FAQ - Tuning the 1.1 & 1.3 Engines..

Postby Max M4X WW on Fri Oct 29, 2004 7:06 pm

DONT!!

Do NOT tune your 1.1 & 1.3 Engines. Its a waste of money.

By all means buy a Backbox as the standard ones do look crap and Drill your airbox or if your rich buy a K&N or Green Airfilter. For that nice noise.

I drilled 12x10mm holes around the back of my airbox on the edge. I think this gives the best noise that you can get from the engine and i have experimented a lot. Also remove the big spaceship pipe and hot air shelid from the exhaust manifold.

For a Green filter, You will need part #P296..
http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/images/fi ... T-P296.gif

For a K&N, You will need to read this post..
http://www.fiestaturbo.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=62698

Note: The Green kit supplies two mini filters for the oil breather and vac hose. The K&N does not.

Here is my engine with drilled airbox, warm air feed and heatshield and long 'pipe' removed with piper-x oil breather..

Image

You can see a couple of the holes in my airbox here..

Rear exhaust boxes will need to be of the correct smaller bore size than the sport models. Allthough reducers can be made or bought for exhausts meant for the sports model fiestas including the fitment of Standard/OE Si16v or XR2i exhaust's.

Adjusting your tappets is also a good idea, See your Haynes manual!

Probably a good idea to mention that removing the cold air feed and drilling airbox holes might cause problems when its really cold, you might get carb icing and s**t running in general.

Well, This is the one that i thinks correct..

http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/green/ind ... artNo=P296

P296, £93.52

Will make a very small difference, if at all to power and you probably wont notice anything.

Why do you want one?

Not sure if anyone will know this but will carbs from say a 1.3 HCS fit a 1.1 HCS and if so would it make any difference

Or even a 1.3 EFi inlet manifold,

can't imagine they would but its gotta be worth asking :)

Im not sure if the 1.1 and 1.1 Carbs/CFi units are the same. As with the manifolds.

1.3 EFi inlet should fit on i suppose.

DONT JUST REMOVE THE WARM AIR FEED LOL LOL LOL

If you do, all the air you're gettign in wil be coming from just above the exhaust!!! If you're gonna do that you'll have to get some piping to run from the front of the car to the air box...

ive a green induction kit on my fez, deffo helps a bit, a lot more pull thru the gears, not that theres a lot there anyway... sounds class too, need something to drown out the tappets

btw my induction kit is for sale, best offer +P+P gets it. ill give it a good clean for whoever takes it :D ill throw in an authentic green induction duct too, a big wide one, nut sure how wide but i run it from the air filter to the gap between the headlight and the grill on the passenger side, seems to work well.

I got that green filters bolt on kit and i love the noise it makes when you toke it. In terms of power gains there is hardly any but id still say buy it. Im not saying the "drilling in your airbox" idea is crap as ive never tried it.

Ive also got some blue spark leads made by splitfire. They cost £45 and i think i got themm from http://www.potn.com/p1604015.htm

I think they are the right ones but search for others first. If i can be bothered ill get some pics up of the engine bay.

Cheers,

James.
