Fiesta 1.1 lx (7/2/14)
So I haven't really posted anything in the members gallery for a long time. Mainly because I haven't owned a Fiesta for a while. After I sold my Zetec S last year I bought a mk4 Golf GTI off Toby, which was nice to have more power and equipment. I flung it round a few racetracks, including a trip to Germany for the Nurburgring earlier this year Then a few months back I sold it on to Bakewell senior. Before selling the golf I bought a mk3 some of you may know.
Mr Bennett had owned it for ages, did all the modifications to it, and when it was up for sale managed to negotiate it being sold in the spec I wanted it in. So the cage, buckets and exhaust were removed. Original interior refitted and a deal was struck.
Quick spec for those that don't know the car
-2.0 zetec
-Cosworth brakes & biiiiiiiig brake servo
-xr2i roll bars and stuff
-Spax suspension
Since buying it ive done a few bits and bobs to it, nothing massive as it has virtually everything I want anyway, including a stereo that reminds me of my youth (makes me feel old saying that)
Only I don't have any tapes any more Need to get on ebay for some compilation tapes I think
Next thing was some sort of restraint as I still intend to use it for trackdays, I considered harness, but with the unsupportive 1.1 seats they didn't seem appropriate. I read loads of reviews and people rated the CG lock highly so I splashed out on one
And fitted
It keeps the seatbelt tought but still allows normal movement, fantastic bit of kit (you have to mount it in reverse to fit a mk3 seatbelt)
Few other bits ive done
New wiper arms, as the old ones weren't in a great state
New Ford steering UJ as the old one was 20 something years old and was seizing a bit
Got a replacement front bumper, not a genuine Ford one though unfortunately, it had been stored with something on it so the plastic was deformed, so didn't fit it in the end and put the old one back on
I have repainted the front bumper but don't have any decent pics of it since I did it. The only other bits ive done are getting some new Toyo T1-R's on it and did a few sessions at Castle Combe Action Day back in September, at which it performed brilliantly, much different characteristics to the golf so it took some getting used to
Only annoying issue currently is the exhaust blowing at the downpipe to centre section join, which I plan to sort sometime.
Thanks for looking

I recall seeing a white mk3 disappear in the rear view mirror ages ago, bit rusty, made a lot of noise, at a guess 100db.

Yeah they seem ok in the dry, no noticeable loss of traction really. In the wet, what ive sampled, they don't appear to be as good

Re: Fiesta 1.1 lx
Time for an update,
Did a trackday at Brands Hatch last month with lots of other South East men off here. Because it was in November it was nice and cheap, and the weather was good all day, so spend loads of time on the circuit. The fiesta performed well all day.
There was a photographer there all day, and we decided to buy his photos, bulk discount meant they were 80p each
So it was quicker than some 172's and various other things, there's a video which needs editing from the day which ill upload at some point.
The only issues highlighted from the day were ones I noticed today driving to the tip. The wishbones I think have had it, its making noises on bumpy roads and feels a bit wayward when accelerating. The exhaust is still rubbish but ill probably just buy a less rubbish Ashley exhaust and some decent hangers.
Plans for wishbones are already in motion, they are going off to smo developments for some modification. Ill also replace the track rod ends as they are a bit suspect.
Thanks for reading

Re: Fiesta 1.1 lx
So I've done a few bits and pieces in the last month, firstly the exhaust would never seal properly, so I bought another one, made by Ashley
Got it on the ramps to get the old one off
Needed these too
And a couple of these
Bit of unbolting, exhaust paste and some bolting and it was on
Sounds much much better now, should still be OK for sound check too hopefully
Then I wanted to replace the wishbone bushes, so bought some powerflex black series rear bushes, as these seem to wear out quickest
In the wishbones
And a rubbish picture of them fitted in the rain
Definitely improved the steering feel, a track day will be the best test of them though. Steering wheel is about 45 degrees out now though, so tracking next I guess.

Re: Fiesta 1.1 lx (7/2/14)
Haha thanks jess, and smo
So maybe I should talk more about plans etc for the fiesta, I want to continue polybushing whatever's left that hasn't been polybushed, which is the rear beam and its arbs, everything else has a polybush I think. Black series seem to be pretty awesome from what I've experienced and they aren't really any more than normal polybushes.
I may have to address some rust at some point, the n/s/r of the sill is a bit grotty, there's other spots around the car, but nothing particularly bad, so I have no urgency around dealing with them. Rather spend the money on more track time.
Aside from that, the next adventure I have booked in it is combe in April, then the intention is to take it to the nurburgring for a week. Before that is the MOT though, last year it had no advisories and its only done about 1500 miles since then but who knows. Also my circumstances may be due to change soon, in which case, as things stand at the moment, the fiesta may become my daily. That's something I'm keen not to let happen, but at least it will be at the end of winter
Bring on the summer

Re: Fiesta 1.1 lx (7/2/14)
Yes, some dry hot weather would be nice... Especially for track!
I don't think you'll have any troubles with the MOT on that
Rear beam bushes will be good, although I think Mr. B has a nice polybushed ZS beam for sale
I wonder how the lower arms would be with the smaller bushes also polybushed?

Yeah but is it worth swapping from a twin arb beam to a Zs beam?
You going to polybush front and rear on yours? I can't see the fronts making that much difference, but never know

Re: Fiesta 1.1 lx (7/2/14)
I've not done much recently, but a few things so I'll update this
The exhaust was hanging quite low, not low enough to catch on anything, but low enough to annoy me. So I got a slightly smaller size clamp, got the fiesta back on the ramps and gave it some adjustment
It now sits at an acceptable height. The other bits I've done were around the steering I mentioned a few months back, got some new track rod ends
Fitted them
Got the tracking done, steering wheel was still out, got it done again, still out, its a bit better now, will get it sorted properly when it has its MOT.
