Re: fiesta rs turbo, updated 20/7 cam arrived

Postby jayrs on Mon Jul 25, 2011 11:42 pm

engine was finished off at the weekend, just gotta put the wheels on and lower it down then doing oil and water, and then firer it up, which i will try and do tomorrow it i get time, but i got so much going on with packing and what not even the simple tasks like finishing this off and running it have to be booked in

some new parts that ive had in the shed for some time were also fitted while the engine went back in,
brand new steering colum bulk head seal
brand new gearbox speed sensor
brand new breather pot

i also had my hand brake retaining clips arrive today from clark, so after ive moved house this weekend i will get the rear drums back on and in for a MOT then its out road testing it over a couple evenings and running the cam in :)

wanna say cheers to clark, as im robbing the rear drums off his RS   and putting my spares on his car, reasons for this, im unsure of the bearing conditions on my spare drums, where as the ones on clarks car are fine, and 2nd, clark has a complete zetec S rear beam with drums etc to be fitted and will not be needing his std ones no more, so again, cheers clarky boy :)

random pics will follow tomorrow

Re: fiesta rs turbo, updated 26/7 finally running again

Postby jayrs on Tue Jul 26, 2011 10:47 pm

well today i had a few hours so fcuked about, lowered it down on 4 wheels again, done the oil and water, and spent most of the time trying to get a air lock out the cooling system, gave up in the end as had somewhere to be, but ive never had that much hassle with a air lock before, still ill sort that next time i get time on it.

but it runs, primed fuel 3 times, turned the key and she fired into life first time and ran sweet, just as i expected she would.

tappets are not to bad, bit more noisey than i like, but not as bad as some new hydralic ones ive heard, but over all, for a solid lifter, deffo quiter then i expected, and im happy with it, so all good.

oil pressure started at a nice 70psi and didnt drop much when the engine warmed up so everything fine with the new oil pump, only issue is the air lock right now, but i'll sort it.
will check for signs of any leaks tomorrow, fingers crossed there wound be any, touch wood and all that.

some random pics, the last 2 not that good quality as i print screened them off the video i took as i forgot to take some when the car was down on the deck

cheers mate, shes not bad, although i do have some surface rust on the underside now since it was sat in the garage that used to fill with a inch of water, but its nothing major, will clean up, and the rear beanm will be powder coated at some point so not worried about that. but yeah over all shes in great nick mate :)

will get some vids, im one for not displaying my reg number all over the net and the vid i done yesterday catches it on the bumper for a split second, other wise i would of posted it up.
but will get a couple to post up after i move as i'll be getting her out the garage to put the rear drums back on

Postby jayrs on Sat Aug 13, 2011 12:39 pm

update time.
no pictures as still using the dongle but net should be back on within a week so will upload some pics then.

car went for the mot on friday the 5th, but failed the mot, well i say failed, it wasn't even mot'ed as they refused to do it, reason being, the stainless exhaust!
yes ive had it on there for about 12 years, but on the isle of wight (and it seems only the isle of wight) there having a big clamp down on bigbore exhausts due to boyracers racing up and down the dual, and as theres a housing estate next to the dual, the police had over 1000 complaints in a month so theres a big clamp down and talk of on the spot fines, and the mot tester him self has had visits from vosa about it, i even called them but it got me no where as its down to MOT tester to decide if the car is to loud or not, but as hes been collered a few times about it, hes not taking any risks and just says no, very annoying to say the least, but its how he makes a living and i respect that, so in light of this i was forced to rush about friday and dig out my std systme and put that on.

the back boc had been cut off so i had to wel that part of the pipe back onto the back box to have it a 2 part system again and i fitted it and she went back in sat morning and passed no problems, and the funny ting is, i kinda like having the quite std system back on it   so for now at least the std system will stay on.

also the rear disc set up has now been removed and its sporting std drum brakes again.
big thanks to tompeters for suppling me with 2 brake cylinders and a hand brake cable at a very fair price, and also a big thanks to clark (knuckles) for letting me rob his drums and back plates off his RS   this is because the spare rear beam i had did have drums and back plate, but i didnt know how good the bearings were, and once off the back plate were rotton to fcuk and worthy of scrap only, and as clark has a fiesta ZS rear beam complete hes going to fit on his RS hes stuff was not needed so he let me have it, nice one clarky boy :D
i had brand new brake shoes in stock i got about 9 years ago so these were used and all was good.
unfortunatly i had to buy some 3mm spacers as the tyre on the passanger side was just very slightly touching the spring platform of the coil over, so i spaced it out to avoid any rubbing that might happen.

