strip down of old engine begins tomorrow afternoon. cant wait :)

hopefully for the last time , ryan is cracking on with the new megaquirt ecu and edis wiring loom. New management should bring some more life into this new engine along with st170 exhaust manifold.

Woop! How much did you pay for that engine? I hope it wasnt mega bucks because you can get them brand new for £600 :)

Talking of trumpets, the alpha webber throttle body setup works nicely on these, comes made for the blacktop engine too!

ah thats a odd improvision, seems to work though, just extra clearance between caliper and disc, where did you get that idea from then?

does it create a unworn spot on the pads?

i got the idea when i realised the caliper wouldnt bolt up due to the pad fouling the center of disc. dont know about a unworn spot as i havent removed them lately.

Update you all have been waiting for :D
Engine & gearbox are out for the 3rd time. With the essential help from adam even with the rain falling. We did the usual lift the car up high enough with axel stands then slide engine & box out complete from underneath. i find that so much more easier than fighting to remove it from above.

This idler came with the engine. It uses a steel wheel nut to centralise the pulley and nut & bolt to the bracket.
i will change it for the other one once ive worked out where exactly it needs to be. Eventually i will have the nut welded on the back of the bracket to stop it slipping down.

yes mate

im not going to butcher a perfect mk2 shell just for a engine.
The modified cvh mount worked well with the silvertop so it will work again with the blacktop

because its not available with off the shelf parts and no fabrication I suppose. I would mount it from the side like the Focus, as it is certainly a better way of doing it from the point of view of the engine tilting under load, but of course that involves chopping the shell, which Clark rightly wants to avoid on such a clean car.

will be the same problem, will need welding to the shell, or at best holes drilling for an adapter mount.

jonyb4 :so its as easy as that? :oooh:

The water pump on a blacktop engine turns anti-clockwise to operate correctly. So you need to run an idler pulley to do this. From the pics ive posted you can see ive had to buy a special bracket which bolts to the original pas mount.
some people butcher a blacktop engine to accept a silvertop waterpump but i dont like that idea. Bit of a bodge tbh.

The bottom rad hose will need modifying or changing completly to accept the different size water outlet.

On the rear of a blacktop the holes are in a different position. So the silvertop fiesta rear mount wont fit. I went for the cvh mount route on the mk2 but you can butcher the shell to accept the side mount which as dave says is better for accelleration.

Everything else is the same really.

Engine mount is complete :)
Jay has done a cracking job fabricating this from a cardboard template i supplied. He has modded a cvh mount to fit the rear of the block.
you may notice that he has extended the left hand side by welding on side and relocating the holes to match the block. He has even added a metal tube to the lower right hand of the mount so i can use all four bolts to hold it on.
I have trial fitted it and it required a small lip at the back of the mount to clear the tensionier.

Image
Image
Image

i now need to cut a small section out of the timing belt metal cover and a small cut off the top plastic cover to clear the side mount.
you can spot the upgraded tensionier from these pics too.
