best line here was "its not down to personal choice"
on the othe rhand, my god are halfords out for your money... £15 fgor 2l of they're low grade stuff
i swear by magnetex, its great stuff, my only quarm is that they supply it in 4l or 1l so after buying the 4l which is often on sale in halfords, you then have to buy a 1l which is £10.99 i recall... clever aint they
id like to ask someone like dalsy who have dedicated track cars what oil they use, i bet its 5w30 but a really top of the line variant, not 5w50 "halfords race oil"

I take on board all the feedback you guy have posted I have merely gone from my own experiences with oil 5w30 magnetec was what i ran my cammed 1.1 hcs on and then engine went bang so i have since stayed clear
I am not saying I know better than ford or that I am better informed than anyone with a high power zetec on Ft
The friends I have who have worked for the ford ralley team and one who sells oil and provides oil for the mitisubishi ralley art cars
they both said it didnt sound like a bad think upping to 5w50 and would mearly improve the engines condition with regular changes.
Thanks for the links dont panic I will check them out this evening just off to work to drop off a letter

just buy two 4litres and keep the rest till next time, then when next time comes up, you only need to buy another 4 litres

No probs dude.
The reason your HCS blew up with 5w30 is that the HCS needs 10W40

Re: Fiesta Mk3.5 Ghia L reg
when i went winter mountaineering in scotland 3 months ago my toe nail got really badly infected
after it had already been ingowning for years lost the nail under a door when i was about 6 it bled alot.
So i asked to be refered to a podiatrist as it didnt improve after 1 month. I asked to ahve the nail permanantly removed
they put phenol acid on the nail root so i wont have a nail again more climbing now !!!
start a job as a mechanic in 2 days im really looking forward to it plus more pennies for the projects

Re: Fiesta Mk3.5 Ghia L reg
well after some investigation last night turns out it was a cam belt pully making noise
at work i got my car on the 2 poster and tried to tighten the belt see if i had any joy on the tightest setting it could still be moved off the cam pully
s**t
So i asked the boss if I could order a cam belt kit and pay on pay day (he said yes and as such is awesome)
So took me 3 hours i total to strip down and found the water pump pully the larger idler looked like a tractor tyre it has shattered the bearing race and worn through the belt cover
Again SHISSEN !!
so after undoing all the engine mount bolts I lowered the engine stripped the old bit off refittied the new belt Modified the old casing as it was baxtered
and then cleaned the casing due to the bearing grease and rebuilt the lot and replaced the fan belt tensioner pully with a better spare
Long store short its fixed and runs a sack loads better and the bark is back in the exhuast system
Then redid the brakes on a transit van all round and decided if i can get some 2 pot front transit calipers i might fit them to the fiesta for fun

quite an aggressive spec there mate, seen he was selling that Gti set up, certainly not bad for a 2.0 for the price, but i still not sure about them being as good as a H.O
should paint up the cam cover nice now, maybe some silicone leads, can show them off now theres no inlet pipe covering them

will get magnecore kv85 leads before i fit the nos and probs some colder plugs for now will be fine with standard leads
tyres fitted felt like I had s**t brakes on the way home they grip so much more than A539'S
like rails round corners now i need an anti roll bar on the rear will wait tho
work is a bosch service center thinking bosch discs and pads to mate the mondeo calipers
will strip the calipers and refurb them in red and wheels will be going matt black before my birthday

Re: Fiesta Mk3.5 Ghia L reg
HCS PIMP :most people building a 2.0 fiesta whats as a big a bhp figure as possible to try and emphasise the fact they have a small penis I am merely after torque and MPG
so I dont see the point in spending £75 on a Ho inlet when my last 2.0 ran fine on a 1.6 item
and tbh I have ported the sanwich plate so the airflow gains VS cost to buy isn't worth it
I aim to build the fiesta to have a comfortable cruising speed and when the need presents itself to get away from Nobish drivers in seat leon's
I'm never getting rear ended again and tbh I will be doing throttle bodies next year so agaian the outlay of a Ho inlet isnt really warented
I use the car everyday
not chasing figures but your planning on nos?
now thats doesnt make sense

Re: Fiesta Mk3.5 Ghia L reg
long story short my 2.1 went BANG iE con rod number 4 punching a hole threw the block like chuck norris
taking out the crank, rod, piston, block and sump. The result a load of smoke on the a59 a trail of oil
and then a small oil fire to deal with
SOOooooo.........
After 2 weeks without an engine i now have a 1.8 escort gti lump, with 2.0 cams, ecu and throttle body so essentially a rs1800
just need to get a new inlet Ho jobbie and then sports cat
wont happen for a while but febi wisbones probs be going on soon

Right. This time, put Formula F 5w30 Fully synthetic oil into the thing and you'll stop blowing up your engines!

my work dont rebuild engines and tbh it happened as the oil pickup pipe had come loose i torqued it as per the haynes manual.
possibly due to engine vibrations when the gearbox mounts were shagged or my driving style

Can't of been torqued up right. My engine etc vibrates lots due to the way I've mounted it but never had that problem, or anything similar!

Re: Fiesta Mk3.5 Ghia L reg
i know exactly what you mean mate, gotta get it revving a bit before your off, but its nice when it comes, as it kicks you in the arse!
with that kent cam i have (kents version of a 2.0 cam) it kicks in a tad earlier than the ford 2.0 cam, so around 3k not 3.5/4k
but it improved low end torque well too, 140lbs at around 2.8k
still, imagine a 2.1 being even torquier still!
get that H.o and it be a bit more willing, torque will hike up too, first thing i noticed going from a 1.6 inlet to the h.o
