todays update

got my new number plates through the post

Image

unfortunatly my show plates have a slight mistake, on there part

Image

there sending me replacments though.
got a good deal with them, a pair of plates legal etc, buy it now, £7.49 plus £2.49 postage, and extra, 1p postage for each extra pair, so both sets cost me £17.48 :)

free plug for the place that done the plates

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Wicked-Custom-Plates

next through the door was my alloy wheel centre badges

i fitted one to be square but it twisted as i smoothed it on :( so i done them all at the same angle

Image
Image

right, with the aid of the hair dryer warming the bumper before spraying i got the finish i wanted on the bumper, but not was all so well when demasked

Image
Image
Image

think it was the combination of prob too much paint and crap masking tape, but it was the only inch tape i had, not sure what im gunna do to get round it though but ill work it out

Image

also in post today came the spacers i asked for in gen.

there for the handbrake cable on my rear disc's, the standard spacers are too long and i can only get one fitted which is what is causing the caliper on the passanger side to play up on the handbreak (that one didnt have spacer) but these are shorted so should do the job nicly.
the other bits at the top in bag was also made for me but there for the xr2 front tie bar

big thanks to Lex_Mk4 for making them for me, and also thanke to the other people that ofefred to make them also :)

Image

spolier was also treadted to some black, for those that dont know or remember i had the black bit on my spolier painted red years ago, and now i fanced the black back

Image

its just sat on at min

Image

and lastly wax

although the update doesnt show ive done much theres been a fair bit of pi$$ing about today, mainly with the bumper and getting the paint to dry without blooming again, and sorting that reaction out which kept happing :x

anyway, belive it or not i used over 2 litres of wax today

Image

i the underseal gun to take a pipe that i made up so the wax sprayed out all round, well top and bottom and both sides

Image
Image

then came the waxing, i have to say, my sills and rear arches are fine and rust free and i plan to keep them that way! :bonkers:

passanger door

Image

passanger rear panel

Image
Image

drivers door

Image

drivers rear panel

Image
Image

boot was done with what was left but it soon ran out so the left over wax was beat out and brushed on, and i also done some with rattle can wax

Image

think i over did it :bonkers:

Image

random shot with car demasked

Image

i also modded the new indicators for bumper to fit today as well as the replacemt spot lights, managed to pull the glass off one spot light, and bust the glue on one indicator  still out will come the clear silicon to sort that :)

not working on it saturday as im walking with my kids in the carnival, there all dressed as people from wizard of oz, me and my dad have got to drag 7 foot of yellow carpet which my dads made look like the yellow brick road

still back on it sunday all being well when i hope to start the compounding, lets hope my luck continues as i wanna get it done :)

yet again been out working on her today.
starting to take its toll on me know and im starting to get a bit pi$$ed off, mainly with breathing fumes from everything, im coming home every night feeling like $hit and have a headache all the time :(

still, started the compounding today, well due to the area it was painting in the paint had inperections in so they have been flatted out, the roof and boot lid are ready for a good mopping now.
i havent started on the bonnet yet due to the fact i went through the piant last time and dont really wanna touch it but im gunna have to so that will come tomorrow, the rest of the car is alright though :)

looks like im gunna have to get the touch up gun out again on that front bumper, i fear getting that black off will damage the red paint of the bumper, again a job for tomorrow :(

in all the odds and sod i been doing today i removed the heater and matrix, not happy though, thought i put the jubille clips on in a way i could get to them easy, seems i thought wrong :x still after a few f's and c's and puicking tools up from under the car a few times i won and get it out, finished sealing the bulk head line so tomorrow its ready for the sound deading to be put on the bulk head and the heater re fitted

also took loads of bits over, black carpet, door panles etc etc although i should of held fire on them as im running out of space

oh, and i craxcked the tyre black out today and painted the tyres, had to to comer bits of over spray etc, didnt smell good, made me feel sick but looks good.

only picks from today

thats it for today, thinking of pulling a all nighter monday, soild 36 hours work on it as i have a fear it wont be finished in time unless i do

Re: fiesta rs turbo rebuild update 18/7, more progress

Postby jayrs on Mon Jul 21, 2008 11:03 pm

the work today was bitty, got a bit done but not enough to justify the day, but i spent half the time bloody looking for little bits and bobs, like the drivers side door loom, spent half hour searching for it just to find i hadnt stripped the old drivers door down (which was in the other room) so i had to strip that.
it throw me though, i had 2 e/w mechs on the side, which made me think i had stripped it, on closer inspection i clocked they were both passanger ones which made me look at the old drivers door    :bonkers:

anyway, fitted the doors up with c/l and e/w and all the little clips and what not (after i found them) and then went to finish it off by clicking the door look into the door

only to find it didnt fit!

the drivers door i have fitted is from a H reg and mines a J, it seems fords changed the door looms, and its not as you think.
i always though ford done the early sort, i.e e/w swithes in centre console and later set e/w switches in door pockets, but no, seems there are 3 types.

the 2 i say above, then another one which is bigger.
yep the holes in the drivers door, and the passanger, were bigger than the plastic part on the door loom meaning i couldnt clip them in, not happy!

after looking for it, i found the door loom from the passanger door i got from scrapy.
ok it just had speaker wires in it but i wanted the plastic end clips

i fitted the bigger clip to one of my door looms, and modded the other clip to fit the door (had to trim it) and fitted that to the other door loom and job done, they both fit and clip in really well and easy so thats that job done, but all that took some time belive it or not :x

boot mech is in with all the boot wiring, gas strut etc

fitted the bulk head sound deading also and re fitted the heater box and matrix

few other odds and sods done today and looking for bits and some preping etc, but i didnt get done what i wanted to (but done other things so not wasted time) so wasnt worth doing the all nighter tonight but its coming

got father inlaw helping with compounded tomorrow and my dads gunna pop up too sometime after lunch to lend hand too

im gunna try and get more bits fitted like the dash and carpet etc tomorrow, the more it starts to look like a car again the better i feel.

