Went combe at the weekend (thanks guys :) ) for the cars first time of real testing. With the ghia it always felt it could out do most things in the corners but was just lacking in power. Well this one now seems to have what it was lacking :o It was on the par with clio sports so I was on the attack most of the day and it needs a tyre rotation now

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdHapoTOwSI - session 1 - It's first time on track - people on the silver subaru estate owner's forum was ripping into him for this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7x-zuwV4BMA - session 2 - Fiesta turbo track session
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZVnCA26rsw - session 3 - Mainly clio sports in this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-MQKl6YgLs - session 4 - Porsche massacre (Seems it was a porsche session) - some idiot in a mini briefly tries it on aswell

It was a good start, but it needs that rear beam on to be really good, it looked like is rolls too much. It was also noted that it needs an lsd, wheelspinning out of every corner.

Really hope your coming to Ford Fair, you and smo would have a bit of competition with each other on the 0-60. White mk3's, 1.8 vs 2.0

Cheers. The rolling part or wheelspinning or both? Your car was the one that inspired me to build this originally so it'll be good to see them side by side.

Both! I've had a Zetec S rear beam for ages now and not gotten round to fit it yet :( And I really need an LSD!

Other stuff to do first though, so may be next year

Sorry misread you said both first time.

Done a bit more today. Decided to sort a few things out in one hit and picked up a full racing puma rear end. It now needs an uprated servo though as the pedal is pretty low.

Got the front spots on aswell but I don't think it suits it, so that will be coming off soon.

That rear disc setup looks nice behind them wheels :) Is the brake bias still OK?

I can't decide whether I want to fit discs when I do my beam or whether to just stick with drums...

looking good mate, im slightly jelous, but i could do with out potching with my servo lol

cant really see why the puma/zetec s beam is any better all i can see is a slightly larger triangle piece near the beam and hubs, if you follow

im after some bigger drums of all things

not sure what to gett hem off though, dont know if mondeo ones will fit?! :-?

It feels like theres more going to the rear as it doesn't feel like theres as much weight transfer to the front. I havn't properly drove it though as I'm still waiting for a handbrake cable. The main concern is the pedal is pretty low, issue being we both have lowest spec master cylinder.

And with the shell, it still has a few imperfections. Theres loads of minor rusty bit I'm not looking forward to sorting, especicially seeing it come back a few months after doing it :(

It is a lot stiffer compared to the mk3 beam which doesn't have as much triangulation. Also it has a larger bracing piece on the underside, and possibly thicker steel for the main section? It feels about the same strength as the mk3 with twin arb. It would be interesting to see what the difference is between normal the mk4/mk5 beam, as you say it looks similar.

I'd look at focus or puma drums for yours to match the stud pattern.

Update: Managed to get hold of the correct mondeo servo and spent most of today fitting it in. Thankfully it has now restored the brakes better than they were before.

Image

Also painted the front and rear bumpers black so it doesn't have the grey stained effect from before. Next up is to do the mirrors when I can be bothered to strip the doors down and do it.

Almost ready now to hit the ring on the 20th :)

I quite like the wheels. It shows the front brakes up really well although I'm not too bothered about how it looks.

There are quite a lot of things to adapt for the focus inlet.

-The fuel rail is different so fuel lines need to be changed
-Hose outlets need to be cut and blocked to clear the brake bar
-Silvertop throttle body fits but the inlet needs filling around where it mounts so i seals properly
-Vacuum pipe is a different size so this needs adapting

Then theres the inlet hoses which needs some sor of custom arangement, mine needs changing soon as it is touching and rubbing through loads of stuff.

doesnt really seem worth it to me, theres no gains between that and a HO, personally i think its acutally less power in it

id just use a escort 115s inlet instead, if its a cheaper one your after, that clears the cam cover

Not too sure about that. I thought most people with 2.0 engines with the HO manifold struggle to get the quoted mondeo power?

Sphinx :Great project :D

Thanks, it's a focus inlet which is why it fits. Its has the same port size as the mondeo inlet but has shorter runners, so it clears the brake bar with a few changes.

With just the focus inlet and a decat Marks fiesta is quicker than pretty much any other 2.0 ive seen.
