Thanks, I used you guide when figuring out which master to use :) And with the connection, the old cable wouldn't reach so I changed to the fiesta cap for now. I might extend if I do some more wiring at some point to make it look neater.

How is the bias with the rs2000 fronts and focus rears? It feels pretty much spot on with my setup now, without the rears it felt like there was too much weight transfer to the front but it now seems to brake nice and flat.

Not sure what is next to come, I think removing rust will be the next priority. I've also got an xr2i box to go in at some point and have been on the look out for a better exhaust.

Came back from the ring yesterday making a big impression. You don't realise how 3d the track is until standing next to it with the cambers and drops.

Image

It didn't start off too well. First day I was pushing the corners as I could see going pretty quick and made the mistake of trying to do 2.5 laps in a row. The tyres went off and the rear end let go suddenly spinning us 400 degrees, brushing a barrier and damaging the wheel in the process :o Could say I got really lucky with that.

Image

Apart form that the car went really well managing 125mph on one of the downhill sections. I had a passenger in the car who spotted the clock change exactly passing the bridge and again coincidentally at the gantry marking a 10 minute lap with a 70-50-30kph speed limited for half of a mile, so I am pretty pleased with that :aviator:

Quick vid:

A few mates I went with might have some more footage later.

Woo, definitely got lucky with that little spin!

Glad you enjoyed it though :D I really want to go sometime, but just not too sure I'd be happy taking mine all the way there :-?

Still jealous of how clean your shell is, even if it does have a little bit of rust :bonkers:

I get it, I get it

How many 0-60s are you intending on doing at ford fair? :P I'm gonna try my hardest

It's mental how such a place exists these days. We stayed at the "Hotel am der norschleife" I think its called, just next to the half point entrance.

A few pics found on the internet:

Next on the list:

Coilovers so I can get the suspension a bit stiffer if needed and adjust the height for larger ratio tyres.

That's it. I started getting a bit sick of that cafe when we ate there for lunch and dinner on some days, out of shear laziness  Did you go on that road with the 2 hairpin corners within about 20m of eachother? That was a brilliant piece of road :Q

A few more things have been done in preperation for ford fair.

I've finally replaced my leaky gearbox with a 16v xr2i one I modified with an escort s2 diff. Took me 10 hours one sunday, went to reverse out the garage and nothing :aaah:  So I spent another whole day taking it out, stripping it down and putting it back in again with reverse. That was not a happy day

It was well worth the effort though. Compared to the old gearbox first and second are longer (it will now do 60 in second compared to about 50), fifth is shorter, and the rest are squezed between them. It makes all the gears that are used on track a lot punchier with second more accessible, and it first gear is more useful in sprints.

I have also got around to welding up a proper decat. It should be a bit better than the hollow cat box which was producing resonance (old section cut out at the top).
Image

Another item crossed off the list is cleaning up the front end. Thankfully none of the rust produced holes so it was a straight clean up and spray.
Before:
Image
Rust chased and gone:
Image
After
Image

And todays job, fitting a catch tank for catching oil coming out of the breather.
Image

I also won a speed sensor from ebay so I will finally be putting that on assuming the speedo cable isn't different on a carb'd fiesta.

I have my first full track day next monday and my car in theory looks to be the slowest car on the list so that should go well  I'm going to be using it to set up the coilovers properly.

Oooh, oil catch tank looks a bit groovy. Need to resize that though, it's a bit off the page

And in reply to a post ages back, you'll definitely do my times easily enough I reckon :D

Photobucket are still resizing the pics I think

The catch tank was only cheap, £30 new on ebay but it seems good quality and does the job :)

Hopefully it will run good times on the 0-60. It does launch really good now with the lsd even on low grip surface :Q

In all seriousness, I was just wondering how close you were to the tunnel (which I'm still 56 miles from! ), but it's closer than half the places I usually end up driving to in Essex!

Went to the bedford trackday yesterday. It was a fairly eventfull day for my mate with regards to keys but I won't go in to that

I managed to find a pretty good setting for the coilovers if not a little on the safe side, but it turns in nicely. Going out in my mates car I realised the advantage of some proper track tyres though, they grip so well and the car had almost no understeer :o

Vid 4 - part 1 - Nothing really interesting happens but these are the quickest laps
Vid 4 - part 2 - A gear is missed so a cone gets it

The day showed the gearbox is a lot better for the track, the power is there after every gear change. Next up Ford Fair :Q
