I think u should just buy one from kent and send it back to the shop you bought it from lol na seriously at least they offered you something at the end of the day its out of guarantee

I did fit a kent to a friends s2 with the proper springs but i did fit a stage 3 hybrid at the same time and its been nothing but greif since i fitted it the hybrid went funlumps up first then i think the cam fooked up the lifters so a just took it out

Get yourself a standard Ford cam mate, They are good for upto 250bhp ish I believe.

Most of the Kent/Piper/Newman cams gains are at the top end of the rev range, the Ford cam is generally far better lower down the range,

So 90% + of all your driving will be improoved by fitting one, Thats what I'd do.

mike, that i can belive, i think the springs are too hard really.

shaun, totally agree with ya, the power from my std cam was great and i miss it now ive driven the rs with a kent, as i dont really see anything better out of it.
that said, i only just finihsed running the engine in when it went, so it was never cained.

and ford dont sell them no more, other wise i would have one for sure.

you got 1 or 15 floating around in your spares box

Humm sorry to hear the inevitable news jay.. bit concerning for myself as im running cvh35, not done many miles on it but been in car for 3 years.. :oooh:

Must say id be abit concerned as to the potential reasons why it has worn so quick, i know your suspecting it's due to poor quality cam material but what are Kent saying? oil starvation is the cause of the wear? And what about the worn off material from the cam is this still floating around the engine :o As im sure we've discussed before jay when you frist install the cam kit there is very specific instructions with regards to running the cam in, which for a fresh engine is abit daunting but it's so important to carry out this procedure or unfortunately premature wear is inevitable.. :(

yeah thats what there saying, but others have had cams wear out, repalced them and never had a problem, some even with other kent ones, so you tell me mate.

they also said it could be due to toher things, basicly in short without saying it, it could be anything bar the cam...

the engine will be stripped and cleaned out before its run again mate.

i ran the cam in the car for a few years mate, was only on the 3rd trip to fordfair it started to go, in fact it was on the way home, so it had covered about 1000 miles bofore i noticed a sound difference which is when it must of started to go, and oil pressure was fine as i was driving at the time, i would of thought, if it had been due to not being bedded in or something not done when fitted, it whould of shown up on a earlier trip to fordfair.
i still say the cam is to blaim, but how can i prove it when they say its not, ah well, $hit happens at end of day

newmans will grind me a cam to ford standard spec too, will have to use there followers but can use std ford springs, its not cheap, it would work out not much less than a uprated one (about £320 with the postage)

piper never got back to me, will email again next week

I put a Piper 285T2, Kent CVH 34 and a Newman PH4 side by side when I bought my Newman. The Newman felt 'heavier' and looks better quality by eye.

well i deffo wont get another kent one, thats for sure.

so its between piper and newman, there seems to be good and bad with all (like evrything really) but i want std profiles or as close to std as poss, so its between piper and newman (unless i bite the bullet and just go pattern) but if pipe dont get back to me again then it will be a newmans one, if piper do, i will see what they offer then decide, but based on whats been posted and what ive read along with personal choice, newman stands in front at the mo

I'v heard good things about newman. To be honest if you ask them to make you a standard one they should be able to without much trouble as I would have thaught they would already have all the dimensions and maybe even a program they could run up on the cnc already.

I am very surprised by whats happened with kent as they are so well known for producing cams for all kinds of cars. oh well dont judge a book by its cover i guess.

your always get parts fail no matter who makes them, some down to poor quality, some down to misuse, but for me, i didnt misuse the cam, and going by what ive heard off some others nor did they, so i honestly reckon it was a bad batch, but a compnay like kent is never going to admit that as it opens the door to claims from others, so its easier to pass the buck, and lets face it, every compnay will pass the buck when they can to save a claim.

as for newmans, yes thay can grind me a cam to std spec, ive already asked, im not really in a hurry for one at the mo as i have to save some money for a new kit, so untill i got the money im still listening to anything people wish to share about newman and piper etc.

The Newman RS Turbo CVH cam is a very similar profile to standard, Jay.

Also a thing to note, in some case the cam can be fine, it's the cheap, Chinese/Eastern European lifters which are supplied with the kits. I'm 99% sure that even Kent and Piper import and don't make their own followers. If these start to fail, it doesn't matter how good the camshaft blank is, the cam will be ruined. Newman started to produce a hydraulic follower Camshaft but stopped production as the great quality cams were ripping the cheap, imported lifters to bits.

