Ed, just reading your comments regarding FITP. Will the car be garage bound most of it's life then, or are you waiting for a certain competition in 2013 before really using it? Seems a shame not to get use out of it on sunny days, though I do know from experience building concourse standard cars that parts do need refreshing every year if used, especially zinc parts and powder coated parts exposed to the road.

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration....UPDATED 22/01/13..
Mark....Im not sure what direction ill be going with it to be fair.
99% of the underside has been re powder coated so its very robust, so thats no problem with regards to driving it. I know that the zinc doesnt last forever but alot of the stuff ive had done is fairly accessible, should it ever need re doing.
I am hoping to take it out and about on sunny days etc, down to southend, local Essex RS meets and Pass Ford N.London and drive to shows as much as i can, as it IS a bit pointless not to enjoy the car!! Ill just have to see nearer the time.
Ive got laods of recaros to use so the best set ive got dont get fooked in 'normal' driving, aswell as good cond front light setups to take the place of all the brand new "show" items, bonnet 3m and other protection gear, to help against stone chips.
I want to enter as many concourse shows as i can, room permitting and see where it goes from there really. If the need arises ill trailer it, but i know one thing, as much as i can help it, it will never see rain, doesnt matter what show is on. Sad eh!!!
If the competition is high and it doesnt come anywhere then i spose it will bea bit dissapointing but....Nothing ventured....nothing gained, as they say.
Its really just a path i chose as a hobby to get stuck into, learn more about cars, get to know alot of good contacts and people like your good self and really to see how much enjoyment i get out of it all.!!

That's all good mate, but the powder coat will chip off along the bottom edge of the beam and arb. Plus the leading edge of the s brace and sump. It would be well worth getting some paint protection film for those areas and also the skirts at the rear edge of each wheelarch.

Yea Mark thats what i intend to do....A man of your knowledge should be able to point me in the right direction for the edge protectors??
I was thinking along the lines of the same sort of stuff people fit to the edges of their doors to stop chipping along those edges?? Poss 3m clear wrap for the arch spats?? Or how about 3:1 shrink wrap for the arb, thats what i might put around the rack ends but in clear??
The only other option is keep it as a trailer queen in a carcoon for years to come?? Hmmmmmmm.
(Plus i need to pick your brains about the gearbox again when ya get a few mins??)

- For the ARB I would use some 10-15mm thinwall Silicone tube cut in half and then sleeved over it.
- The track rod ends shouldn't need protecting; what finish are they? Unfortunately clear heat shrink can to go yellow.
- For the bottom of the beam I would use rubber extrusions pushed over the lips http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/shopping.a ... tmentId=68
- For the arches, fuel tank, and leading edge of sump I'd try http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/e ... tion/Film/

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration....UPDATED 22/01/13..
Right another quick update....Beeen busy this four days off and got quite a bit done!!
In the onion bag ready to do as much as i can!! Lol..
Went to Burtons ton retrieve my engine, as my mate has moved to his new house down the road from me so hes gna be building it there instead.
Looked a bit sorry for itself...
Started to strip the whole thing down myself to speed things up a bit...
Then managed to get a bit done tonight with ma pal Martin...
To be fair, i noticed that a few of the main end shells were on their way out, with tiny copper shine to them.
Crank looks good but i aint no engine Guru, thats all gna be my mates job. Im obviously gonna get the crank examined and all new shells etc fitted, then he can look at the rings and bores to see how good they are.
Ready to be taken to the acid cleaner and then my mates....
Apart from that ive managed to refit most of the front, including new arch liners, Brake lines, and all the running framework, new wishbones, ARB drop links i had re passivated, CVs, and the like...Pics are a bit naff as its badly lit near the front arch for some reason and if i use the flash IT BOUNCES BACK !!!
.
Then i refitted all the rear end that had been re powdercoated.....bar the brake setup, added the PDI paint flicks, stickers etc, and then cleaned under the arches because they were quite dusty.
Offered up the rear spare wheel tray....
Cleaned the boot out as its done...
And added the parcel shelf date stamp sticker...Of course!!!
Thats it for now....Im sure ive just smashed the front bearings apart tho, hammering the knuckle down onto the wishbone via the whealnut spigot....so ive gotta replace them with new bearings next week!!!!
Any comments good or bad welcomed....

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration....UPDATED 01/02/13..
Cracking work mate once again! I got the new near side door today from Tom so my panel search is complete. I had to borrow my Dad's car to collect it as it wouldn't fit in "the beast". For some reason 204hp is feeling a bit lack lustre after the 510hp I've started to get used to! Sideways has become the new forward!

Hahaha!!! Quality, and it is a "Beast"!!
At least the panel search is over now eh!!. One less thing to worry about!!!
I got loads done this four days off, so hopefully i can paint the remaining brake lines at work tmrw or sunday and get them fitted then possibly get it rolling in and out of the garage, turn my attention to a bit of interior for a change...(the easy part!!)

You've really done yourself proud there mate.
Just two very minor points, I know the boot tray is rare, but I think the carpet looks smarter and the brake bias valves, I think the bracket is silver not zinc.
Awesome work.

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration....UPDATED 01/02/13..
I was thinking of changing the bias bracket to silver Mark, bit too much gold for my liking.
As for the boot mat, i think it looks good, horses for courses tho i spose, similar to the rear part of the back seats, i had that done in cloth as it looks a bit tidier than the black metal, but ill see if i like the metal again and then use the other ones ive got upstairs...
Thanks tho mate, appreciate it!!

It looks absolutely awesome! I'm not sure if the boot liner would lose you points in concours (as much as I like them) as I think it is a slightly later part than your car. Take it out for the shows.
James - I was a little surprised that the door went in my Focus easier than the Estate though! I'd seriously been considering a C-Class but I don't think it would be practical enough for me as an everyday car. Shame, as I love the engine note of the C63!

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration....UPDATED 01/02/13..
Thanks fellas.
Tom, I will take the boot liner out then if it might loose points, although the sticker on it says 89FB
Coming together nicely now, ive just painted the last of the brake lines so they can go on at some point, and ive just fitted the spare wheel tray cover which looks swish..
Im off for 4 days again, so gna try to get as much done as possible.
Thanks again
