na i didnt maind mate.

got the new head gasket set today, and a pack of head bolts.
clark has been over for a few days so also bought some bits over for me which iv'e been getting him to get me, oil filter, valve springs that sort of $hit.

still not touched the rs yet (reasons i wont get into) but hopfully should crack on and get the engine out soon, just gotta get a crank seal housing gasket (or if i can find my gasket paper ill make one) and get the flywheel skimmed and thats everything for the bottom end sorted as i got the rest, bought or had in stock, like 2 sump gaskets new in the packs in the shed

apart from the cam kit, which i hope to get within the next month or so if i can raise enough money, i will get some new rocker studs, and although the cam belt has only done just under 1200 miles i will replace it for a new one and thats the top end all sorted.

still gotta get oil, but im looking at what different ones there are around as im gunna change to a different make and grade i think.

before anyone asks about fordair, yes i will be there, but, i want to get the cam kit in and running and get at least a couple hundred miles on it before fordfair, if i cant, then im not bringing the RS.
thats all, no pics as i cant be arsed to unload everything for a pic right now

right then update time, not many pics, and what i have is boring.

anyway, spent some time out there in the garage today stripping everything off and now the engine is ready to be dropped, bar the drive shafts still being connected.

rebuilt the gear linkage this evening and found the rubber isolator part is split :( i got 2 or 3 spare linkages about so i could rob one from them, but i have the part number for a new one thansk to tom, and clark dont know it yet as he wont answer me on msn (to busy beating one out i expect  ) but he will get me a price for a new one tomorrow and if its not a pull your pants down and leave you like a prison shower rape victim, sort of price, i shall buy a new one.

spare flywheel has been skimed, its not a crack or anything you see on the face, the guy sliped with the file while de-buring the inner and out edge, and its just a mark, cant even feel it so its all good.

flywheel wise, one of the locating lugs were broken on the spare flyhweel and another snapped while removing it, but i drilled them out and sorted it, but the mounting pins are not a serviced part by ford so i will machine some up on the lathe in the week, and prob make enough for another flywheel and have 3/4 spares to put in the tool box amoung the rest of the $hit that will never be used

more parts arrived today, cheers againt to clarky boy for ordering them up for me, and cheers to jon for collecting them for me at FITP :)
picking up a new cam and alternator belt in the morning, and if i can decide what oil im going with once rebuilt i'll get some of that tomorrow and its just the cam to get later on when i have the cash.

all being well and as time allows, the engine will be taken to the workshop, i shall strip, clean it and rebuilt it and get it back in next weekend (thats the plan anyway).

one job i have got to do though is drill the oil gallery plugs out as i rounded a them a bit last time and i know they wont come out easy this time round, i hope they do, but i think i got more chance of walking to the moon after cutting off my legs!!
i got replacement plugs from ford, but for the cost i wouldnt bother again, bloody expensive grub screws   but its easier than removing one then going to get some the same, too much hassle that way.

anyhow, some boring pics for ya, not got any of the bag of parts as i cant be arsed to lay it all out right now

£44 for a new part, too rich for my blood right now, so i had a look round the workshop and found my 2 spare linkages, one was split worse than mine, and the other had a small split in it, on closer inspection the part where its split does matter as its just thin rubber.
im using the one with the small split in the thin rubber, and the rotation movment is less than the one i took off so good enough for me.

engines out, i opted not to remove the drive shafts from the hubs nor the gear box so i dropped it all in one, had i had the 3 roller bearing inner cv joints i would of popped them out but i get ball bearing ones, i could of sworn i had 3 roller type, no matter

gear linkage got a fresh coat of paint this evening cos it was covered in red spray dust, like most stuff under the car, you can see it on the gear box craddle too, but i got a poweder coated one im gunna bung on there.

engines out the workshop with all the parts, i will be out there tomorrow to start on it, getting it back in over the weekend is now out as i will be busy with a couple of other things, but next week i hope to have it back in there.
i will be repainting a lot of bits due to the red over spray everywhere too so it will take a tad longer before shes back on her wheels

I have got avo's on my Si, and i would actually big them up. They are alot softer ride compared to my old Spax shocks and springs setup I had.