Someone must make them to a high standard thaugh. I guess you could always go down the road of getting a custom cam set up from the likes of cosworth or some other motorsport development company couldn't you but you would have to have rather deep pockets.

as far as the kent one goes, i havent been in contact with kent for a while, and nor have i contacted the ebay shop i got it from, tbh, i see very little point now so have dropped it altogether, although i should really contact kent to get the onld one sent back, if theres any point......

Re: fiesta rs turbo, decided now

Postby jayrs on Fri Apr 22, 2011 2:32 pm

after a lot of thinking and looking to whats on offer, i have now decided i will go with a newmans cam.
i really dont fancy a cheap pattern one, so newmans is the next best thing as they will grind me one to std spec.

so im saving for the cam, and in the mean time, will be buying up new gasket sets and head bolts, and the engine will be coming out soon for a strip down and clean out.

i got many new bits still to fit also, such as new rocker arms, cam belt tentioner, new oil pump etc, so all the new bits are going on and fingers crossed this time round the cam will last and not wear out.

tappets will be mechincal as i have to use the newmans ones to get the warranty on the cam, i have taken on board the things said bout newmans and the tappets and i thank you all for your input about the different cams etc, and although i would sooner use normal tappets, the way i look at is, if the mechnical ones need checking and adjusting yearly (bear in mind i' hope to do between 1000 and 1500 a year) then so be it, if i owed a 1.1 i would adjust tappets on a HSC yearly as part of the service anyway, so i will just look at it as a part of the annual service on the RS now.

will prob look at starting to take the engine out over the next week or 2, clark is getting a flywheel skimmed for me on the mainland (as its cheaper) and bringing it over for me at the end of the month when he comes over along with all sorts of little bits and bobs ive been getting him to order me

head gasket set is going to be a payen one, for those that dont know, payen make the head gasket for fords anyway, different being is, head gasket from payen is £24 from ford, its about £60, and im not anal enough to want a "ford" stampled on it for the extra money, besides, the head gasket set (minus the bolts) works out to about £46 inc the vat and comes with eveything, so more saving if you compair to fords.
i have new bottom end gaskets and seals all in stock anyways.

CVH head bolts are all the same so there just be pattern part ones for about £15.

i also still have to look into the rear brakes, im unsure if you get refurbed calipers for the disc i got, fit the rs2k stuff i got, or go back to drums, what ever way i choose, its going to cost something and involve time, although if i get new calipers for the kit i got, i could sell the rs2k set up which would cover 80% if not all the cost of recon rear calipers...

as for when it will be done, i really dont know, ill get the engine out, stripepd cleaned, and built back up, minus the cam shaft, and get it all bolted back into the car and back together so all it will need engine wise when the time comes, is the cam slipped in and timed up, but i dunno when ill have the money for the cam yet, and this will effect if i will be at fordfair in it.
i plan to be at ford fair, but it might mean worse case i roll up in the family wagon - ford galaxy

anywhow, enough crap, i know everyone likes a pic, so heres a few from when i took a load for the agreed valuation back in jan :) and one as as it stands now (after i took the kent cam out)

oi  , tbh, im gunna stick with the mondeo ones i think, few reasons, 1, i already got them and refurbed them, just need painting, which i got all the paint etc.
2, i do like them on the mk3 and think they suit it
3, i havent found anything else i like 100% yet

so the mondeo wheels will go on, the 15's that are on it now will go on the xr2 when i have money for tyres for the mondeo ones

i know there a love hate thing, and i hate the fact there more common than ever, but i do like them, so to hell with it, i like it, i'll have it
untill i find something better anyway

the voodoos are nice i must say, im not a fan of black wheels really but they do suit some cars, and wheels choice also, and voodoos in black on a red fez, yeah, im feeling it, but not for me.
my main problem with wheels is i want 16 and no bigger, and when i find a style i really like, and i mean really do like! there not in 16's :(

looking at the speedos, the kent cam lasted 1169.8 miles, well, in fact it was less

im hoping it will be a good choice, if the cam fcuks up again then im done with it, which is another reason for choosing newmans over a cheap cam
