Managed to make up some new Bodykit brackets. :D

These are found on the rear pop off jacking cover recess on the rear arch part of the kit. Normally they are the first part to rust, even when held in with Fords Plastic coated rivets, causing alot of sill failure around where they used to be. (alot of cars dont even have them due to rusting and falling off.)

After a few attempts i managed to copy my old ones to exact sizes complete with the holes that all line up to the sill. I also made these in non rusting alloy so this will erradicate the problems of rusting.

Also cleaned the inside of the kit back to black plastic to get rid of the overspray form the paintshop etc, and thought id add the original worn writing (picking initials from the factory?) that they come with.

Just got a bit of cleaning up around the bracket to do and a little polishing up, then theyre good to go.

The arms are moveable obviously so that they can be easily riveted to the chassis when lining up. Ive also used non rusting rivets and im going to waxoly into the original holes to create a moisture barrier. Finally im going to use zincd small washers slightly larger than the rivet head to eliminate crushing the kit-to body-holes and hopefully this will spread the "pull Stress" caused by the harshness of the rivet head.

Hope ya'll like!! :D

Been fairly busy of late doing a few things.

Fitted up as much inside the bay a i could, ive just got to go fords and get a few jubilee clips to finish a few hoses etc off. But its nearly all together now. Finished the loom and alarm connectors and alll the earth bolts in the inner wings etc then ive fitted the rad and fan etc.

Had a few niggles but its all in now....Gearbox, engine filled with oils, electrics connected, just needs water and exhaust then its "fire the Bic™ up"!!!!!

Image

(Many thanks to Tat2cliff for the donation of a free good intercooler, much appreciated) :Q :Q

Onto the bodykit....

I decided to fit some protective 3m wrap to the arch spats and the underside of the kit in the ares where they always stonechip. I know its not going to be driven alot and i will be using tape etc to shows, but i still wanted to give it a go fitting it...
The stuff i used is very very strong and takes alot to put a hole through it so i had to fit it in sections as it was too tough to stretch around the contours!!!

Front arch

Image

Image

I reckon its come out good first time, just takes a very steady hand with Mr Stanley!!!

Now onto the bodykit.....

Now my car came with pop rivets but i just dont like them. They snap in too hard and try to crush the kit and also theres no control over how hard they go into the plastic and metal.

As the diagram in my ford manual states that these can also be fitted with the same black tappers as in the wheel arch spats i chose to go for that idea.

I managed to find a smaller pan head screw and some plastic screw nuts with a thin circular head. I filed the original holes square with a needle file then waxoiled the holes. I then fitted the square push plugs.

Once the kit was taped in new adhesive tape, i found that the heads were still touch and go as to wether or not they could pull through the plastic holes so i obtained some flat sided washers to fill the oblong shaped hole in the kit and then fitted the screws.....

Image

Image

Image

This makes the whole side of the kit alot easier to remove if i needed to in the future, but still looks factory. I intend to paint the washers and screws grey aswell or just the washer, ill see nerarer the time.

Thats about it for now, just came in for a brew so now im going back into the garage to smoke and fit other side of kit!!!

Any comments welcommed!!! :D :D :D

Well.....shes running!!!!! :Q

Had to charge up the battery for a bit and do my pre-flight checks, and all seemed good!!!

Started it up on 3000rpm for around 10 mins with a socket under the accelerator so i could monitor what was happening!! Ran loudly until the oil circulated and filled the buckets....Then we heard a nasty noise from the engine area....ABORT!! ABORT!!!

Nightmare....Turns out that in my wisdom id only done up the oil feed to turbo pipe union hand tight!!!, and the large drivers side rad hose up hand tight, thus hitting the alternator fan-Belt making the alternator sound horrific.... and then spraying oil and water all over the drivers side of the bay!!!

With the engine shut off, me and my friend had a good tightening and cleaning session then noticed water still dripping from what seemed like the manifold!!! (Turns out that the water feed to turbo banjo on the rear of the turbo wasnt fastened tight enough either!!

So...Reached in and tightened that up, only to see even more water spray out from somewhere. Removed the heatshield to see that.... as i had tightened the water feed, the supply tube had decided to crack (where id fitted an older tube which was pitted in this area) allowing loads of water and antifreeze to spray over the other side of the bay!!! :x

Sooo, off with all the engine bits and bobs and a new water feed tube was fitted, along with another good cleanup. :Q

Finally new leads were fitted as the spunkers for start up were fooked, and another check up!! Then it was run up again and water added as it got to temp. All the pre start up smoke had cleared with just water pellets from the exhaust tailpipe this time. :Q

Shes purring like a kitten now, all it seems ive got to do is rectify an air lock in the system. Then im happy to flush the water out and add new stuff with all the new tanks and hoses etc!!!!

So thats it for the meantime.......Got there in the end!!!!....After all... this is the time for all the niggles to get ironed out. Good job that water feed went now rather than en route to a show etc!!!!

Anyways hope you all enjoy reading my catalogue of FAILS!!!!!   :Q
