Hi Jay, just wondered where you got that sun strip from?
I like it, it's smaller than the others, more subtle and less in ya face

Re: fiesta rs turbo, ready for ford fair at last
hi mate.
i got it from ebay fella, it was fairly wide to start with, but i put it where i wanted it and trimmed the rest off.
it was easier for me as the screen was out, but shouldnt be too differcult with the screen in tbh, just a case of over lapping the rubber and trimming it.
i did meassure and mark the windscreen with perm marker pen to ensure i got it level though

I've been looking on eBay but you've got to be careful as they put up a pic of a nice curved sunstrip and then they end up being straight
I noticed on here that you can have problems with sunstrips come MOT time due to size and it obscuring your view i geuss, any ideas on this?

Re: fiesta rs turbo, ready for ford fair at last
mine was straight im sure, but it curves when put on.
mot can be a problem, thing is it depends how far down the windscreen it comes, i only put mine to come down a tiny bit, so basicly if its out of the wiper spread it passes mot.

they do indeed mate, but it has passed 2 mot's like it with no problems.
i guess it comes down to how anal the guy doing the mot wants to be??
if you had it so it didnt get touched by wiper blades, there wouldnt be much point having it
mind you, you could put it on the insde, or fit smaller wiper arms for the mot

Re: fiesta rs turbo, ready for ford fair at last
thats cool mate, i belive mine was about a fiver too.
im thinking of getting a top tint windscreen nextr, but if i dont and go for a plan heated one i might look to put the strip on the inside of the next one if i can.
might be worth looking into mate, as the wipers wont touch it you might be better off that way...???

yeah maybe, there's nothing really in the way either, only the mirror but its not really a problem. I think the wiper spread is just a rule of thumb though as i think what they are most bothered about it restricting your view, but who knows its pot luck if you ask me

Re: fiesta rs turbo, shes out in the opne again LOL
dont time fly, seeing as the RS hasnt been driven for getting on for 10 months now i though i would check on the MOT, runs out 1st agust so shes in for MOT in the morning, she will pass with no problems i know that, shes only covered a massive 326 miles since the last MOT, and 85% of them miles was going to ford fair and back in 2009
even though it doesnt look like it, shes need a clean and a wax, and the engine bay need a wipe down to get it all sorted for ford fair, which i will be doing at tghe start of august.
dont think she had fully woken up, after getting her out and driving it up and down a couple times (clean the discs) i went to fire her back up about a hour later and no starter motor came in its a dry/corroded connection on the relay, just gave the fuse box a little tap and all was well but it will be looked at
still, having her out the garage gave me a chance to carpet the walls, the wife thinks im said and said next i would put it in a bubble, shock and laughter came next as i showed the air chamber on ebay
anyhow, couple pics, nothing had changed as yet, havent even got the scratch in the bonnet sorted, cos the car was out of site it was out of mind i guess, but soon, as im clearing the workshop out of all the $hit to air work on the xr, and the RS when i get her in there, but got other things going on with the space in the mean time
once shes been cleaned at the start of august and ive painted the angle steel that the roof of the garage is fixed too (as rust bits fall off it on car) i have a cover for the car too

Re: fiesta rs turbo, shes out in the open again LOL
cheers guys.
and shaun, its not rotton, flew through MOT without any probs as i knew she would
just need to get a battery for it now, and one for my run around escort, cant keep using clarks one off his RS
missis reckons im stupid with the carpet, little does she know what else i have planned for the garage
this is the run around btw, got for £70, needed a tad of welding to rear chassis rail and a small bit on the sill, well i say small, 75% of it had rotted near the lip and a patch about 2" square on the other sill.
rear arches a little grotty, mainly surface with only a few tiny and i mean tiny holes once ground up, which was a pleasent shock
engine is nice and quite, runs like a dream too, not a bad little car at all, had her on the road since start of july and cant fult it, bargin me thinks
gotta say though, driving it to MOT garage which is 30 second drive from where i live io forgot how heavy the steering was, and just how much i miss driving it, i think the tax will stay on her a little longer and i will get the use out of her a little more this year

oh yeah i did pump a fair bit in there
not at all mate, all tyres were near on new, and even came with a brand new set of ford brake disc in the boot which i havent fitted as i felt they didnt need it and MOT was ok.
only grip i have with the run around is the handbrake, its th elater escort that have the threaded adjuster next to the hand brake lever in the car, and the thread strips when adjusting the handbrake, like it did on this, but its ok.
oh, clutch will prob need doing at some point next year as its on its last knockings but dont slip yet, but they cheap enough, prob pick one up for £30, but yeah, all round a nice bargin anyway

