Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Shocks Update!!
I just had a quick look through this post. You don't waste any time, the car looks great. I wish I had the space to do mine, the welding is still being done. Do Ford still sell the underside clips and are those the original brake lines or did you have them made then powder coated green?

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Shocks Update!!
Just a few pics of the rear hub setup going on, started it today but couldnt fit anything until id got the new grommets and springs for the hub-plate...Not sure what theyre called but ive got them now and theyre fitted!!!
Shocks in place ..
Starting the hub and rear drum build-up...
.
Tommorow ill be able to pick up the rest of the front suspension bits and then fit the new-ish rear break setup..
The insides of the drums will have parts such as the cylinders screw heads and the like coated in an anti rust and thread lock, just to make sure no moisture gets to them and if it ever has water near it then it wont seep orange water over the powdercoat!!!

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Rears underway!!!!!!
Cheers mate!!
The brake line colour is a few shades lighter than the dark green it was, the camera flash doesnt help aswell. Its far too late to change it now tho, but i think personally it looks a bit fresher. My old rear arch ones were nearly brown after all the years lol!!!
And the nuts are going to be chipped off and painted the closest i can get to the brass effect, as to replace the nuts for new (which i did get) would have meant using copper tube as some of the nuts cant be re-flared as theyre so close to bends etc, and copper piping looks pony!!!

Eddie, it looks amazing - wouldn't mind owning it to or Luca's SI!
The brake shoes should be part number 1041484 which supercedes 6183877. The fitting kit should be 6187599. I've got loads of shoes if you need a picture for comparison.

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Rears underway!!!!!!
Thanks Tom...
I know they are correct now as 1)...You sold them to me... and 2)... I was using a brake lever kit from a 1.1 Fiesta and not a Turbo, which as you will know are totally different lengths!!!, Ive now re-used my original turbo ones which i had painted and all fits fine!!!
Now im left with fitting the handbrake pin inside the lever, underside horse shoe clip, then trying to see the best way to adjust them correctly!!!zzzzzz
Thanks again chaps!!!

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Rears underway!!!!!!
Just finished the rear brakes and handbrake....
Hopefully ive done it correctly and it looks ok?? My mate Martin attended the brake session armed with his knowledge and together with mostly his help and ideas, i think we cracked it.....
Feel free to pick any faults as im not 100% certain but nearly 99% its the correct setup
Just got to add threadlock and a few bits of grease and i think were ready for the hubs and bearings to add......

Phew!!! Ive only changed them once or twice before, and the last time was years ago.!!!
Getting there slowly..Do you know if the front wheel bolt holders (forget the name) round things, that accept the driveshaft through the middle have to be pressed into the front hub bearings or not?? Just gotta get them fitted and cleaned up but i dont know how they should look??? Zincd? P.Coated? natural metal colour?

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Rears underway!!!!!!
I would imagine you and Mark would probably agree that it is real pleasure putting your cars back together when your using nice new, clean and shiny parts, rather than working with dirty used stuff. It looks spot on. I'd like to do something similar myself when I've got the time and space, I'd be forever cursing for selling something that I now need and can't get hold of though!
I thought I supplied you with the shoes - I lose track as I've got so much stuff, and send so much out. I still think I've got about dozen sets of those shoes somewhere - my unit is very much like that blokes place from obsessive compulsive hoarders the other night - it takes a while to get from one side to the other, involves climbing over things and going through narrow tunnels.

Sorry mate missed the last bit. Technically they are called the hub, and the bit the calipers etc. bolt to that we all call the hub is actually the upright/knuckle. The hubs are pressed into the bearings, but the whole lot won't be secure until it's been bolted onto a shaft for the first time. If you put the hub in the freezer for a few hours it makes it easier.
The hubs and CVs come from the factory as bare metal because there is a risk of nitrogen embrittlement during the plating process. I've painted them in the past but only satin black. I'm not sure what products you can use to give that silver but slightly bronze tinted look of fresh cast metal

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Rears underway!!!!!!
Small update......
The parts that i had zinc plated were very good imo, but i managed to get in touch with an old pal, who does this line of work. I took a few remainding bits to him to be done last week. The finish is outstanding as youll see below.!!!!
Im now going to take the previous stuff i had done, back off of the car, and down to him to be redone tommorow!! All of theses bits....
If theres any bits that people want doing then i can sort out some prices if needed. PM me with any parts that people might need doing. The sender would obviously have to deliver them to me or post in a shoe box etc etc...
Enjoy!!!

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Updated again!!!!!!
Proper job there mate The difference between those two is that your original plating was just zinc, whereas the new plating is a zinc/nickel mix.
I've set up a mini laboratory in my kitchen (house is a renovation project lol) to do zinc/nickel but it's a total PITA, so I'd be interested to get a price from you. PMd
