RS EDDIE :Julian......Yea shame mate, would av been good to meet ya, tell ya mate cheers!!! :Q

Mark......Thanks....It was 50/50 and i did let myself down on the dust/cleaning side, but given the last minute situation, im happy with what it achieved...as for next.....I think ill settle for a bit (well i did say a bit!!!), the misses has been very patient with me, but ive got my eye on a "last used on the road in 1992" Series one!!!!....Escort Cosworths are just too much money for mint ones at the moment!!! :D

Rob....Thanks mate, and yes...it is the exhaust, that i bought off of you!!! :Q

Edd,

I've seen your car at various stages during the rebuild and can honestly say that I was blown away by the quality of the finished example when I saw it yesterday at FF - stunning would be a real understatement. My mate that was with me at the time said it had to be better than new under the bonnet.

You must be very proud of what you have achieved. You did say you wouldn't mind restoring another Ford and since you haven't got the Series 1 yet, when would you like me to drop my Fiesta RST for you to make start on?

Shame about the slug, I'll lend you some of my pellets for next time :D

Lads.....I appreciate the great comments. :Q

Jay....yes I got it done properly in the end by a firm in Nottingham. Thanks again dude.

James....thanks mate good to see an all round nice fella taking a good interest (and staking some of my new stash away from me!!!!). I'd love to do another one but would get killed by the misses, but any help or popping over to give you a hand then I'm there mate (or just even to get slug pellets!!! Lol.

Sean....Good to meet ya mate thanks for the comments

Michael....many thanks mate, not sure if I met ya on Sunday??

It's not finished completely in my eyes but I'm just being pedantic. After I've tidied the whole house and garden, there's just a few bits to complete (minor) before she goes away for the winter.

Once again, good to meet some of you and obtain help and enthusiasm along the way...

Thanks for the comments once again!!! :D

Was the vin tag on that Rs the one I had a few of ?

I tried to get one stamped up to match my old one but the company retainer group wouldn't entertain it.
They supply there own tags which don't match the original ford ones :(

The car looked awesome Eddie and fair play to you having read about what was involved to get it there on the day.

Can't say I wasn't a little worried that it was going to fall off the axle stands when you were jacking it up whilst I was talking to Kev Murby! To be honest the things that you were picked up on weren't major and easily rectifiable :)

Alan Cox's car is going to be a hard car to beat although it's been on the show scene for years. Alan's done 40 miles in it since it was restored! Personally I think it's much harder to build a concours FRST than an RS 1800, more so if the car has metallic paint. I'd like to see this one alongside Shaun's old car that Kev and Nick built for comparison although I think it is the best concours FRST out there, I've seen cars with 10-12k mileage that aren't anywhere near as good.

The RSOC concours is going to be very competitive next year. There are two white RS 1800s as well, Alan Cox's brothers one and one in the Oxford group although this will need a few things changed on it to bring it up to scratch. For those of you that haven't seen the concours @ RSOC shows, there is significantly more cars involved and standards in terms of the cars and judging is much higher.

Postby RS EDDIE on Wed Aug 14, 2013 10:01 pm

Cheers Jon...It was tucked away a bit to be fair!!! :D

Thanks Tom for the kind words. :D

To be honest i didnt really noticed how precarious it looked on the axle stands until later in the day!!...It was a bit "Tipping to one side"

Ive recently got hold of a judging sheet which is a great tool as it breaks down the points of how they mark the cars..
(previously i didnt have anything like this so was entering it a bit blind!), but now i can at least do a sort of snagging list, working my way through the car getting it ready in good time before a show, so i can just turn up and not have to worry what parts i havent gotten into with the ol rags and dusters etc!!

Agreed Alans car will be very hard to beat, but im sure i can improve mine a bit furtherand get that tiny bit closer to the other cars which will be on show next year.

One thing i know that i will lose points on is the underside: I dont have the primered middle effect on my underside, as originally i wanted it uniform and all grey whereas from the factory it would have been looking as though it had overspray fading out in the middle of the underside to the primer colour. I could redo the underside to this effect but not sure if its worth the hassle, but like i say it could be done, but in a few months etc if i can get the space.

This is another factor in these rebuilds....If one is lucky enough to have a large garage with a four poster etc then it could be achieved, but i havent got the space to do this as of yet ( my garage is only 4m x 6m ) but im lucky to have this, so it may have to stay this way, especially if re-doing the underside wouldnt make alot of difference in the long run where points are concerned.

Ill have to enter a few RSOC shows and see how it fairs there and get some feedback before entertaining the idea!!

But again its a learning curve and only one that can be improved upon with time.

Good to chat to you tho, even if i seemed miles away, trying to get the car done in time for judging!!! :D :D

I knew and could see you were busy. I normally get to go and look at the concours cars towards the end of a show as I am normally trading, whereas that time of the day everyone is busy getting their cars ready for judging.

I think the category that your are in will have a bearing on how well you do and where you are placed with regard the RSOC shows. It will be post 81' but are you going to be in the Novice, Intermediate (slightly modified), Standard or Expert (Trailored) category?

I wouldn't worry about the paint unless you get to the stage where it is making the difference between a 1st / 2nd place. If you've got the tools and space it's always a huge advantage, although if I had a car like that I'd be quite happy to just stand back and admire it!