Re: fiesta rs turbo, shes out in the open again LOL
, na dont wanna drive it when weather is crap mate, and i was gunna tax it at the start of april, which was put off for some reason, so i thought 1st of may, then i got made redundant and finished at the end of april so it was put off again as i used the money to buy the run around escort and get that taxed and MOTed, which i needed to do, cos to get to my workshop its up a private road and the RS wouldnt do it with the bumper on, or it will be so close it might catch, which i didnt want.
with the escort, i can get it up to the workshop, and fill the boot with $hit and not worry, hence why the RS is still sat there, and as ive said before shes been costing me insurance every month since jan, its crazy i know but it will be driven more between august and november, then ill cash the tax in till prob april time next year, and hopfully stick to april

Escort doesn't sound bad at all mate and I still love the RS, and hope it never changes. It's so different and you've done such a good job getting it looking how it is, definitely one of my favourite, if not my favourite car on here.

not as yet, been saying i would get the workshop cleared out and what not for some time now, so just getting round to do it really, even though there are 3 large rooms, a second floor ( 16 foot by about 10 foot) it was getting to the point you couldnt move, so big clear out, how it goes from there were have to see, but after ive cleared it i got about 20 tonne of machine and tooling to shift around

whats ya thoughts on the wheels though? there a bit "marmite" love or hate ya know, and i am strongly feeling the need to change them, not only because i want 16's, but i want them for the xr2 when its done, although i have seen a set of these wheels in 16's, but cant help thinking it needs something different

Re: fiesta rs turbo, shes out in the open again LOL
In my honest opinion mate it doesn't need changing at all. The whole look of the car is spot on I reckon and I'd be seriously considering a 16" set if I were you! Would look better a bit bigger but other than that, I wouldn't really change the style of them.
The marmite thing is what makes them brilliant mate! It would be so risky putting different wheels on it, when wheels can make or break a car so easily and I think you're spot on with what you've got.

cheers fella.
missis feels the same about the wheels, so i think if funds allow after ford fair i might see if they still got the 16's
only fear is clearance, the 16's are 7.5 ince wide with a ET35, and i think what i have has a ET38, and i know there 7 inch wide, with the rear disc it might cause problems on the ET35.
that said, the rate im going sorting this workshop, ill have a lathe in place within a couple to weeks although im awaiting some 3 phase wiring to hook it up, but the plan is to make new hubs for the rear which bring the wheels back into the arch.
its out about 20mm maybe a smige more, with what i have planned i can bring that in approx 15mm
and if i change the caliper mounting which i dunno if it will work, but if i can that will save another 5mm
still little way off yet, got loads to do even when workshop has been cleaned out, got a white FRST and a XR2 awaiting some jay love

Re: fiesta rs turbo, shes out in the open again LOL
For the last year of owning my Mk3, it was only driven about six miles, moving it in and out of the garage a couple of times, and then to its final resting place where it was stripped. For each of those short drives it felt like it had huge problems - steering so heavy it felt as though someone had poured sand in the steering rack, clutch pedal so heavy that it felt as though the release bearing had been coated in PVA glue onto the input shaft, brake pedal so long and vague that I thought the fluid must all have leaked out Boy do we get spoilt with the quality and general performance of good modern cars!! On the move and pulling hard through the gears brought it all right back though - man do they fly Enjoy what's left of the summer in yours dude

james, i know, same thing here with the heavy steering and clutch, although brakes were still spot on, better than the escort, and the wifes galaxy
