after using a puller i borrowed from work to remove the drum then cracking the drum outer removing it. The outer bearing has chewed up the spindle. So axel is scrap now.

Ive therefore been sourcing parts to renovate the rear end.

Brand new adjustable panhard rod - from xrtwo.com
brand new genuine ford brake shoes, wheel cylinders, brake adjusters
brand new non ford brake drums
brand new non ford wheel bearings - ford no longer service them.
Brand new genuine ford rear axel

axel and drums have been dropped off this afternoon to be powdercoated black. So tomorro will be all systems go to get old axel off and fit all new parts. Pictures will follow shortly :)

This is a going to be a huge update. I got so many pics i dont know where to begin....

After borrowing a gear puller from ford to remove the drum i found out what the damage was
Image
Image
Image
This is the deverstation the outter wheel bearing has caused. completly mullered the spindle - making the axel scrap

I decided to go for a new axel over a 2nd hand jobbie. Ordered it from ford

Image
Image
Image
Old axel removed.
drums, trailing arms, handbrake cable, brake lines, wheel cylinders, shoes, shocks, springs & backplates all removed.

Image
Image
New axel powdercoated black - shock absorbers refitted

Image
Brand new drums - powdercoated black too - brand new wheel bearings fitted

Image
Image

Image
New spindles :D

Image
axel bolted back onto car this evening.

I had to replace the drums with no shoes or handbrake connected as it began pouring down with rain once again. Even under a tarpourline i got completly drenched. Car is back on 4 wheels for now until the weekend when i can refit the rear brakes and bleed up the system again.

Working outside in the street is a right baxtered !

gutted least you know the rear end is spot on now. Had a similar problem a few years back with my mini was driving to leeds front wheel locked up stopped the car at 30mph
pulled over and jacked the mini was nothing that I could see wrong when i took the wheel off the brake caliper dropped to the floor with a clunk
it sheared the caliper mouting lugs and one of the bolts was gone
this is why I never skim on brakes
2.1 Went BANGGGGG now a Ghia 1800

I've not used it mate, but if it's a pressure pump type thing it should be pretty easy. If you don't want to buy the gun then I recommend this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DINITROL-3125 ... 19c81b96d7

it's amazing, you heat the cans in warm water and when spraying you can see the wax come out of the seams! For the rest of the underneath you can just use a brush for the Waxoyl.

Clark, I used the spray can waxoyl you can get in halfords, managed to do the whole of the underside of my car and sills with 1 big can of it, but I would perhaps recommend 2 cans of it depending on how you apply it. I dont know if thats what you was saying about the sprayer, but I thought id have my input just in case it is lol

4 cans of Dinitrol should do most of the key hidden areas: I did inside chassis sections, inside the car behind the wheel arches and around the front wheel arches. The attachment you get with the Dinitrol is pretty good as it sprays out the wax in a 360 degree pattern inside the box sections :)

You will need some surface protection wax (its a bit thicker) for the rest of the underneath, I use Waxoyl for this as it's just as good for surface protection but works out cheaper.

If you want to stick with Waxoyl for the lot then what I have done in the past is to thin some of it with Parrafin or petrol then use a garden spyrayer or something for the box sections.

not much of a update but i find these little things make the car a much nicer place to be :)

Image

The xr2 steering wheel jay kindly sourced me had a worn out badge on the center cap. Of course a new center cap is no longer availible from ford so i got in touch with DMB graphics.

Image
One brand new Ford gel emblem :Q

Image
i used a nail scrubbing brush with hand soap to clean the center cap and remove the last remaining bits of print off the metal badge

Image
badge fitted

Reffited to the car - much better ! :aviator:

I was dubious at first whether the kit would work or not. But it done the trick !

The kit done wonders on the 23 year old paintwork. I tried everything to remove the tree sap and ingrained road grit. Tcut wouldnt shift it - neither would tree sap remover !

The clay bar and detailing mist got everything off leaving a glass finish ready to wax :D
claying the paintwork for the 1st time takes quite a while - but when you come to do it again it will be so quick and easy.
