Fiesta rear disc information needed

Postby Stoned on Tue Sep 16, 2003 2:55 pm

OK

I'm not looking for links here to Projects braking guide cos that doesnt really help :)

What I want to know is who has fitted rear discs onto their Fiesta. What did they use, and how easy was it. Cost would be helpful too.

I'm looking to upgrade to rear discs and I have no intention of paying £380 or so for Fiesta Centre's rear disc kit.

I gather the Escort RS2000 option is quite popular, so if you have done this conversion, please take the time to tell me (and others) about it.

Cheers very much!

I believe you need the backing plates, discs, pads, calipers and Mk5 RS2k handbrake cable, or if you could find a 130spec Mk5 XR3i

Only prob being is there aren't many Mk5 RS2K's or 130 mk5 XR3i's left or which are being broken.

Focus discs and Mk5 Fiesta beam is much cheaper, easier and improves your handling into the bargain.

Thats the option I would prefer Ade, but I have looked all around my local breakers and havnt yet found a Zetec-S Fiesta, and Focus's are still quite rare too.

Shame more Escorts didnt have the rear disc option as there is hundreds of those about!

Keep it comming folks!

hi, ive got the setup up from the back end of a cossie 4x4, different setup. The RS2000 setup incorprates the handbrake mechanism, in the centre hub of the disk like a drum setup, and the caliper is foot operated with the pedal. For fitment of the RS2000 setup, a little alteration of the brake pipes is required as there in different places. Also a little metal is needed to be grinded off your beam, to clear the handbrake cable coming in.

The MK5 rear beam option is better Moondust, but they are very hard to come across second hand.

Mondeo rear disks might be worth a shoot, as might be Granny calipers if you can find a way of mating them up...

I saw a mondeo yesterday that had drums on the back

Drums.... on a car that size?!

What is Ford obsession with drums, are they that much cheaper or something?

ive got a zetec s beam in my garage! just waiting to get the focus calipers etc!

and a mk4 wont fit the focus breaks straight on! only the late zetec-s beams have the right spaced holes etc to fit them! there are 2 diff beams!

There was a guide in PF on how to fit the Fiesta Frenzy kit. Im a copying this but doing it off my own back.

Granagda calipers are being used which were £15 pounds from a scrappy. The plate supplied by FF can be made quite easily and then an RS 2000 handbrake cable can be used but I have not yet thought about that too much.

I think that it can be done quite cheaply, but will take a while to sort the mounting brackets out. :D :D
