Fiesta Mk3.5 2.0 zetec project

Postby LewisDurkin on Wed Apr 18, 2012 5:07 pm

Hey everyone Ive just registered and thought id show everyone my car in progress.

I Bought the car last year off my mate who was stripping it for track days. he had bought an xr2i for the road. anyway i saved it from destroying it and slowly bit by bit its coming together. Im currently off work at the minute with a broken arm so no money to spend on the old girl. I bought the car for 500 squids! it had 48k on her then and 3 owners from new! well anyway ill let the photos do the talking...

this was whilst my mate had it, parked it in trolley huts to stop it rusting away!
Image

This was the day it became under my ownership. them wheels where way too big for it.
Image

My mates dad has his own garage and all three of us shared a passion for ford. so we serviced it, new plugs, filters etc. he said he cant see why it wouldnt pass another MOT with a few things putting right. MOT isnt due till Decemeber 2012!
Image

Thats it sat with uncles escort.
Image
Image

Looking Low just on 30mm springs, have some bad camber on the front now. literally eating tyres. any ideas where to problem lays there?
Image

Got these for free! currently re furbing them then selling, im on the hunt for some RS2000 alloys for it
Image
Image

I know, forgive me the rs badge is terrible. I liked the carbon wrap. excuse the charger cables.
Image
Image
Image

as you can see the car has little interior. and the as you can also see by one of the photos the mirrors arent in the best form. so that was the first task!
Image
Image
Image

I got two MK4 mirrors from a scrapyard for a fiver, one was blue and one purple. not a problem.
this is where becoming a vehicle refisher student came in to place!
A good scotch and some satin black!
Image
Image

bit of fun in the ice at college!
Image

I decided was going to put an interior in the car having one passenger was boring.
Then looking through ebay i came across a full xr2i interior for 30 quid!
My mate decided he would have a go at getting in his little clio.
then the day before we was due to set off to collect it my mate told me he had bought some renault leather seats for his car and well how we got it in is a miracle!
Image

we had to leave the dash and that was it everthing else went in i got every last bit. even thought some was painted blue i didnt think i did too bad for 30 quid!

looking sorry for its self after i sorned it. had an issue with the alternator. and my insurance was too hard to pay been on sick.
Image

Whilst in a weekly look round a scrap yard. i came across a red fiesta 1.1 xr2i replica, had xr2i alloys and a few of the engine parts painted blue. just wondered if it was anyone on heres old car was a shame to see it there. any way one mans junk is another mans treasue and all, i had the xr2i arches skirts, rear bumper and spoiler of it, along with the headlamps. grand total of 42.50 for it all! great scrap yard U PULL IT near york if its near anyone well worth the visit have an xr2i in at the moment.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

thats as the car sits now. all in interior fitted, kit held on my masking tape, not a permanent hold will rivet them on and seal.

left over parts. free to good home really just taking up room. can imagine the roof be Fudged now after might of been left in the rain
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Thats as far as i am upto soo far. plans for the car when im back in work are
-Fit the body kit properly.
-paint my standard plastic bumper red at college and fit the rs assesory splitter on.
decided to do this because there seems to be loads of xr2i replicas out there. so i want to do somethng a little different mixing the kits up, i love the arches on the xr2i
but prefer the rs assesory splitter soo much to the xr2i one.
-Tint the rear indicators black for the euro look.
- de-cat it hopefully will bang and pop and little only got a little cherry bomb back box so hopefully the pressure will be there.
- Tint back windows
- rs turbo sticker for the rear. then the "1.1 inside" under it
- I want some rs 2000 alloys of escort gti alloys painted black un decided.
- get the unwanted camber sorted. any idea's guys? reckon getting it tracked will sort it?
- want to spoiler and bonnet carbon wrapping and on raisers.
- oh most importantly fit new alternator

Hopefully will be on the road for ford fair
there will be things that ive missed off and ill try to add them

All comments, thoughs, ideas, and opinions welcome

Positive or negative, its your opinion.

Thanks Lewis

Looks good, Fiesta's are great for changing bits easily and building up from a base model. Its what I did with my first car back in ~2003. (and I'm doing again now, but more slowly  )

Just try to do things properly first time round, worth it in the end 8)

nice to see you found a sporty interior since you needed one anyway eh?

are you a new driver then?

you seem to have the right head on your neck avoiding them blue interior bits, thats the right way for the enthusiasts scene :Q

nearly everyone on here started out with a 1.1, only had mine a month though, but god i miss it

Hii Ive got a Huge update!

After the site kept crashing on me when i first registered i lost my temper and gave in.
But know ive come back and its playing ball soo far (touch Wood!)

Il try to upload the photos i can In time Order from the last 6 months. so here goes...

I got the body Kit all sprayed up in my final year of college. last bit of spraying i think Ill do seen as there's no jobs out there for us young ones!
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Aswell as spraying the kit i also refurbed my alloys that i was given for free! rather happy with my self with the job on these wheels. :)
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Then one day I was Bored enough to spray my bonnet matte Black, i quite like it and not bad for a piss can job!
Image

Then I was working and had a bit of money and the car was on the road! for a full 2weeks! 'conquering device' up with insurance and a few high rated phonecalls left me inuranceless and skint! heres some photos of whilst i had it back on the road.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Now Ive finished college, Im on the look for a full time job. On paper Im fully qualified as a Paint sprayer, but thats nothing without the experience. Bit gutted really, its a Job i could see my self turning into a career and doing for a lifetime but thats life! Got to Get on with things.

I also Attempted to create some Euro Spec rear Light replica's, when there flatted and re Laqauerd hopefully they'll look mint!

