From what I remember when researching it a while back:
- Improved/less turbulent exhaust flow next to turbo as you can plumb the return back in further away, or run a screamer pipe Smoother exhaust flow also means smoother boost curve.
- Allows you to fit any size you like so you can reduce any boost creep
But no massive benefit unless seeking massive power tbh.

So realistically for my spec not much? Lol I like cars being loud but I think a screamer pipe is just asking for trouble on the road
I could fit a electronic boost controller there supposed to control the boost better than an actuator alone are they not ?
Just weighing up my options for boost control tbh want to make sure iv covered most/every part of the conversion before mapping time
Thanks