oh i also removed the turbo timer today  , sorry jon i know ive been saying i would take it out for ages but its out now and in my shed with that cam, and the clutch is in my xr2 :)

looking good jay, u want some 'fine line tape' when u mask up the bumper to paint th black
the normal masking tape is no good as it allows the paint to seep under as u found out :x

i got some rolls of that fine line tape, tbh its a load of $hit, dont stick very well and dones bend/flex like masking tape.
its good for going in a line but a slight bend, forget it.

mind you i did er, borrow it from my last job when i built wind turbins

the masking tape done ok everywhere else, and its done alright on all the other bits, mind you that said mate i was using 3M masking tape for all that, i only used the cheaper stuff for bumper  guess i should of bought more as im paying for it now

just had a phone call (8.45am) from ford to say my bits are in that i ordered yesterday which is good.
now to to a job i havent been looking forward to, i have to replace one of the rubber pads/seals on the top hat of the rear shock.
i know its a easy top, ive done it more times that i can rememebr, but my car have avo coil overs on, and i get the feeling the spring platform aint gunna move :( and spring compressors aint gunna do much    , still i have never been beating (touch wood) on anything on a fiesta in my life and it aint gunna start now :bonkers:

Hi,

Did I read you needed a windscreen rubber? I got a spare one if you want it... I work right next to the IOW ferry port in Lymington if that's any good or i'm going to Ford Fair and Trax.

But car looks good mate, much more complete than mine  mine won't make ford fair but aiming to have it ready for Trax ideally.

Keep up the good work,

cheers dude

need to play with the boot lid a bit to get it to line up, well it is lined up but the gaps round the lights dont match, not that ive ever seen a few with 2 lights with same gaps with a in line boot lid   , still a bit of adjustment here and there should see it a bit better

whats peoples thoughts on the rear lights? everyone goes foreuro ones and some tint the reverse light out out red, my plan has always been to get a uk spec one to have 2 reverse lights, well one will be a fog but you see where im coming from.
i think it looks mint :Q

nice work Jay, starting to come together now - still a lot to do though by the looks of it, you've certainly had your work cut out!

I like the twin reverse lights, bit different from the norm

lights look really good. I'd like to do something like that with two reverse lights or just red tint the other one out (if thats legal  ). Not sure, definately want to tint that indicator strip abit though cos I dont like orange against white paint work, looks sheite!!

Nothing on Fiesta's lines up right mate! My bonnet doesnt line up at the front right (only slightly out but I know its there). the back bumpers got a bit of a gap between that and the bootlid, the front bumper I dont even really wana talk about!

cheers guys,

the rear lights are not tinted, there proper smoked indicators  uk RS one and euro RS one, most get euro ones and tint the reverse light out to have it look like 2 forgs, and yes its legal, you dont "have" to have a reverse light so im told as it dont come in the MOT.

i used to have 2 reverse lights anyway too mate, had 2 since about 99

as for things not lining up, the boot lid was played with today and it lines up 95% so im happy with that, i know it will never be right, i think thats why ford change it to 2 gas strusts of less power as the one on mk3's is strong and it does seem the drivers side of the mk3 boot lids never seem to fit as well as the passanger side so im putting it down to that, can see what else it could be really.

the lights on the other hand, well, im gunna to file the holes out a bit ore and make them bigger than just the slots that are there, i think then i could get more adjustment on them to line them up a bit better although they will never be right, they never are

also ive been told i bang on too much about non worthy updates but do i look bothered :bonkers:

bonnet is finished just got to wax it tomorrow.
boot lid is complete bar the spolier, glass in etc, number plate on etc, once im happy with the way the lights are i will bung on the decals etc

roof lining was dropped so the sunroof hingdes could be put back in, waxed all round the sunroof lip too.
got out a old head lining (i have 3) and started to recover it, but gave up to get on with other things as it was looking to take to much time trying to get it all smoothed etc but if i dont get it finihed i have the one that came out to put back in

more updates as and when, sorry no pics from today

well some good news and some bad :(

good news is, the windscreen went in today :)

the bad news is it has to come out again, right at the last i broke the screen
first time EVER ive broken a screen putting one in and i forget how many times ive done them on cars, whats pi$$ed me off the most is the fact i put a brand new sun srip on, i know some people love them others hate them, clark made his thoughts known when on phone to be today, 90's, c@hvy, $hit were just some of the words he used  , but i am used to a top tint in the xr2 and i used to have a red (more orange  ) one before so wanted black one this tiem, anyway that went on lovely, first time fitting screen the string fell out so had to remove it when it was 3/4 fitted :x then second time, snap :x :x

i spend 5 mins out side beating $hit out of a old bonnet and a tree got some abuse too, but i came in and over a fag i looked at it, laughed and carried on with something else
oh well, im more pi$$ed off that ive wasted a sunstrip, i have 1 screen in stock spare but i dunno what its like, but at some point i want to refit a heated one, but you never know, might leave the cracked one in, i will have windscreen cover :bonkers:
na it prob wont pass mot so thats gotta be done.

anyway enough of that crap, headlining was put in, sound deading, carpet, dash, centre consol and so on.
rear panels, parcle shelf supports and all the seats should be in by 10 in the morning tomorrow, then i can then test everything still bloody works and that the car will still start

lods more odds and sods done today too, lot of time was spent cleaning stiff, windscreen had red over spray on it and so did the speedo :-?

anyhow, random pics from today, but this is not how it was left tonight, just a pic taken when i could be arsed

bugger!