Jay might have a difference of opinion to mine though :)

i use my impact gun to remove hub nuts - beat out cv joint from hub then take bottom ball joint out to get shafts out of box. Use a old cv joints to block up box from losing oil its oil.

job done :D

i agree, i find them spot on :)

clark, as you know, my normal thing is to take the cv joint out, but this time i saw no point.
think about it, what dismantiling have i done extra?

cv joint out or not, the bottom ball joint still has to come off, the track rod end still needsa to come off....

all ive done is removed the drop link and brake line bracket and undone the top shock bolt, eaiser than fcuking about with hub nuts (which would mean i need to spend out about a tenner getting 2 more) and i havent had to pi$$ arse about beating shocks out the hubs.

and as i said to you on the phone last night, i cant be doing with popping cv joints out the box just for gearbox oil to pi$$ out all over the show then having to top it up again, its just un necessary ball ache.

when refitting, i may well pop the drive shafts out of the inner cv (not the gearbox) i will see how i feel at the time.
also as the shocks are out, i can fit the new rubber donuts back in as i swaped them for the old pair to try and trace a annoying noise few years back, and never got round to refitting the new ones back on, so the shocks would be coming off anyway

track rod ends dont need to come out for engine removal
hub nuts dont cost a tenner
by removing the shocks from the hubs you may need to redo your tracking once car is back on its wheels by disturbing them.

you know the easiest way is hub nuts and shafts out.

what you been smoking.... you dont need to teach me how to suck eggs.

you cant remove the hubs from the car with the track rod ends connected.... you might leave them hanging on the shocks (or even the track rod ends), but i dont
and you dont need to redo the tracking when you pop the track rod ends out the hub housing

hub nuts wont cost you a tenner, they prob would me, last lot were about £2 each but with the speed ford prices go up i reckon they got to be around a fiver each by now, but i havent checked
anyway, you missed the point of why i dropped it all as i did

it will yes mate, i had wanted it on the road for the start of may but it wasnt gunna happen.
the start of june dont look like its gunna happen too as i got so much to pay out, got tax on the wifes galasy end of may, MOT and insurance on the escort first week in june, and the tax on the escort at the end of june   bloody cars

but yes mate, i wanna get it on the road asap, cos as i said to the wife, if i havent got at least 100 miles on the new cam before ford fair, im not taking it to fordfair.
100miles dont sound a lot but it is when your on thr isle of wight,

i know, shocking, although today hasnt been as plain sailing as it should of been , kicked a pot of degresser and it showered my overalls and soked through to my trousers, picked the thinners up and then it dropped from about a foot up and splashed up me, my pump sprayer i got for rinshing didnt worked so i opened the water hole up and not the c**t sprays all the time and you can stop it  and coupled with the fact ive had a headache none stop for the last 3 weeks and today it was banging it made for a good day, :(

anyway, engines stripped, got one oil blaning plug out the other 2 were drilled out, block is cleaned and degreased, the inside of the sump is degreased but will be done again once its all preped up as i forgot to paint round the fitting i brazed in last time.

the $hit in the very bottom of the sump was nice, wiped a bit out with some tissue and found a magnet would attract it    found the rest of the kent cam then :bonkers:

anyhow, the good news is the crank is completely fine and all the bigs and mains are still good too, so happy days so far.
just some random pics i took as i was fcuking off, and yes, i have repainted the block a different colour, its only its first coat though.

also, didnt make any locating pins up for the flywheel as they all came out my old one so i will use them and make some up for the other flywheel another time

thats the oil return mate, cut a 3mm thick plate, drilled it, brazed that on then put the fitting in and brazed that in.
the 3mm plate was put in to make it stronger, i'll get a close up pic tomorrow, it looks like theres loads brazed but its just where it spread out mate.

will be putting another in as the sumps off for oil temp, ive decided to take the oil temp from the sump not from the sandwich plate

Looking good jay, glad you haven't got any bottom end damage as a resolt of the bits.. what's the cylinder head itself like? has this suffered any damage or is it serviceable.. Fitted one of them magnetic sump plugs on mine last week as a mater of course, seem very good, very strong magnet can't hurt i thought :) ..

You can also get magnets that stick on to the oil filter, which are also a good idea.