Im now stuck in two minds! Do i turn the car into a RS1800 replica which i would only need to get a front bumper and alloys, and interior. as ive got the rest of the bits.

Or do I leave the RS assesory kit on and make the car into something unique. do something different aposse to making another replica!

One thing for sure is in good time i want some coilovers so i can get the car sat on its ringer!
Image
photoshopped ;)

Any Questions, Opions, advice feel free to share and ask.

Anyone want to make me a sig with one of the photos? I Have no Idea what im doing when it comes to computers!!

Thanks Lewis

have a look through the various threads, get a feel for which wheels tickle your fancy, a guy Tom who is member on here (singlecharge) had a RS option kit on a red mk3, and hes used older escort/orion/sierra RS option alloys (14"inch "snowflakes") and it suited the kit to the T

Im not sure, it is quite tacky stuff, but then again I love the stuff.

Might so small details with it. like door handles and door locks, all the black plastic stuff,

if its not wrapped it will end up getting colour coded.

Got a huge update for you guys! My dad got involved with my fiesta and has paid for all the materials for a full respray, we spent no time hanging around and got stuck straight into, although its no quite finished I decided i'd get loads of photos posted for you guys., ill try to upload them in chronological order, cheers

First off I got some new wheels 13" RS7's, 2 good tyres and 3 centre caps, ( picked up a fourth centre cap later on ) paid a whopping £50 for these
Image
Image

Then off to my dads it went,
Image
Image

Once at my dads we got stuck in straigh away, by fixing a few bits that needed sorting, steering joint, alternator wiring, and brakes, whilst the brakes got replaced we decided to freshen them up

Image
Image
Image

We struck lucky with a local scrap yard and got a dent free bonnet! some of you may question how we got it home ;)
Image
Image
Image
Image
The bonnet is to be resprayed but my dad polished it up anyway :p

Then it was to fir the skirts and arches,, drilled holes for self tappers and piped some tiger seal in, Lets just say this body kit isnt going to fall off anytime soon!!
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

I also got my hands on a upper rst spoiler from a chap off here, and a lower assesory one for 6 quid of ebay!
the holes was marked up and drilled for them and fitted later after paint

Image
Image

then I have lots of photos of the prep work, dad worked his magic with a dent bar, and pulled out loads of dent's to save time filling, then the drivers side was filled and primed, along with the tailgate. Front and rear valance was also all undersealed up!
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
ImageImage
Image
Image
Image

Image

The tailgate and spoilers was then painted and fitted up, looks awesome!
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

The did a bit of shopping and bought plenty of new car bits, got my self a VR6 Splitter, wind deflectors, Green vinyl stipe and chrome stlying stripe ( all will be revealed later) new sound system and a few other goodies
ImageImage
Image
Image

we decided to fit the spliiter, after many mixed reviews about it on here, we just got stuck in and 2 hours later it was on solid! Also wrapped my outer fogs in yellow tint film.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

So far the tailgate is all painted and most panels are ready for paint, just the roof to tackle. and the passenger side too. Its come a long way this car and its only going to get better and better, All the time effort will eventually pay off and be rewarding!

ImageImageImage

I will try to keep updation this thread as much as I can,

All your comments, opinions and thoughts are all welcome

whatever they may be!

Thanks

Re: Fiesta Mk3.5 2.0 zetec project

Postby LewisDurkin on Mon Jun 30, 2014 9:03 pm

Its been a while since ive posted but not much has changed. Whilst at the full respray decided the engine needed a bit more poke! weighed up all the possibilities and set our minds on a zetec lump. after a few weeks I found one for sale on the fiesta mk3 facebook page. It was a 2.0 silvertop that had been in an si so all the sump, pick up pipe etc had allready been changed. came with the rs1800 HO inlet, banana pipe, K&N panel filter, full stainless steel exhaust & 421 manifold, Deep Ecu and 2.0 maf. and a few other goodies, engine on 70k and i paid next to nothing for it all! just had to drive 450 mile round trip for it.

Since then, me and my grandad put a new cambelt on the engine and painted the block black. grandads worked on zetecs in kit cars and he inspected the engine and in his opionion its all good. I then needed a gearbox, engine mounts, zetec loom, radiator and the other usual bits for the conversion. I managed to get my hands on a rotten si for peanuts so me and my friend stripped that back to a bare shell and took everything i needed from it, the shell was way gone, it was battered before we even got our hands on it!

Then Ive got a few photos of tourmaline green si i got.

was a bit of a shed but was ideal for what i needed, window was smashed, headgasket had gone, inlet was missing, no interior, but like i say was ideal for me.

got all the bits i needed off and a few spares. ive bought few other bits, got some rare xr2i recaros from near wales, they was a steal too! few other bits of car have been painted. and its all just a case of finding time for it.
on the shopping list at the sec is a set of pipes for the zetec engine, cant justify £210 for 6 silcone hoses at the sec, so if anyones got any standard ones for sale thats great! I need coilovers, St150 brakes for the front and need to decide on some alloys. Ronal turbos are what ill settle for i reckon.

does anyone know what this plug is for on the 1.1 car loom? nothing on the zetec loom lines upto it and been told it could be for the water temp etc.

thats the update so far and hopefull going to get cracked on more over this summer and finally have it finished

what gearbox would people recomend, Ive heard mixed reviews about the si box on a 2.0. and S2 turbo boxes just seem good for the LSD, I want a good all rounder box, because ive been told the si box sits at 80mph at around 4K. Diesel box has popped into my head now and again, whats your thoughts?

any advice, comments thoughts are always welcome.

cheers Lewis
