bit more progress to report this weekend.

i decided to renew a few gaskets on the replacement 2.0 litre engine. The sump gasket was weeping slightly so thought i do a full bottom end refresh.

Image

Painted the bottom end black

Image

Crank seal housing been leaking for a while from the staining. i replaced both crankshaft oil seals along with sump gasket , oil pump gasket and crank housing gasket.

i had to create my own gearbox spacer plate. i took the mtx 75 plate from ford and cut it in half. then used the bottom half of the old zetec spacer.
fitting the gearbox onto the engine was quite tricky with a 2 piece spacer. We had to put the engine on its side then mount the gearbox on from above.

Image

with some helpful hands the lump and gearbox was put back in. driveshafts back in & exhaust all refitted.
Just the rest of the plumbing left to do.

Image
Image
Image

Ib5 gearbox in place. The new mondeo servo is just the right size. Any bigger and it would foul the coilpack bracket and the rear of the gearbox. :)

Image

Brand new Bosch rear starter motor fitted. My next job is re-running the starter wiring from the front of the car along the drivers inner wing and relocating it round the back. Which will be a neater job.

End of the month i hope to take the mk2 back up to top gear to get the focus st170 exhaust manifold fitted. Now the starter is at the back it wont foul the downpipe

i believe its a fiesta mk3 zetec alternator - less air con - less powersteering. you can get a 70 amp or a 90 amp.
the one i have ordered from ford is a 70 amp as i dont have any electrical extras on the mk2.
