Standard looks like a primer colour in the picture. Not too sure about that! The silver 'looks' more factory fresh.

Nice to see it in primer mate. I was going to write a joke that they had missed something but it wasn't funny so I left it out

Glad to hear the primer will be left to breathe a bit, though being painted in these temperatures will minimise the risk solvent pop or anything else. Are they going to have it back later on in the year once everything has had time to settle?

Was only this morning that I was going to ask for an update
Nice to see it coming on mate. As for the rockers I think the silver looks too silver if you get me and the grey looks too grey almost like a primer grey maybe its just your camera but it just doesn't look right. Maybe its because I have never clapped eyes on a brand new one
All the same I love this restore and really admire the work you have put into it. Keep the updates coming aand bloody hurry up and finish it so we can all drool over it. :D

I reckon the standard one because it'll offer the best contrast against everything else in the bay. The silver won't look right with the inlet and crossover unless they're to be powdercoated also, but then it'll just all blend into one. So I definitely think standard grey for the rocker cover will be best :)

Thanks chaps... :D

SMO, Rsturbonutter, Danny.......TBH i had a colour match that was bang on with the standard colour but they had just thrown it away as it wasnt used in ages and the powder can go stale!!!.
Im with the opinion that the silver blends into the rest of the crossover as one aswell!!! AND the ford colour one, is almost a primer/baby blue/grey (Wrong!!!!!!)

Just looking at the two of them as im typing, m not sure on either to be fair. The primer one is too primery colour!!! maybe i can get a darker grey done again on one of em. The real colour is like a greeny/beigy/grey and is a hard colour to get, so for the minute ill have to scout around, but now ive lost the original colour as its been coated and a pic is useless as it varies so much with pics/shades etc !!! :x

Mark, i aint asked why they would need it back later on in the year??? Why would that be mate??? :D

Anyway ill have to hunt around, thanks again tho felllllllas!! :D

Heres the silver one with crossover and oil cap...Too much silver!!!

Image

And the standardy colour...which is looking more and more "off" the more i look at it!!!

Image

Looks like ill get them both redon when i find a standard looking one down the scrappy...although i think the coating number which was bang on was 7038 i think!!!

Too much silver in the first picture for sure!

The 2nd one doesn't seem to match the colour of the ebay ones, I know the ones on ebay have faded, but they still have a hint of silver in them.

It could be a hard one to get right, lots of trial and error!

How dark are you willing to go?

That's slightly darker than the first picture...

Edit*

Very slightly darker again:

Now I've seen it, the silver doesn't actually look as bad as I thought it would! It depends what you're going for, though? I assumed you were going for standard throughout, in which case I'd go for the standard colour (pending a perfect match, obviously), but if you want something that looks good, then may be a good choice of silver would work better :)

After 5 or 6 months the layers of paint can settle down a bit and the car may benefit from another mop :)

Ok fellows....Been to the painters today.

Much better time to go as the panel fella has free reign of the whole workshop. Only 2 of em there today as the workshop is closed to the public...( he spends the weekends solely on my car!). Was able to chat with him as he was doing stuff to the car, asking him all the relevant questions as to how he does his stuff, why, where, when etc. The owners dad was also there working on the red Mustang, who showed me pics of the previous yanky cars hes done....Wow, lets hope they walk the walk hahahaha!!! :D

The reason its being done quarter by quarter is to give the filler/primer ample time to breath and any filler sinking can be identified. If the whole car was done in one then you can be left with filler sinking after a certain time, which isnt noticed as much as cars tend to be rushed through when done in whole!!!

The car is going to be baked in the thick primer which magnifies any (if any) sinking or (filler scratches) that might occur when its heated and to remove moisture aswell to prevent pickling. It will then be final sanded before being compressed air blown, then back in for final paint to be laid on nice and thick, then laquer.

Anyway some pics.....

Rear quarter after top fill and before prime with guide line...

Guide coated top...

Image

Top panel sanded..Bottom half guide coated...

Image

Image

Image

Bottom door skimmed before sanding....bottom half of rear in guide coat...The door has been pre-fitted. Ive just taken the catches and striker plates to be fitted for alignment, so they will be bang on. Once they are fitted they are coming back off again with all the other bits for the painting process...Filler looks like "cake mixture" here but once sanded like the other bits its very very smooth and mcro mms thick.

Image

Image

Image

He has used like a charcoal guide coat which is better than paint spray as its quicker and easier to apply, without the need to wait for drying etc.

I restudded the kit with new stainless threads, and he offered it up. This is the rear kit with the nuts only partially done up. Fits superb already with no gaps at all, and thats with no tightenenin or 3m tape around the inside edges!!!

Image

Image

Finally the rest of the panels, in a queue, waiting for alignment, or prepping!!! You can just about make out the fez getting her body fettled next to the Stang!!!

Image

Image

Image

All in all, well happy with the prep, the person doing it, and the whole outfit of the firm. The prepper and the painter both said how much they enjoy doing classics like mustangs "and" Fords like mine, as opposed to drive in drive out runarounds!!!

Hope yas like....any comments...good or bad....welcomed .... :Q :D

Hopefully mate. Fords never did put too much interest into painting of cars...It was just painted in mass procuction, as opposed to now bespoke painted with attention to detail... :D
