Yep its all back together after a very late monday night after the mini began to play up.

Image
Image
Image

It runs lovely and quiet now. No more piston slapping/knocking noises. The ib5 gearbox has a much smoother gear change than the Bc diesel gearbox. Im looking into modifing a Zetec s gear linkage to fit the mk2. Which ive heard makes it even better when changing gears.

Also stops on a 2 pence piece with the mondeo servo and master cylinder. Rear brake drums require cleaning out and shoes resetting i think. Rear brakes are a bit lazy.

This was todays enemy - tree sap. The bonnet and roof are completly covered in these horrible bumps which are in the paint work.
I tried everything to shift it - t-cut, polish , bug & tar remover, white spirit. Even using a sharp finger nail was no match. Its certainly been on there for some years.
When you run your hand over the paint it has hundreds of lumps and bumps.

Image
So i thought i try a clay bar kit after talking to a very helpful Ft member.
the meguairs kit contains 2x clay bars with carry case, clay application lubricant, microfibre cloth and finishing ultimate wax.

Image
Image
applying the mist lubricant

Image
circular motions with the clay began to smudge the sap and highlight it even more in this picture. Each small area took about 5 minutes to work.

Image
this is what the clay has been removing. Plenty of contaiminants !

Image
1st area came up a treat !

Image
Image
Image
Re kneading the clay into a ball then flat again cleans it up nicely allowing you to continue.

Image
Image
Image

The end result :oooh: :o :o
smooth finish just like glass , waxing took 2 minutes once clay was done with. Which protects the paint work from future sap.
Best cleaning product ever ! :Q

Mk2 didnt make it to ford fair this morning.

we had a lucky escape tbh. the off side rear wheel locked up and i had to regain control. I was only doing 40mph along the main road. it left a 25 meter skid mark.
The wheel bearing collapsed and the wheel locked up. Plenty of blue smoke bellowed from under the car and it made me come to a swift hault.

If i had made it onto the motorway doing 70mph it could of ended up alot worse than this. Im upset it happened but relieved it happened close to home than half way to ford fair in the middle of no where.

It was relayed home then made my way to ford fair in the mini cooper.

cheers everybody.

I took the wheel off earlier , removed the rear hub nut & split pin to find the locktab washer has fused itself to the bearing. The drum will not come off without a puller.

I fear the worst if it has damaged the spindle then i will need to source a replacement axel :(

Surely the bhp going through your rear wheels would compensate for the seized bearing though.
