FAQ? Mk4/5 Fiesta Bits onto Mk3.. Ariel, Mirrors, Wipers etc

Postby Max M4X WW on Sun Oct 10, 2004 10:39 pm

Hi,

A very quick and simple FAQ here. All about putting bits from newer fiestas and other fords onto Mk3/3.5's.

Im sure i will forget things, So please reply with other mods!

Mirrors..

If you have a Mk3, You will no-doubt want to replace your bus mirrors with something bit better looking. For people who dont like horrible max power looking M3 mirrors etc, Read on..

Mk4/5 Mirrors will fit, But leave a bit of a gap as the mirror bases are different shapes..

Image

You could fill these gaps with filler or something, Or get Mk3.5 mirrors which may require some 'modification' to the doors like this.. (depending if your mk3 is a late one, or mk3.25!)

Image

Mk3.5 mirrors fitted..

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mk5 Ariel.. (Some late Mk4's also have them and all other late fords after '97 ish!)

Easy, Pop out interior light. Undo Torx bolt. Remove ariel, Clean off grot if you can be arsed and t-cut or whatever, Re-fit new ariel..

Image

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mk4/5 Rear Wiper.. (Ka one is also used sometimes, Fits the same)

Easy, Get a wiper from Mk4/5 Fiesta or Ka, Pop the cap up on the rear, Undo bolt. Remove and fit new wiper in reverse of removing old one!

Mk4/5 Wiper..

Ka Wiper..

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bumpers..

Mk4/5 Rear bumpers fit with minimal trimming AFAIK along the top edge. Exhausts may need re-positioning and tow-eyes removing. These include Standard Mk4/5 and Mk5 Zetec-S rears.

Front bumpers are another story, And will NOT fit. They leave huge gaps around the headlights.

The wonderfull pic above of AndyBlackFRST's car also shows a Mk4 rear bumper with MS-Design lower skirt thing.

This is a Mk5 Zetec S bumper on a Mk3, With colour-coded strip bit..

Image

All Mk4/5 Bumpers are best used with a smooth boot, Unless you want two numberplate spaces or want to remove the recess from the new bumper!

Thanks, Max

Speaking from Experience as I fitted all these bits to my Fiesta with no problems:

As Max mentioned the Ford Ariel 96 onwards is a real cheap and simple mod that enhances the car. Never fitted the rear wiper arm as I didn't have one nor could be bothered fitting one.

You can use MK4/MK5/Puma/MK6 Escort mirrors and swap the base plates so that they fit properly. Mirror glass on these models is exactly the same as MK3.5

MK4/5 A and B pillars are a straight swap as are the rear doorcards on a 3dr. The plastic sill covers from a MK4/Mk5 are a straight swap.
MK4/5 Carpet goes straight in although its advisable to fit the the thick matting you'll find underneath if fitting a MK4/MK5 seats to save taking a stanley knife to the carpet. MK4/MK5 carpet allows fitment of the leather handbrake gaitor from these models.

MK4/5 Interiors bolt straight in, although front seats will only fit on MK3.5 models. Rear bench isn't a problem. Rear brackets for the parcel shelve are exactly the same whether they be MK3/3.5/4/5
Image

Front doorcards can be fitted from MK4/5 models but you will also need to fit the interior door handle and cable from the same model. You'll also need the MK4/5 plastic that covers where the wing mirrors bolt and need to fit a metal bracket thats found on the MK/MK5s to aid fitment of the doorcards

Gearnobs from later models will fit and the centre console can be fitted if you desire although the Black MK3.5 ones are better IMO. MK4/5 boot carpet fits. As does the floormats. Stainless Steel Sill covers from Black Special Edition fit to.

Steering wheels on MK3.5s can be swapped with those fitted to MK4/MK5/Puma/MK6 Escort, but only do this if you are competent and know what your doing as Airbags are dangerous if not removed and installed properly.

Puma/MK4/5 Fiesta and Escort MK6 dials fit but as for wiring them up best speak to Project

Rear beams from later models can be fitted as well as brakes, and wheels. Suspension fits if you can be bothered but why?

Side repeaters fit from a MK4/5 Fiesta and are indentical to those used on a MK3.5.

Badges, Side Moudlings and Decals can be used from MK4/5 but this will only look right on some Fiestas and not on others. The MK4 Fiesta Badge looks awful don't do it :x and keep things subtle.

And with a bit of effort:
Rear bumpers fit with a little trimming as do Zetec S skirts, MK4/5/Puma Dash but I wouldn't recommend although it looks good and have my reasons. I think the Front Screen will fit from a MK4/5 although you'd need it fitted professionally as its bonded in.
Headlinging and Interior lights from a MK4/5 fit with a little bit of trimming.

Think I've covered almost everything :D

Good info chaps. How do the Mk4/5 A and B pillars and plastic sill covers differ looks-wise from the Mk3 items?

Ghost - they will fit see pic above that B Pillars from a MK5 Fiesta Black :D and I had no problems with the A pillars either :D

Al - sill covers are the same as on MK3.5s but only really worth fitting to so that all your plastic trim matches up.

Rear Doorcards are no hassle at all they are a straight swap.

Front Door cards do need the brackets, as well as MK4/5 door handles and the cable (MK3 cable is about an inch to short).

Try a late base model MK5 Fiesta (1.3 Finesse, Flight, Fun, 1.8D, Van etc) for plain doorcards.

You can keep your A and B pillars but you'll need the MK4/5 sails.

The cloth on the doorcards is plain grey with no pattern to it.

Ah not too bad then, will pop into my local ford and check. Didnt realise you had to mod anything to fit 3.5 mirrors. Waiting for my car to be painted again before I fit them.

Anyone found a link on a guide on how to install mk3.5-> mk5 seats in a mk3? Must be a way? Subframe swap or something?

You can't do fit MK5 seats in a MK3 Liebo as the subframes and seat frame are all one piece and can't be separated.

All my Fiesta's are / were MK3.5s which share the same floorpan as the later MK4/5 Fiestas hence the fact that the MK5 seats bolted straight in.
