RS EDDIE :Yes mate did it by myself with a compressor, rollover jig, 8 tins of rubberised underseal, 2 tins of zinc paint, 2 bottles of Kurust, 2L of merc grey and 1L of 2k laquer. :D

Yes ill look out for that servo. I managed to find a rust free undented one and tcut then moped it. Came out like a mirror!!! :Q

cool, had mine at the MOT the other day and as i know the guys i was having a good look underneath it thinking id love it to be done!

so originally i take it the basecoat was sprayed over the underseal??

No mate!!!!! :o

The original ford underseal is oil based and to get a good key, i took a week every day to heat the original stuff off with a heat gun and scraper to take it back to the original primer.
It was then sanded back to find any flaking orig primer, then the spots of surface rust were treated with Kurust. After this the whole underside was zinc painted to bite into the metal and to provide a good tough finish for the rubberised underseal to go ontop of in 3 coats!!!!

THEN...It was basecoated and laquered. If you paint onto the original stuff it will not adhere properly and will come off straight away. :o

Jay is right: the standard stuff is technically over-paintable. It's porous though so once its been waxed over it's doubtful you'd ever get paint to stick.

I painted the wheel arches one one of my cars and it lasted without any flaking.

Mate you cant really beat powdercoating......

Ive whacked some stuff with a hammer before and it hasnt even chipped off. Rattle can-ing stuff simply does not last and flakes off within weeks of road use.

Thanks for the comments tho pal!!! :D

I have made a few changes to the shocks now.

1) I wasnt happy without the original style ford stickers not being present.
2) I thought that the colour coded circles were a bit in your face, so ive toned them down a bit to a slightly smaller size.

New smaller circles on the left, old larger circles on the right.

Thats better!!! :Q

Hahaha!!! Do i dense a bit of tongue in cheek humour going on here???

No im nothing to do with Fords chaps. I appreciate all the comments tho!!!

Im just very very fussy and i will go to stupid lengths to get things right. The way i see it, if a jobs worth doing then ill try to do it to the best of my ability. Having owned the car for many years, ive gained alot of friends in the trades and previously working for Burton Power helps aswell.

I tend to take things apart and rebuild stuff alot as im very inquisitive as to how things are assembled and how they work.

YES i do have a social life aswell, which includes going down to the local library wearing my anorak, and looking at books on how a screwdriver is made!! :D
