Small update....
Been getting some of the engine bay gear finished ready to bolt up to the engine when it comes back in the next few weeks. Painted the manifolds in a permanent paint, then used my ol dears oven, (gas mk6 for around 35mins) to harden and cure the paint.
Fairly pleased with the outcome as i was going to get it all vapour blasted, but saw a friends work on a BDG engine so decided to try it.

This is the outcome...

Crossover pipe....

Inlets including new stickers and some of the new zincd metalwork...

Over time the cleaned metal will oxidise a bit and tone down. Just gona get two rocker covers powdercoated, one silver and one original grey then choose which looks the better and go for that one!!!!... :Q

(some of the zincd stuff in these pics looks very orangy-yellow, which is the light making it look alot richer than it is in natural light!!)

excellent mate :Q

you dont see that throttle bracket on the frst's much, there norm on xr2i's, but i think there the better ones when it comes to ease of removing the rocker cover!!

one concern though, on the inlet, where the vac pipe comes out to the brake servo, theres the push fit connector in that, and its brass and plastic.
i dunno how long you baked the inlet, but im thinking there might be a good chance the plastics been effected and you might end up with a slight vac leack on the seal, so might be worth changing before you refit the inlet, that way you can get it out easier, and any bits that go in the inlet, isn't going to make its way into the engine.

Hahahaha!!!! Thanks fellas. Makes it worth the while to have some good input recieved.

Jay...The heat from the oven curing i doubt was hot enought to distort that part, as i could handle the inlet straight from the oven, and ive double checked it but much appreciated for the heads up, easily overlooked if you get tunnel visioned into looks of the items when done!!!!

The bracket ive always prefered to the other style for the reasons mentioned and i think it gives a bit more interest to the engine.....Here the pic from a 1991 Ford Brochure i found..... :Q

Image

##Been to the painter today and im 100% happy witht the fella, and his ccracking attitude to things such as overspray etc on the inner arches and underneath etc. He seems a real friendly chap with an interest for the car, and doesnt see it as "just another blow over coming through" and iv seen his work on a merc grey S2!!!!

Thanks again!!! :Q

i ejoy professional people like that, nothign worse than a snob who just takes you for an idoit and does what he likes to your car, ive stopped going to my local mechanic for these reasons, he doesnt even ask what i want done if say a brake caliper has seized, he simply took it to himself to buy a brand new (refurbed) unit, instead of rebuilding mine

if he had asked id have bought a 2nd hand one

sorry jibber jabber :bonkers:

thing is though jony, unless you tell him you want s/h he wouldnt rebuild your old one, in most cases its just not worth the hassle or cost as it might still leak after.
and thats another reaosn most garages wont fit s/h ones, cos if it leaks, or fails, they could be held lible for it

Finally the car is nearly ready for paint!!!! :Q

Was meant to be going in yesterday, but i was let down by the lowloader and it has taken me a fair few drill bits and plenty of cigarrettes, trying to get a rusted in door pin out!!! Then i couldnt get hold of any. Turns out my mate at Fords can still get hold of them for me, so i went and bought 4 + clips earlier today!!!

Heres a few pics of it at the moment...

As i said, a few things to do yet like temp fix the drivers door on, and the bonnet ready for the painter to easily unnattach them when he starts it. Although he said hes gonna take extra care and skirt the car im still gonna wrap all the underneath in binbags and tape so its easily to take back off, when its back.
The engine is being started as we speak and the gearbox has all new gaskets and circlips fitted ( Thanks for the help Excursion (Mark) ol Chap!!) and is currently being taken back to metal for the repaint. :Q

Its not going to be at Central Day :( as its far too early as ive got to test stuff when it gets nearer the time, such as brakes, fueling etc, then got to get it MOTd, Taxd etc....Oh and insured again!!!!

Anyway only a small update, but do enjoy!!!! :D

More problems!!!!

Was going for paint today, but i took the bonnet out of storage, and remembered i filled the underside lip at the front a few years ago. When i looked at it i could see some rust bubbling on the paint and the underside was filled resulting in the lip going leaving a smooth underside....Didnt like this.....Any way after a bit of prodding around this is how i was left a day before painters!!!

Holy Rustman Robin!!!!
Image

Bonnet is fooooked!!!!
After searching the whole of Europe for a new bonnet i was unsuccesful as they are NLA anywhere, even afterparts depts.

Had a touch tho, after loosing out on one on ebay, i contacted the seller and he said the timewaster who won it, didnt turn up for it.........Moral of the story????........£70-00 later i had another MInt bonnet in the same colour with a superb front lip, not a sign of rust anywhere!!!!...Result!!!! :Q

Took the wiring loom brackets out again as they were getting too dusty and id forgotten to put the bonnet hinges back anyway....

Image

The New addition to the car!!!!

NOW booked in for paint on tues/wed next week!!!!! :D

lucky baxtered finding that in time!

made me wonder though, im damn happy my turbo bonnet is actually rust free, turbo parts are getting rare now! even worse some are rusting away, or dented to fook, and some ruined by being bad "boy'd"

will she be ready for show season then mate?
