Sheriff Burman :Excursion :Nice quick turnaround there. The red car sure is a contrast to the old white one!

I've been meaning to talk to you about your language, Nick.
Cheers, Mark. I know some won't like the orange indicators on that year, especially on a red car (hi, Max!), but I needed something, and I think it works.
Plans now:
New track rod ends, as we had to rob the old ones off the white one and they're pretty grotty (although still perfectly functional after what I believe to be 130K) - ordered and on way.
Fiesta Turbo rack - should be here tomorrow. I've fitted some new Delphi Fiesta Turbo arms, also.
Space the S brace as the exhaust is touching it.
Swap the steering wheel and instrument cluster from the white one - the MK3.5 plastic thing is horrendous and I need a rev counter.
Find another solution for the master cylinder and servo, or swap the Mondeo one into it - the standard one just isn't up to it... I should have remembered this from past experience!
Replace the nasty looking overflow and breather hoses.
Fit the air box temporarily until the throttle bodies go on.
Possibly swap the car looms - to get me home I used the red one's. This has PATS which I don't necessarily need, and I only have one key (plus the passenger side lock doesn't like that one and only key!). I'm sure there are ways around this, but I also need to make some changes to the current loom if I'm to use it long term; the coolant temp wire for the gauge needs routing back to the engine loom connector as the 1.1 loom has it directly from the car loom to the push on connector on the sensor whereas on the Zetec it is part of the engine loom, and also the radiator fan switch wiring needs extending.
Could also do with changing the window seals as they've perished a bit!
Other than that, I'm happy. Needs a good clean and tidy up, sort out some little grotty bits and then go about protecting it... I think I'll still get a good run out of this one though

I love the amber indicators - for the same reason I put amber side repeaters on the ST to replace the clear ones!

Great progress Si.
I love the ambers as well
Amazing how you can make a car look (and go) so much better with a few hours of hard work.

Yeah, really pleased with the general look; as soon as the back was on the rear beam and 14" steels, I knew it was going to work. To some degree I think it works better than on the white one, but I'm not sure why. Can't wait to give it a proper clean to see just how good it comes up!
Glad people are liking the ambers, makes me feel a little better that I made the right decision. I have something else to go on, too, but it might not look as good as it does in my head!

Do you lot want to come and do the opposite to my red Azura??

Looking at the photos of yours when you got it, for some reason I have the urge to just have it totally standard! Or possibly as it looks now.
As of the 11/03/14 it won't be insured as my NCB will be on another car, I will then start selling stuff starting with the engine and lastly the interior and shell. If the shell doesn't go for a reasonable amount I will have to find somewhere to keep it.

Big shame, would love to have seen this being a long term thing... Not just a long term project, but a car that you got to use for some time also. I appreciate why you're doing it, though
When the time comes, talk to me about the interior, I may be interested, I'm not sure how I'll get on with my standard stuff around track - it's certainly more supportive than my old 1.1 stuff, but whether it'll feel as good as my old XR2i 16v interior, I don't know. I would like to transfer it across, but it's not the best of condition, unfortunately. I'm definitely interested in the engine mount, unless of course you plan to sell with the engine? I take it your other potential sale didn't happen?

I haven't finalised a price for the engine yet so haven't spoken to the bloke round the corner, he has an Escort anyway so won't want the mount.

Re: Fiesta Azura - 03/03/14 - Page 2 - Steering Rack Issues
Right, bought a recon Turbo rack - length was correct (they should be about 1190mm from what I've gathered?), but it was 4.25 turns lock to lock.
Bought another, which is 3.75 turns lock to lock, and is also the same length.
So I fitted it yesterday with some brand new Delphi track rod ends, but I appear to have too much toe in? I then wound the track rod ends on as far as they go and it still visually looks like too much toe in.
I'm using Fiesta Turbo lower arms.
Is there anything I'm missing here?

Strange. Retainers remained essentially identical throughout production.
The only things I can think of are
1) You've been given Escort arms - though I'm not even sure they fit!
2) The track rod ends are incorrect
3) The tie rods are incorrect

Hmm yeah, strange indeed.
They're definitely the right arms. Track rod ends look identical to the other pairs I have... The only thing I can think is the rack ends are too long? Pain in the arse!
Kinda wish I'd stuck with my XR2i 16v arms and old rack from the white one

Who not use PAS, it's a fantastic rack. Feel is up there with a Boxster/Cayman when the car is lowered a bit!

They are Mk3.5 and specific to PAS - the geo is slightly different and the bushes are heavy duty, and the arms themselves are also stronger.
PAS is also 2.4 turns.

Cheers, Mark. I'll have a little think about it. I'd just like the car to be driveable for a bit so I can sort other stuff out before going out on track. I think PAS would be a good idea, but I don't have enough time at the min to get it done, so will likely be something to look at after I come back from the Ring

Re: Fiesta Azura - 03/03/14 - Page 2 - Steering Rack Issues
OK, so it looks like the rack is fine. I took one of the track rod ends off tonight and compared it to one of my old ones. Externally, the dimensions are identical, but then I compared the threaded bores and the new ones are shorter by about a centimetre. I swapped just one of them and straight away I can see I have some toe out
Now to get some proper track rod ends!

Re: Fiesta Azura - 12/03/14 - Page 2 - Bit Cleaner!
Nothing exciting still, but gave the car a good clean over the weekend.
Inside the rear arches are like new which pleased me greatly!
Only a few pics:
That was after a wash, clay and wash. I've since given it a polish with Auto Glym SRP and then protected it with Extra Gloss Protection. It's never going to be perfect because the paint simply has never been looked after, but it's good enough for what I want at the moment, and it's nothing that can't be sorted at a later date!
Still waiting on my genuine Ford track rod ends to turn up, then I can get the tracking sorted and get on with everything else

Haha, height is staying the same at the moment, it works well
What are you after? I'm likely to keep most bits as spares if I do strip it, but I'm not likely to touch the car for some time yet...

It will probably come up loads better with a good clay, iron-x and machine polish. Mine did!

Aww, cheers, guys
For some reason, the paint is really bad on the car. The roof is rather scratched like it's been through nothing but car washes all its life. The paint is also super thin all over the car, but there are no signs of it being anything other than original... It's quite strange! I actually think my old white Popular Plus was a far better made and prepared car!
Oh, and there appears to be bird poo 'scars' all over it!!! I think the car must have stood somewhere for quite a lot of its life.
I think it needs painting white

Oh, and on a more serious note, the wheels are looking a bit tatty now, so I'll get the tyres off and give them a blast at work and repaint them later in the year. Obviously the door and wing still need some attention - I'll start looking properly for some replacements once I know all is good with the car and it successfully makes it home from Combe in April

Cheers!
I guess I'm heading along the lines of my old one. I admit, ambers aren't correct for the year, and they don't suit the red as well as other colours, but the clears didn't look right to me either; I think I still associate clear indicators with something that people do to their cars as a modification Is that weird?
I actually don't like the completely plain black bumpers, I still feel they need the chrome strips like my old one, but then I'd need the side strips also to make it look right, and then I'll question myself as to whether I'm going too far? At the end of the day, it's a 1995 car, not a 1990 car. Hmm...
I have resisted removing the Azura badge so far, though! Which I really detested at first
