Few problems 'new to site'

Postby jamezz666 on Wed Dec 24, 2014 2:19 pm

Hello guys and girls, new to the site just got an 89 xr2i 'Dan xr2i' old fezzy. it's the cvh efi engine, now i found that it constantly ticks over high, cleaned the idc valve and still the same, so i gather im in need of a new one, if i unplug it it ticks over fine. now when you rev the car straight away it goes to die but then picks up?? it pulls well but as soon as your foot comes off the accelerator and back on in goes to die and the the revs go up. also the rev gauge doesn't work?
any help appreciated.

James

Can't you just adjust the throttle cable position so that it idles lower?

No because with the idle control valve plugged in it wont drop below 2000rpm, so adjustment of the cable wont do nout but cheers anyway

After re-reading, I would definitely try a new ISCV as you'd expect to see some change after cleaning it out one way or another.

Try cleaning your breather pot aswell. Check what type ISCV you have, if it's a webber then I recall this being a fairly common fault.
