Fiesta ST 2.3 Turbo project - summer spent in the garage lol
Hi
I have found myself coming more and more on this site recently so I thought I would add some of my winter plans for my poor fiesta ST. Yes I know it is not the usual project on here but it is a fiesta and will be turbo so please be gentle
This is how my ST currently stands (pics from last weekend before FF)
Very brief spec:
Around 190-200bhp
AP brakes
Flocked dash with bucket seats and flocked pillars
Gaz coilovers and polybushes
There is pages more (there is a topic on STOC with all the details)
Now to the fun bit. In winter the current 2.0 ST engine will be replaced with a 2.3 low comp duratec. I will put engine spec up once I have finished buying everything and it is built in a few months time. It will be running aftermarket management to power the engine.
The turbo kit has now all been bought and is with me. It will be running a GT2871R turbo and should be good for upto 400bhp. Everything was designed and made by the previous owners and is all custom one off fabrication. Here is how the turbo kit looked in the last owners car:
A few pics of what I have bought so far for the project:
2.3 block
Turbo conversion parts
Custom 3" exhaust
CP Pistons
Other bits and pieces
Plenty more money to be spent very soon lol

Ha, I can't really take any credit for being "involved" mate - just shared a couple of PM's over transmission and oil returns etc
The good thing about the MK6 is that it has the Duratec already in place so half the work's already done!
With 400 BHP this one will be a bit of a weapon - can't wait to see and hear it (I don't think I'll try to race it though! )

LOVELY in its current state!
say it to alot of people that much power in a Fwd car will be hard driving it!? sure you wanna go that far!? my FRST had a great spec and was 250+ hp and span in most gears, iim aware of the gearbox your using however would it not be worth not going SO far and have a enjoyable car at 300hp? or perhaps go RWD or 4x4 or something!? only saying as i spent over 10-15k on my fiesta and it was a waste tbh spent the same on a cossie in std road form and its 600hp with grip and prob do 11s 1/4's when done!!
too many people chase figures and the car becomes undrivable, take it from me who has got the tshirt...

Jimmyesh and rs_seg: thanks for your help guys. As I have said to you most of this is new to me so I hope you dont mind if I send you a few more over the coming months
MAD_Adamski: You are correct mate - it might be a little OTT but I will probably have multiple boost settings and for most of the time will run a lower setting. At the moment the car is about 200bhp and is soo boring to drive due to the inlet sapping torque from the engine.
I am looking at doing it because I have always wanted to spec and have my own engine built. My car is my hobby and I enjoy learning about the different aspects of it. If I was to go for a 300bhp spec engine and turbo it would cost me almost as much as a much larger spec due to the gearbox and ECU change needed for both and I know I will want more so I decided to get the most bang for my buck and go straight to the higher spec.
If I find it a complete nightmare to drive I can always acquire a spare shell and get the angle grinder out

boost settings are good i run my cossie on low all the time, then if i wanna play fick it up. thats the problem with some N/a my vr6 lacked too much torque real shame ,, sounds like your on the ball just try and keep it quality yet easy on the pocket

Re: Fiesta ST 2.3 Turbo project
Todays bundle came from part-box.com
Not the most interesting of parts but got my ARP main studs, 2.3 chain assembly and my cosworth high flow oil pump.
There is still lots to be bought for the engine including rods (most likely Carillo H-Beams), supertech flat head valves, cosworth valve springs and the head needs porting and polishing before it can all be put together by Mr Hayes. I have a spare sump which has gone off to be chemically cleaned before being drilled and having an alloy fitting welded for the oil return. I might even use a small 90 degree tube so the return pipe can be smaller and straight but we will have to see.
Also being a bufty at heart and having a professional sprayer for a mate, most of my engine bits have gone off to be sprayed. So far I have got my front cover back which is panther black. The block will be sea grey, the rocker cover performance blue and the sump will be black. I expect all these to give me at least 30bhp extra!! If you need anything small sprayed (he only has limited facilities and time) then let me know - his work is better than bodyshop quality at a fraction of the price and he has most ford colours in stock.
Other than buying turbo gaskets and a couple of other bits like heat wrapping for my manifold thats about it.

Re: Fiesta ST 2.3 Turbo project
Cheers guys. Couple more bits done for the new engine – cue usual crappy iPhone pics!
Firstly I have bought a brand new standard head with cams and followers which is from mountune.
I did already have a spare head but as I plan on running standard cams to at least run in the engine this deal was ideal and also great value The head will be unassembled and sent out very soon for head work. I have also ordered some cosworth valve springs and Supertech nitride coated flat head valves which should be with me very soon and that will be the cylinder head finished.
Also a few more bits back from my mate who has sprayed them for me – Rocker cover has been done in performance blue and the block in sea grey
Then as I had everything there, I thought it was only right that I saw what it will look like all together – I cant wait now!!
Apart from the head work, the only thing I need now is the con-rods. I still want Carrillo H-Beams which are on backlog in the USA but will hopefully have some for xmas time and then it can all be built up and I can worry more about the transmission.
I also got my used oily sump back from a friend who was going to clean it up for me - it now looks better than a brand new one I also seem to have acquired as all the casting marks have been removed.
Oh and finally I have been informed the car is in Performance Ford readers cars this month so I strongly recommend you buy this months (like I might do lol)

Perfect, .63 exhaust housing? I'll be interested to see what you get from it; going from the parts going in to this engine I suspect you may well reach the limits of the 2871! It's exactly what I've gone for on my ZT (although not yet purchased) and I'm looking at 350, although it will support more when I decide to get the head and valves modified.

Re: Fiesta ST 2.3 Turbo project
I am pretty sure it is .82 mate - I didn't spec the turbo as I bought all the conversion parts as a 'kit' from a good mate of mine - he kept the engine but I had most of his other bits - its all custom made and you can see how it was made in more detail on here -- http://www.fiestastoc.com/forums/topic/ ... e-time-on/ - I think he made 380bhp/410lbft before stripping it but was on standard inlet etc.
I think the turbo on a 2.3 should easily go over 400

It will with that exhaust housing and engine spec, I just read the post on STOC and that's quite a parts list!

Re: Fiesta ST 2.3 Turbo project
Just a quick update
Firstly I got my sump back from the fabricators and they have fabricated a penis onto it
My valves are currently in UK customs so after they have attempted to rob me, I should have them soon. My springs are still on back order at the moment
Oh yeah and i sent the only decent pics I have of my car (which are the ones at the start of this topic lol) to Performance Ford a bit ago and it made it into the readers section My cleaning bits came today

Re: Fiesta ST 2.3 Turbo project
Being completely honest I am a little worried that it is too low so I am going to fill it with some water and see how much will be below it etc.
I may have to be slightly smarter with a baffle or similar as I cant really put it much higher on the sump and dont want to have to be drilling through my block.

Agreed, it looks too low. It also looks like they used the incorrect grade of filler rod for cast aluminum.

This is the Turbo oil drain yes, rather than the breather? If so it's seriously low, you may prevent drain during hard cornering.
