fiesta mk3 Turbo Diesel conversion engine, pic's UPDATE 29-3
on a unexpected call yesterday i had the delivery driver arrive with my engine, i had the flu (recovering now ) and it was bloody cold out side. for the engine, i managed to get the breakers in coventry down from £250 to £150 with haggling them, with delivery it has cost me £190 in total, which is a good deal to me
upon unwraping the engine does look clean, alright its done 90k so does need a clean here and there. straight away i go to the turbo and give it a feel, no play inside which made me happy, at some stage its had a repaired fuel pump as my fiesta has as well- bonus for me.
theres a couple of things that i have realised from EXCURSIONS conversion website http://www.mwstewart.co.uk/index.php?co ... endura_tdi that i thought were hard but are not as, i ask myself, why did i ask excursion so many questions, i still may have to, but questions not as stupid as i have done like- whats the crank pulley? durr, i already new but got confused about using the fiesta one- heres some pointers im a little confused with-
take picture number 1, now i see what he means by the crank pulley being too wide and failing the fiesta chassis, looks to me very easy to use the fiesta alternator bracket etc and move the fiesta alternator to the front of the engine instead of the back. although on the mondeo crank pulley there is a space for another belt, must be power steering belt or something
take picture number 2, you can see a driveshaft type object with splines- my green screwdriver tip is pointing at it, obviously no use for the fiesta but im not sure what it is?
in picture number 3- this drives off the fuel pump, i think this must be something to do with the air conditioning as there is something that screws into it- look at picture 1 i think this pipe connects to it but the pipes been cut so i cant tell, pipe is mounted onto the alternator. also my second finger points at what looks like a mount, think theres no need for this on my fiesta.
picture 8 im certain is the fuel lines.
lastly my main concern, links pictures 5+6, red box in corner of 6, its the same thing, something like a pipe connects to this but im not sure, something tells me to do with oil circulation but i dont know where the pipe should go to
when am i going to start this?
good question i had to ask my self, hopefully next year when the weather starts to get a bit warmer, i still need to source a few parts first, i need to source a mk1 mondeo inlet manifold as this mk2 engine inlet fouls the suspention turrett, im going to buy some cooling pipes etc, my biggest quest is to source a xr2i exhaust and mondeo DOWNPIPE and weld the xr2i pipe to the downpipe so i can have a suitable exhaust for the car- i cant weld so its going to be hard to explain to a welder, unless someone can do this for me and i can pay you .
hope you like this

Well, 1: Can't you just fit the fiesta pulley?
2: No idea! Pic doesn't show where it goes.
3: Intercooler mount? Again, pic doesn't show enough, and is small.
6: Does look like an oil takeoff.

The drivshaft wants removing. It's held to the block with a bearing that unbolts. It's part of the mondeo equal length driveshaft setup.

Congrats for the purchase of the engine!
1. Please o please go and buy a f...... Haynes!!!!!!!!!!!. Even I got the Haynes that describes the 1.8 Diesel non turbocharged and tutrbocharged from the Fiesta/Escort/Mondeo and I'm like 16000 miles away from England.
2. The remarked pipe on the red box in picture numer 6 is the return from the head to the Coolant reservoir tank
Oh and again GET A HAYNES!!!!!

As Steve says above, number 2 is the equal length shaft setup. Imagine the gearbox mated to the engine and you'd see what we mean!
If you're after an exhaust mate, I've got a full magnex system from the downpipe back if you're interested PM me!

update 19-1
been working on the engine today, removng the parts that are not needed, heres some pictures + they will be in the for sale bit later today.
amazes me how much weight ive actually removed, so much easier to shift the engine around the garage
picture 1 at the top
downpipe clamp, mondeo engine mount, driveshaft, air con pulley (i think, pump sits on top of fuel pump) + air box pipe.
picture 2 middle
alternator + pulleys, clutch, a heavy flywheel, crank pulley
picture 3 bottom
complete engine loom.

