Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration....Stage 1 of Paint.
Yes mate I have managed to get even them ones!!!!
Im unsure wether to fit them or not as they tend to lose colour rather quickly. I think these were added instead of the rubber bumpstops fitted to the holes that were in the boot bottom corners on earlier models to stop boot movement.
No real updates at the min as the painter had to go to a wedding at the weekend. Im going back down there on monday maybe!!!
I saw a wing that was painted by my fella whos doing mine. It was for a golf gti....If mine ends up like that then im gna be chuffed as it was like he'd poured a layer of water over it!!!!!!

Dave. They do everything. It goes into its own spot, is viewed and worked on by a fabricator and panel prepper. Then it gets passed onto the painter. All of them work around eachother, and when its their turn to do their bit, they take over from the other bloke.
They even take pictures as the progress comes on and email them to you.

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration....Stage 1 of Paint.
Your right Mark, they dont really do alot...
Anyways time for a small update. Bit hard to do anything at the minute.....
Been messing around with that fkin gearbox for an age now , but its finally coming together. Heated the 5th gear up with some mapp gas and the cog just fell onto the shaft so thats all good. Cleaned it up again and gave it several coats of primer, ready for the final colour....Which im not 100% on atm, so im gna get some opinions first.
Gearbox in primer....
And with my Carved wooden Penis ashtray i bought...
Few light coats of the (sort of) final colour...
Let me know your thoughts on the box colour. The light makes it seem a bit darker than it is for some reason....
I wanted it quite close to a cast finish and not blingy silver. The bolts will stay orig blue colour and im not sure what to do with the casing bolts....maybe black with blue flecks, or all blue aswell.....but they wont be staying the same colour as the finished box.
Managed to finalise the tyre stickers aswell, got them printed onto paper instead of gloss sheet as this would have been a closer match.
Anyway thats it for now....Next the Turbo and manifold ....Just gotta source some POR 15 from frost or the like for the manifold and casing!!!
Fanx

The box colour does appear quite dark like you say and it has almost glossy look to it not a matt colour that they are like fresh from factory. Still looks very nice though

Cheers mate....
Yeah....think i might try and get some matt grey from somewhere. Most car paints are sort of a silky finish tho, so ill have to try and see what i can get to 2nd coat the box...

The colour does look a tad dark mate, but either way it still looks superb!
The filler bung should be black BTW.

The circular bung near the reverse light sensor hole, it has a female allen key socket on the end.

As others have said, maybe the gearbox is a tad dark, but might just be how the camera is making it look

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration... Updated...
Jay...I was gna fully strip it and have the parts p.coated.
But some alloy metals like the bellhousing coat well but the heat displacement causes bubbles in the actual coating so i was advised against it. Not only that coating it would give a plastic look to the casing which i didnt want.
The paint i used hasnt bonded very well with the primer and is taking ages to go off. Vapour blasting will give a fresh new look to the casing. Look on google at 'I kleenz macheenze' ( ICM) website and see the results of vapour blastic......well impressive!!!

i dont think heat would of been much problem myself (but prob wrong) but i see what ya mean about the plastic look it would give, so thats fair enough.
blasting is always good, and it will bring it up looking like new, but what do you plan to do to it after to protect it? other wise it will start to corrode and go white and powdery

Re: Fiesta RS Turbo Restoration... Updated...
Ill get some silicon based spray that you can wipe over the box that dries so it repels water and ant rust etc.
My old dears box ( pardon the pun!!!)..isnt treated and im not so sure wether its got the make up in the metal to corrode like an alloy wheel does for example.
I think that happens when you paint over alloy and the water gets in-between the lacquer and alloy then festers under it, as it cannot dry.
I might be wrong but i will find out before i take it.
