Fiesta mk2 - ready for ford fair !
Re: Fiesta mk2 1.1
black2 :On the topic of gear boxes my first mk2 fiesta was 5 speed from the factory, it was a "fresco" model 1.1.
Im not so sure the mk3 linkage fits though? I never tried it but ive also never heard of it either?
with my 2.0 zetec im using a fiesta si gearbox but dont really recommend it as the ratios are pathetic! 5th gear is far to short, as are all of them really. Its good for initial acceleration but thats about it, depends what you want it for i guess.
Gareth.
i strongly disagree with that mate, the Si box is a brilliant box, its strong, quick and pushes the right buttons to get the most out of the engine, especially compared to the 1.1, 1.3 etc boxes
but obviously other zetec fiesta share these traits, but ive never experianced them, but i felt a solid difference between my 1.3 box in the mk4 and this Si box

Re: Fiesta mk2 1.1
I cant agree im afraid. I think Ford may have shortened the ratios in the si to make it feel "sportier", because in standard trim they are incredibly under powered and slow. TBH it prob dos'nt show so bad in the standard car but when its mated to something with a bit more poke it just feels like im for ever working the gears and at 70mph the revs are really quite high. (cant actually remember how high due to not having driven the thing for so long ) like I say though good for sprints etc but on a journey it becomes very tiresome with the revs up so high and not great for fuel economy.
To be fair though I cant actually recall what the ratios are like in the other sporty models ie the FRST etc, i don’t think its much better but again i cant remember as ive not driven the frst for ages. I have been driving my 1.8 diesel fiesta a lot lately and that "seems" to have much better gearing, but again it might feel better because its so slow. I dont know
Did'nt Mark (excursion) post up some interesting literature recently regarding ratios from differing models?

jonyb4 :So what red did the later mk2 come in?
Does the earlier linkage still fit the mk3 box then? Or do you just fit a later linkage
all the boxes of that time were the same (well, apart fome some in the mk3 escort- fitment wise to car), so yeah, mk3 box is 100% the same as the mk2 and will fit.

Re: Fiesta mk2 1.1
Clark I have a few questions, Are those springs for non xr2 models? and are they quite forgiving on the road? Reason i ask is because the springs on my mk2 are doing my head in now, the car is to low and to hard, couple that with the s**t roads round here and the fact its a daily i just cant stick it anymore.
Also where did you purchase them from?
Gareth.

dont mean to pump in but i understand completely, my Si gas shocks with lowering springs (only 30mm) is very uncomfortable on bumpy surfaces

the lowering springs are made by pi and i got them off a seller on ebay. They are the 30mm drop kit for the xr2 model so are stronger than the 1.1 options.

Re: Fiesta mk2 1.1
I finally got round to fitted the hub centric spacers on the mk2 ( front & rear )
They are from burton power and are 12mm thick. Very pricey too !
The universal spacers i had on front were causing bad wheel wobble between 45 and 55 mph.
For the rear i had 20mm spacers which were hub centric but far too big and caused the rear tyres catch the wheel arches over bumps and when carrying passengers in back.
12mm spacers have cured all the problems. Much happier now
I knew i could get 195/50/15's to work

thats not a bad idea jony, although any new parts would be uprated from a mk5 model as the zips are better, but the velcro isnt

Re: Fiesta mk2 2.0 zetec coming soon !
i came to the conclusion that the fiesta st calipers wont go on without modifying the mk2 hub.
So tonight i picked up some sierra cosworth 4x4 calipers from a fello ft member.
These will be getting a make over and will be fitted with escort mk5 Rs2000 discs which are 260mm.
Cant wait to fit these then source a mk1 mondeo servo & master cylinder

iirc the base model brackets do NOT need to be modded, its only the xr2 ones from what I have understood and read in the past.

Re: Fiesta mk2 2.0 zetec coming soon !
Not a massive update on this but still worth adding i think.
mk2 Dash instrument panel removed
Run a couple of wires from instrument panel to glove box area. 1x earth wire & 1x illumination wire
1 x mk5 fiesta zetec s glovebox light (still availible from ford main dealers for around £12)
Pop it in the hole already provided by henry ford.
press the button - no light
We have light !
Finished article - excuse the junk in there
I basically soldered the illumination wire into one of the bulb holders that lights up the heater panel. Therefore the glove box light will only work when side lights or mainbeams are on. Pointless having it working during the daytime.
Its the little comforts that make it a worth while