beenn working on my car 21-3
been a long time since an update!
ive been stripping the parts from my diesel today, removed all the loom and put it to one side, most water pipes are taken off and ive taken the radiator out. tomorrow im going to pop the driveshafts out and remove the lower arm cradles ready to drop the gearbox and engine out
i dont like the fiesta fuel lines at all, there made out of a hard plastic and are not flexable at all, so im going to the motor factors at some point to get some flexible see through hose.
some of the fiesta pipes are a direct fit onto the mondeo engine.
if you look at the engine from the front
1. the hose which goes to the top of the header tank, into the left hand side of the block is a straight swap.
2. the hose on the fiesta at the bottom of the matrix is a direct fit into the back of the endura block.
im a bit confused about the other hose, which is at the top of the matrix, it wont fit direct with the mondeo engine, theres a metal pipe which comes up the left hand side of the engine and stops in front of the sump, so im going to have to work it out hopefully
also in the bottom picture, i cant see any way of retaining the fiesta radiator switch so i think i might have to cut the mondeo one off the loom and attatch it to the fiesta loom. the fiesta switch is the blue one and it plugs into the green plug in the picture (green thing you can see, just ).
waiting for my hoist to come through.

It sounds like I'm being pedantic, but if you're describing things you want help with, you have to use the correct terminology! The fan switch is the connector that screws into the water hose. The plug is what plugs into the switch. The blue thing photographed is the fan switch plug. So if you're asking what to do about the fan switch plugs (because they're different), it should be a case of cutting one off and joining the correct one (that relates to whichever fan switch you're going to use) into the loom.

The Mondeo engine has no fan switch, the fan is controlled by the ECU via a relay on the engine bay loom side. The plug you have in your hand is for a NTC temp sender that provides coolant temp to the ECU.

Dont forget, if you are replacing fuel pipes with flexible hose, you will need to get the correct type of hose for the job, and as far as im aware, you cant get clear flexible fuel hose. If you are talking about the clear type with braiding in it, similar to garden hose, that is no good, it will harden and perish quickly.

excursion- thanks for the info, so i ask how i get the fan to work, i suppose i could stick with a manual switch to turn the fan on/off, although the fan has worked once on my fiesta diesel as i am led to believe its a low temp engine.
pez- thanks for the info, the engine i have has a clear fuel line on the fuel pump somewhere, ill have to check
regards

Pretty sure I swapped the plastic Mondeo thermostat housing cover for an Alloy Mk3 Fiesta one, which has the screw threads for the switch.
Jim on that photo, you can jussst see the blue plug at the front of the engine, to the right of the fuel pump.

heeman10 :Ahh, useful info from Mr E! Just use a top hose with a fan switch in that you can run the fan off, i.e. your original diesel hose I'm guessing. I can't remember where mine took its feed from Can't see in my pics either, how ridiculous!
Pez - You can indeed get translucent fuel hose for a diesel
ah james have you got any more photos zoomed in of the coolant pipe setup, from what i see does the hose on the water pump to the left connect straight to the left hand side of the rad. if your stading at the front of the vehicle.

what mk3 fezz did you get it off? or was it off a diesel.

Rob if I´m not wrong you had a N/A Diesel egine before. To keep the fan you only will need the elbow where the fan switch sensor is plugged on your old engine. Just put that elbow on your new engine and voila!!!! Regarding the fan switch plug you will keep using the blue original one and just use some tape to insulate the other one and leave it.
If you need the code for the switch it is

I´ve just purchased one for mine and costed me a fortune. Damn imported sapre parts. It costed something like 23 pounds but to me it meant like 100 pounds to you.
Good luck

james if you look at the 2nd picture, look at the fuel pump which has "75" on it, and look to the right of it on the radiator. im looking at your radiator, did it have 2 connections for water hoses or one? mine has one but on your pic (i maybe wrong) it has 2 connections (one up the top and one at the bottom).
by the looks i think the hardest part maybe the water hoses, on the endura i have a pipe coming up the left hand side of the engine and ending in front of the sump, it comes from where the oil filter is around there.
its a bummer cos i dont have any of the mondeo hoses.
