Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Hubs Done.
Jay, the bolts are well easy to put through, Fords left a large space to get the bolts dollied in without removing the hub.
Yes that WAS the aftermath of an old screw which to me must have been there for years because ive never used them hahaha!!!!
MAN...... theres some real close lookers on this site!!!!!...Im gna have to up my game a bit!!!!

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Hubs Done.
Just near enough got the shocks in place bar a few bolts to tighten up and the hubs on etc....GRAFT
The stuff that had been coated had to be wire wheeled off in places such as where the shock sits into the hub, where the steering t.r.e goes into the knuckle etc as it was impossible for them to slide into the knuckles.
Ill say now...Putting a car back together with coated pars and new bolts, washers etc etc, is a pain in the arris. Every tool has to be covered in rags, making sure that nothing knocks any coating off, no metal hammers can be used, everything has to be tested for swing, making sure it clears other components and doesnt hit etc!!!....Not like banging old parts back on.......Right Nightmare....
Anyway managed to try and get a few decent pics, but with bad lighting and limited space its the best i could do!!!....
Forgot to put these on first so had to take shocks out again to get them in place!!!
This is how one of the sides looks....
So after major grief and the hands of MR Higgs im almost ready to drop.....
Hope yas like!!!

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Another Update!!!
Good work, it's looking good!
Minor things: There shouldn't be a washer behind the ARB link nut, and the nut which holds the brake hose bracket wasn't originally a Nyloc.

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Another Update!!!
Cheers fellas....
Oh yes young dave...you have it all to come!!!
Mark, i used the washer as when tightening the nut i didnt want to chip the fresh paint rounding the nut into the shock bracket. I wanted to match the nuts so chose two nylocs as it looks..."Less odd"...if ya get me!!!

i believe hes right here eddie, recently took my shock off and my suspension has been standard and maintained by ford servicing, the brake pipe bracket nut is a thin standard nut, and no washer was found behind the nylon nut for the drop link

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Another Update!!!
Thanks fellas....Im gna stick with the matching nylocs as they look cleaner and the washers will save the new paint being scratched to a circle when i do them up....
I didnt have to hammer the knuckle thank god...i slid the shock in then bolted it all up in one, rather than the old hammer it down and back up again. Should be near enough complete when i get the bottom shock bolts tmrw from fords.....
Oh and ive just managed to get another rear arb new from fords, so im gna be changing this for the powdercoated one, as its a little cleaner and less pitted...
Cheers tho lads, much appreciated!!

I asked the same about the nuts being green a few pages ago and apparently he is going to paint it the nearest colour to brass effect fella

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Another Update!!!
Yes correct rsturbonutter, youve clearly read the thread through!!! ...The coater didnt mask the nuts off so they got coated aswell.
Not a problem tho as it chips of in pieces and can be painted. Its hard you see, to attach a break flaring tool to the line as some of the bends are too tight to get it in place and a new nut on, (which i bought a load of).
Im going to use either a brass or gold smooth metal paint over them, but they are going to get factory paint flicks over them in blue aswell anyway....so its still a "job in Progress"...

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Another Update!!!
The ford brake pipes are a right ball ache to work with, they are too strong
Very hard to get a flaring tool to put a flare on them. Ideally you would cut the very end of the pipe off, put a new nut on, then re-flare, but thats a hell of alot easier said than done
I painted mine gold on the last RST I rebuilt, and it looked just as good

Fantastic work as usual . Just one question - why do certain parts have 'paint flicks' on from the factory?

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration...Another Update!!!
Its a quality control thing mate, once bolts were torqued up, a flick was added, then if they had been moved since, this would show as the flick wouldnt line up anymore etc
