few zt questions

Postby ludaprix on Thu Apr 05, 2007 8:52 pm

hiya guys im getting all my bits together for a zt conversion on a 2litre and i have a couple questions first.

my aim is at least 300bhp and this is what im hoping to achieve it with:

2.1 litre bottom end (calibra pistons, modified conrods)
t3 or t34
erst exhaust manifold
efi inlet
front mount intercooler
walbro fuel pump
fuel pressure regulator
uprated injectors
3'' exhaust

the questions i have is firstly, with that spec is my target achievable?

should i go for a t3 or t34?what exhaust housing should i use?

would i need an uprated oil pump?

what injectors can i use?i cant be asked to source out jap ones, is there any other fuel rails with injectors i can go for without modding?

will this run with frst engine management?

my budget is 1.8k tops!i will be getting the bottom end very soon (new for around 400) just need the arp bolts and i have a spare 2litre zetec here also

any help would be great

thanks

personally i'd run the t34 more power
and consider water injection
or at least oil injectors to cool the pistons

Have you considered using the fuel rail of the nissan 180 sx as this is the same top feed injectors and they have a 750 c injectors

then i's get a good gear box built and a ap paddel clutch

you will need a new ecu as the 1.8 wont' be injected enough fuel for turbo purposes and i'd get a jam sport inlet manifold as will aid airflow
2.1 Went BANGGGGG now a Ghia 1800

You will want a T34 for this, unless it's very short use and you don't want 10,000 miles from the turbo.

I wouldn't touch a walbro pump - get a decent Bosch pump (003 or 023).

You dont need to change your fuel pressure regulator.

You will need some bigger injectors. I advise against using the Nissan ones as the Ford o-rings don't fit properly on them potentially causing problems in the future. I do have a set of 400cc injectors for sale (as per turbo.me.uk) if you're after any (pure coincidence!).

You can run FRST management, as long as you get it mapped. It'll have to be OFAB though as you'll need to run around 1.4 bar of boost on a T34 to get 300bhp.

However, you have absolutely zero chance of doing this for £1.8k. More like £5k. If you're lucky.

your spec would do it but the standard conrods are the weak link, theyre not so grat at that sort of power level, they may last a while but they may not, big gamble when youre doing an engine rebuild.

i'd say go for a cossie t3 or t34 and the 300bhp will be achievable on ofab management with a decent bit of boost.

here's a few pics of the engine im building, engines just about done now, but tubular exhaust manifold will be finished in a week or two

the oil return is in the block behind where the crank position sensor goes, its black so is a little hard to spot.
