FAO Zetec People- Re: Engines Numbers

Postby StreetDragster on Tue Sep 07, 2004 8:08 am

Hi All,

I'm trying to change the details on my cars V5 to reflect the new engine (Zetec) being fitted and i'm a bit stumped when it comes to engine numbers. According to the Haynes manual, its on the front of the cylinder head, above exhaust port four, near the thermostat housing. Could some kind Zetec engined fiesta owner go and have a look at either their engine block or their VIN plate and tell me if their engine number is in the same format as mine, please don't post your actual engine number!
The reason i ask is my engine number has a fair amount of letters in it and i'm just trying to check i have the right number

Mines- ##A#AAA (As In Number, Number, Letter, Number, Letter, Letter, Letter)

Thanks

Matt

Just for anyone reading this who wanted to know the outcome.
The number was exactly where Graham said, i had to rub the rust/paint back to find it. The number was of the format

AA##### (As In Letter, Letter, Number, Number, Number, Number, Number)

Thanks

Graham, mine has the number on the coilpack end of the head. D'you know if there's a reason they did that?

The engine number may well be in a different place, depending on the model of Zetec engine. Numbers are always on the engine block itself though, not on the head or manifold, or on any other part of the engine that can be unbolted.

Now that's weird... hmm. I'm positive there's nothing on the block itself y'see (and no signs of it being ground off afaik).
