Re: Fiesta 2.0 lx project
I'll get r888's when the current tyres wear out, the fronts are quite low and the rears look bearly touched at the moment.
I take it you didn't notice the bumper
I don't know what to make of the coilovers as these are the first I've had. It's useful being able to adjust the dampening as the old suspension was hard on the rear but the car still rolled quite a lot. First impression is thre car handles a lot better, but I only had non-adjustable spax shocks and fiesta centre springs.

OK, cool... Will try and keep an eye out for you
And it's noisy, notchy and clunky
I know how to kill them
I think it'll last some 0-60s at Silverstone, but I daren't take it out on track.

I can't see them making it worse, but how much better I don't know.
Can have a front row seat for one if you want, I'm not bringing anyone with me.

Re: Fiesta 2.0 lx project
Ford fair was brilliant as usual with it's blisteringly hot weather, made the queuing just that little bit more of an experience
Only picture I took with Henry and Jamie waiting to do the 0-60 run.
Only did 2 runs of the 3 I bought. The first run I messed up trying to use launch control as the car rolled without the handbrake and got a 7.1. The second run I decided it was easier not to use and got a 6.8.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7MJ2KfIpBs
The car was going well on track overtaking some fairly powerful cars.

Tweeked the suspension a bit more and I think I've found the best settings for the tyres now. Just need to wait for these to wear down and I'll switch to r888s.

Nice to meet you, Mark Sorry I rambled a lot, I think I was worse than usual yesterday Too tired to think or talk properly!
Well done on your 0-60 time... I just wasn't quick enough on the day
And Henry, I didn't see your wave at the time, but I did indeed see it in the last video

Nice to meet you guys too, was good to put faces to the names. It's alright I wasn't much better, I could barely keep my eyes open towards the end What did you end up with? It must have been the heat affecting things as mine didn't seem to pull that well in 1st really after sitting still for so long.

Re: Fiesta 2.0 lx project
Been a long time for an update due to not much happening until recent.
Went to another great Castle Combe action day. Thankfully it stopped and dried out after the first session, I'm sure blade can vouch for me that it was mental in the wet
Vids as usual:
10:30 - part 1 - Track is still to drying out and it goes a bit sideways
10:30 - part 2
11:30 - part 1- Chasing an audio 1.8t and some old v8
11:30 - part 2
1:45 - Chasing a mk1/2 escort
My new exhaust turned up the thursday before and I didn't have a chance to fit it. A full tony law exhaust from a race prepared xr2i.
Old vs new:
I haven't driven it much since fitting but it sounds a pretty good

Re: Fiesta 2.0 lx project
It's been a long time without an update but it's been too cold.
Finally got round to sorting a few things out. Firstly my new exhaust kept rubbing on the s-brace so I spaced it out with washers as a quick fix, I finally got annoyed with it at a track at Brands last year and took off the brace. Just as a note I could definately feel the difference without the brace although it didn't handle that bad, just a bit less positive.
Machined some spacers to stop it touching.
Also this week got round with trying to make a strut brace/ harness bar by machining some circular mounts and getting some roll cage tube.
Just need to paint that up and fit it. I may put a plate on the arch side of the mounts to try and strengthen the area it mounts to as the stronger section of the arch metal is only covered by the top hole.

I've mentioned this before, but that isn't the right place to mount a rear strut brace - it should go between the shoulders.
I love this car, though. Any more pics of the Ghia?

Yeah I was concerned its a bit low, but if I wanted to used it as a harness bar id rather it was on the flat section of the arch. I may sort something else out if it doesn't do much.
Theres a few more pics of the ghia on pages 3+4 here mainly engine work though:

I've got my harness bar mounted a bit higher than that, should be at 20 degrees from the shoulders. Not sure about the rings, the metal there is strong enough anyway.

Alright thanks for the info, the rings are 5mm with the bar recessed about 4mm, welded inside and out so I should think that will be strong enough.
That album should be public now.

Very interesting, so did you use an Endura head in the end?
I remember years ago I had a Ka engine and quite a lot was different, especially the pistons.

Re: Fiesta 2.0 lx project
just had a good gander in the ghias album
i find it very interesting all that OHV tuning, in know its practicly worthless to tune, but its still a good thing to attempt, specially since its such a good strong and bulletproof engine
how did you find tuning the cfi 1.3?
have you ever considered a 1.6 kent from the mk1 xr2 to fit in a mk3 and tune? they start at about 86bhp

Re: Fiesta 2.0 lx project
I used the full endura engine. I originally had it running on the cfi system by making a spacer plate.
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v461/ ... G_0994.jpg
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v461/ ... G_1019.jpg
I had that running but it didn't make much more power, the cam was for efi so I don't think it was used to full potential.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v461/ ... _10332.jpg
On the lower line the spec was endura engine with piper ultimate cam, ported head and standard otherwise. which was 63bhp (and similar wheel torque). It was better with the good flowing intake system but was dissapointed with it with the potential it had, so then I decided to go to the full endura route.
I fitted all thats and there was an immediate improvment, transformed the car completely. I improved the inlet plenum design a bit further as it was badly designed and found a better flowing exhaust, and it made an improvement of about 20bhp just from exhaust and the fuel/intake system.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v461/ ... /graph.jpg
It was mapped after that which brough it up to 89bhp (78 wheel torque) total.
It just shows how much the cfi held it back. I don't know if it was down to the cam or just the cfi but as you say the engines have a few differences. The pistons are flat at the top whereas the oringal engine were dished on one valve and the head is redesigned for the efi with taller ports on the inlet side. I tried improving the flow of the cfi by port matching the inlet which helped, but I still think the manifold is a big restriction on it looking at the port size.
I'm going to get rid of the ghia when it's insurance runs out, may take the engine out if the old one has survived in the garage or sell it as is so all the good bits have been put on to the lx.
