FAO Anyone with an RST replica project - insurance.
Getting to the point now deciding whether or not i go ahead with my project due to the main concern - INSURANCE Premiums are set to rise due to NU's 40% increase. First question - anyone my age actually had thier premium increased because of this? Even after 1 years NCB being racked up?
Im 19, with one years NCB and am looking to fit an FRST lump into my 1.1 Fiesta along with all the other neccesary ancilliaries - reason being the shell is mint.
However what im wanting to know is how much more you've had to pay to insure your car as a 1.1 base shell (or likewise) with an RST engine and gearbox. Insurance companys don't like the idea of someone doing the conversions and prefer to quote cheaper for genuine RST's.
Any advice/personal expericnes would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.

I phoned up to insure my rs Which was originaly a XR2i.
When i gave the plate reg they said it was an XR2i an would phone me back in 10min's.
I said it had had a rs turbo engine fitted, they asked if i had a garage report on the engine change of which i have.
So they said they will have to phone me back the next day.
It was about an extra £170 for the engine change.
Best thing to do is phone your insurance and explain what your plan's are and ask how much it would affect your premium.

An extra 170 sounds very reasonable - cheers for the reply
But whats a garage report exactly? Would i be able to get one if me and some mates did the conversion?

If you and your mate's do the conversion, take it to a garage so they can check it out.Just to make sure you haven't missed anything.
Then they will right a report out for you stateing that the engine is has been fitted correctly and is safe.
Some people fit engine's and dont do it right, which can cause electrical prob's maybe fire's.
If you have a fire with a converted engine which is not been properly fitted you wont beable to clame on f/t on you policey.
As if you do they will come check out car see its not the original engine and your insurance will be void.
Like when you get a fix it note from police and you have to get a garage stamp to say its been done.
