Need to know the weight per cubic foot / density, or similar, otherwise you can only work out the volume not the number of tonnes you need :p

Edit: i get 280 cubic feet? or just shy of 8 cubic metres?

Edit 2: To need 18 tonnes, the hardcore must way 2.25 Tonnes per cubic metre :p

windscreen is out so no worries there

i dunno how the woman (nuff said,) worked it out, but i had the guy come up today and the big lorry wont get up there, i reckon it would of but when he said it takes 20 tonne i saw where he was coming from   so the loads are gunna come in about 4 tonne loads, which is good and also bad, the good thing is, i only have to shift 4 tonne at a time before the rs goes back in (best if its raining!) the bad bit is, due to coming in more trips the 18 tonne is gunna cost me more for delivery :( , the small wagon is £25 per load delivery ontop of the price of the stuff.
had the big lorry been able to go up it would of been 1 maybe 2 trips and would of worked out at about £225 delivered, but with the small wagon it gunna be approx 4 trips and work out at £325 :( he thinks bunging a bit more on , on each run would build up the 2 tonne short fall to save on another trip, but hey ho, it needs doing and doing quick so ill have to go for it, but 1 good thing, if i need less than 18 tonne, it means i havent got a mound sat there doing nothing

Re: fiesta rs turbo rebuild update 8/6 oil cooler

Postby jayrs on Sun Jun 08, 2008 8:23 pm

very small update, been wanting a oil cooler for some time and decided today fcuk it, and bought one.
yeah i know i need tyres for the 16's, etc etc but if i didnt get it now it wouldnt of happened, plus the cash i got would of got wasted on something like the £70 i "had" last week :x

anyway, both bits from ebay

first up, 13 row oil cooler, write up on ebay about it is as follows (not that we all dont know what they are:lol:

"
Brand new aluminium INTERCAL engine oil cooler, 13 row with 1/2" BSP fittings.

Dimensions are 285mm x 97mm x 50mm.

The measurement between the centres is 220mm and over the brackets is 330mm. Part no (IC23513BM12)"

Image

was £38 inc post, as said bought it today so will await it in the week.

also got a mocal sandwich plate with built in thermostat , SPEC: 80degree C thermostat, 3/4UNF oil filter thread
, 1/2bsp pipe fittings

Image

was £44.98.

im buying a oil temp gauge off mike on here so will be plumbing that in too in place of where the turbo timer used to be me thinks but we will see.

the pipes for the oil cooler im gunna have made at my local hydralics place, far cheaper than what places like ebay, burton etc could do them for also

floor wise, will be contacting the guy tomorrow to arrange the first delivery of hard core for this week, will be coming in 4 tonne loads, but its cash buying, so no proper delivery time, if you catch me drift  so cant say when the loads will come etc but hopfully fairly quick :)

Nice buy that man.

I have always siad that an oil cooler would be a good mod for an frst because they are soooo well known for running hot. So anything that will aid cooling is a must really. Especially when the cost is next to nothing when compared with the cost of repairing overheating damage :)

keep the updates coming.

cheers dude, got the cooler and sandwich plate today.
not opened them yet though

the first 4 tonne of hardcore went in yesterday, took a couple hours to move it into the floor and i sweated my nats off as it was baking hot :x but now its in i dont think 18 tonne is needed.
prob got a couple tonne of hardcore about which is going in, then i reckon another 4 tonne, 6 tops will have it ready for cement.
and the big bonus, the first load was £60 delivered, and he reckons there was between 3.5 and 4 tonne on there, so floor could work out cheaper then first expected :)

indeed mate! got another 4 tonne being dropped tomorrow morning at 8am, so gotta be out there and have the car out by latest 7.45am really.
ment to be raining tomorrow (friday) so i bought a 4.9meter x 7.90 meter tarpoling (dunno how its spelt) to cover the RS save it getting wet inside, normaly i would just put it off for another day but im pushing this along best i can :)
i cleared the rest of the crap out the floor today and laid the plastic and preped it ready for the hardcore in the morning so its all wagons roll when it gets there.
gunna try and shift the stuff in a hour as i wanna get on with some other bits and i gotta go into town and with the isle of wight festival going on 1/2 mile from my house the roads around my way and town are fcuking manic! :x
well this was the mound the other day

Image

anyway enough of the floor crap, i trial fitted the oil cooler today, popped in to a hydralics place near me and spoke to the guy in there, the fittings are £5 each and the pipe is £6 per meter :oooh: anyway he sent me on my way with just over 3 meters of pipe, 4 stright fittings and 2 90degree ones, and i didnt pay a penny! it wasnt free unfortunatly, just a loan to work otu what fittings would be needed and how much pipe etc, i did give the guy my name and address and phone number but he didnt ask for that, now thats trust! :Q
anyhow, picture below shows the cooler just a tad off center, it was moved over and made to be in the centre after the pic was taken and the bumper was only fitted to trial fit the cooler to see what room was behind it etc.
anyway the pipes were laid out and cut, but thinking tonight as i write this im thinking i maybe should of set the cooler off center to the passanger side as the number plate will hang down and stop a bit of air flow to the cooler :oooh: still, not that it will make a difference but its somthing to bear in mind i guess.

Its good to see her with the bumper on for once lol. She actually looks kinda like a car again.

I would agree with putting the cooler to one side. Apart from airflow reaons I think it would look better to the side anyways.

yeah its been too long hasnt it

the cooler wont be seen anyway mate as i have mesh for the bumper, but i may just set it offside a tad if the pipes will allow as the pipes were marked and cut etc for it to be in the centre

oh and talking of pipes, fcuking £50 they cost me :o :o to say i walked like john wayne when i came out of there is a under statment!
the first guy said fittings were £5 each and the pipe was £6 per meter, well i have 4 fittings and 2.8 meters of pipe, to me that works out at £38, but the guy i saw today said £50, and it was cash with no bill so dunno what fiddle the first guy was on

still i needed them, and it has worked out at £132.98 for this cooler kit, if i had got a complete kit off ebay it would of come in at £141.97, so not a great saving  but i have pipes the lenth i want and i can run them where i want, and its proper hydralic hose with a inner steel braid with crimped fittings so cant really complain.
will bung a pic up at some point.

anyway, got another 4 tonne of hard core delivered today and shiffted it in, will shutter it up over weekend/beginning of next week ready for the cement.
i have ditched the idea of getting balist and bags of cement, as thats looking to work out at £260 :oooh: where as i can have 2 square meters (its enough) of ready mixed delivered for £231 cash :D so cheaper, easier and i wont break my back having to mix up 4 tonne of cement
i will be ordering that monday but when i got a price they said they cant delier till thursday/friday, which is a bit of a bummer but still, its happing.
by a week monday my car will then be sat in there ready to be emptied and cracked on with :Q

i cant wait mate, been tto long coming, but still its getting done.
today i had to (well my dad done it) weld the wifes exhaust on the galaxy, and while waiting for the paint to dry on the exhaust we preped the room ready for the ready mix, we batoned it out and it seems in areas we need a bit more hard core :( but we have a load we can dump in there so no more money needs to be spent on hard core, and no more slogging my nuts off shifting it

these are the £50 oil lines for the cooler, i cant see any way how there gunna suck me off though, would of thought for that price they would of

Who's been a busy lad then?????..... Great stuff Jay, hoping to see this at Ford Fair this year now :Q

Before you said about the mesh in the front bumper i was going to suggest dropping the the main bumper bar and plastic welding lower and building the cooler and meshing there but your way would be better and you wouldn't have to worry about the fan.

Great work mate
