1.6s is a carb engine which makes it mechanically injected. In actual fact it is the same engine that was in the Mk2 XR2. Ford had a number of these lying around at the launch of the MK3 and needed to use them up so they shipped them out as the 1.6s

Once the stock ran out the MK3 performance range began properly with the release of the fuel injected XR2i.

Other details are as follows

The engine is 90bhp with a top speed of 110mph and a 0-60 time of 9.2 tho mine defo does that faster.

The brakes are ventilated disc brakes at the front afaik and drums at the back.
No idea about the exhaust as mine is standard.

Being carb more power can be found easily enough starting with a simple bolt on K&N filter which will set you back about £55 brand new.

It also is supposed to have uprated suspension but you could have fooled me as I feel every bump in the road 10 fold more than any other car.

That should get you going. The more technical people can probably shed more light on your questions.

right,

the suspension and breaks are identical to those fitted to the xr2i!

the exhaust is different, but a full xr2i system can be fitted with the aid of an xr2i exhaust manifault! (and possably downpipe if the system is a down pipe back system!)

as said above, you can fit the bolt on filters to it very easily to free up bout 2/3 extra bhp then add the xr2i zorst sytem and ur laughng!! :)

also you can fit the carb and inlet manifault from an early mk2 xr2 (bigger second carb on it ;) ) couple this with the zorst and k&n and u will nearly be as fast as a 2i (if not faster!)

as it happens i have an xr2i zorst manifault and a nearly new downpipe! - still looks new) pm us if ur interested!

Also, the 1.6S was lighter than the XR2i. No central locking + loom, electric windows +loom, bodykit or those heavy bumpers.
I've just bought one as a run around and mine is even lighter than when new due to rust round the rear arches
