Fibre glassing

Postby Drewman on Mon Mar 09, 2009 4:51 pm

Hello everyone,
Is it easy to fibreglass? I don't know anything about it but I would like to try to make some tweeter enclosures for a mk3 fiesta. I have no idea where to mount them so figured I could try and make some sort of enclosure for the A pillar or just above the mirror adjustment lever bit.

Anyone know of anywhere I can buy something like this or alternatives for mounting the tweeters?

If not, some info on fibre glassing would be good!

Thanks

I've done plenty of speaker builds with fibr glass. The tricky bit is getting the shape you want. I generally start off with either the cup that the tweeter fits in to, or some MDF dohnuts, get some material like fleece and glue it in position to roughly the shape you want. put some resin on this and let it set. Then strengthen it with glass matting and more resin. At the end put a skim of body filler over it all and sand like a mofo until its perfect, and spray with a forgiving paint (there are lots of textured ones out there that hide poor work :) )

You can get all you need from halfords.

Can't find any tweeter build pics but I've found these:

Top :aviator:

I think I'll give it ago, I'll have a look in Halfords. How much stuff did you need for you little bits by the mirrors and pricing roughly?