i also removed the thermostat as i was having a bit of a nigntmare getting rid of the air lock, and didnt bother to refit it as im going to buy a new one, i didnt have time prior to fordfair to get one but i will soon.

i also got the oil temp gauge mounted in the centre consol.

went to fordfair sunday, car drove fine, no problems there or back, oil and water temps all fine, and ive driven it a few times since being back and still all good, and shock horror.......... its not been put back in the garage yet!!!!!! yes thats right, its down the side of the house on the drive, its rained, been $hit onby birds (cleaned off right away though) and got dusty due to on going building work (ive moved into a new build house and there still building around us) so yeah, the rs is going to be used more from now on :D

anyways, thats it for now, pics will be uploaded once my proper net is on, im not even going to try with this dongle as i'll end up lobbing the net book across the kitchen after a hour

yeah no probs mate, will get some when my main net is back on and upload then.

its nice and quite, but still has a nice sound to it, i forgot just how nice the std one sounds.
i think i might look into getting a stainless one made up to the same spec as the std one at some point, reason being, its not gunna rust out so i can forget about it, which is one main thing i like about all stainless exhausts.

bet ya any money it dont make my insurance go down anything considering its now got std spec cam, std drums, and std exhaust back on it

The ruling on exhausts its a bit of a grey area aint it? I refused to test a guys supercharged civic a few weeks ago. It had a four branch,de-cat and a straight through pipe with just a tiny rear silencer! It was stupendously loud

99% of modified cars we get in i just advise them as noisey. Mainly becuase me and my workmate both have aftermarket systems, it would seem a bit unfair otherwise!

Alot of the modifed stuff in our area seem to be coming to us because most testers hate testing them.

Enough about me, lets see some pics of yours ASAP :D

Postby jayrs on Sat Aug 13, 2011 6:18 pm

yeah it is, and i been using that garage for a last 5 years and i was hoping he would at least put it down as a advisory, but he did say it was borderline and to cover his own back said take it to the vosa place in cowes and if they say its ok then he will test it, but when i called vosa they didnt wanna know and told me to go back to the mot place, and tbh, i had had enough of it all by then and just pu the std system back on, thinking i will put the stainless back on later, but as it turned out, and as i said, i kinda like having the std system back on it
mind you mot place did cover there ar$e, they took 3 pictutres of the exhaust to prove it was std system on there when MOT'ed so i belive it when they say they had vosa down there a few times.

anyways, i will try and upload a couple pics now, the dongles not great but ill give it a bash

As a mot tester I would fail a fooudging loud exhuast but would only have a leg to stand on if I had a decibel meter BUT VOSA/SEPA say a db meter is not needed for a mot and is down to the tester A BIG grey area if u ask me :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-?

shaun, yeah i had a slight trim before fordfair to stop the hair getting in my eyes as i drove so its understandable

mark, i fear that over time it will be :( i think the likes of scobbies and civics with halford specials hanging out the back have done the trick over here :( :(

cheers dave :Q

mike, they didnt have a DB reader at the mot place, all vosa said was i could take it to one that has one, but then quickly followed it up by saying there is no legisation in place for it..... i thought there was, but yeah, proper grey area at the mo, but theres still plenty of cars about with bigbores on, but ive heard from a few of the guys about section 59's being handed out, and i dont fancy having my car taken off me cos the police think im some sort of 17 year old c**t that drives a civic on the red line up the dual all the time just cos i got a "boy racer car" so for now, the std one stays.

clark and shaun, std front bumper........... i wont say never, but its not on the cards any time soon, but std wheels, cant see that ever happening

 well we're says its returninging... i still havent washed it since ford fair   but i have checked it twice a day for bird crap and cleaned that off :bonkers:

oh i dunno if i said, but i have modded some rear seat plates (the metal bits) for head rests, rthe reason there not fitted yet is down to time, and the fact i cant find the plastic trim covers for the top of the seat, other wise i would of had them in for ford fair, but there 95% done and will be fitted shortly :)

next mod on the cards which i been wanting to do for about 4 years or more, is change the EW switches for later sdpec ones, but keep them in the centre consol, but i dont want to cut off the old EW plugs and solder on new ones, i will make adaptors that plug into the ols EW switch plugs

that exhaust issue is nutsack ha!
shame they cant notice a genuine enthusiast who wants his car minty!

probably think we're all the same with the back boxes, in my opinion, no matter how awesome they are! its the fast and furious films that f**cked it for us

its good to see it being used too! get some more miles on her :) more miles means more smiles ;)
