Finally lowered and proper wheels!

Postby heeman10 on Mon Feb 23, 2004 7:30 pm

Well it's been a long time coming, I've had little time to devote to the poor Fiesta! Busy weekend...put the wheels on on Saturday, then went to Fiesta-Steve's house bright and early on Sunday to lower it. A quick picture diary:

Just before the swap:

And after the swap:

Still riding high:

High, but better:

The drums now visible...some ppl like red, some prefer black, I don't mind hearing opinions :)

Before lowering at Steve's:

After lowering:

Mine next to Steve's (that's his second car while work continues on his):

And now it's back in the shed!

HUGE thanks to Steve for giving up over FIVE HOURS on a freezing cold Northern Sunday, enduring salt from the road being hurled into our eyes by passing cars/hurricanes. You are a living legend my son :D

I'm thrilled with the results, though sadly have some rubbing issues to address. And of course, there will still be a little more lowering to come while the suspension beds in :) It's going to be exactly what I wanted :)

you say your thrilled, and i think you have every reason to be, as you saying the results are stunning. your car is looking mint mate, the wheels really do make a huge difference !!

take it it's lowered on a 35mm g-max kit ? just had my si done on the same, good kit for the money IMO.

Thanks for those comments :) You know I love your car now too Sarah ;)

Robin - It's on a 35mm kit for the RS1800, which by my reckoning drops my standard ride height by 60mm :)

Thanks a lot xander, I am really happy with it cosmetically. Just got to wait till summer for the power I need then it's sorted :)

I wanted it to sit on the wheels properly without hiding them and looking like a bit of a pikey car *waits for abuse*, and I need a decent ride height for Cumbrian roads and speed bumps etc. I wanted practical with good handling and looks without going over the top, and this kit suits me down to the ground, bar the wheels rubbing every now and then :x

Well what can I say, youve made one of the most mintest looking cars on here even minter! All she needs now externally is a mk4 rear wiper arm, some RS accessory rear lights and some ford headlamp covers.

Then she will be perfect.

As you can tell, im a tad jelous :bonkers:

Mmm I'm not a fan of the Mk4 wiper arms, that's one of the things (along with most parts of the car!!) I want to keep standard. I like the RS accessory lights, but think they're too expensive. I'll save for a respray before I buy a pair of lights for that much money I think. Appreciate the comments though :)

They're the Escort 15s, and yes it did look funny/homosexual before it was lowered  Cheers for that Mike! And thanks for the mirrors ;)

A couple of pictures to show the ride height on the 15s before I lowered it:

Dave Zetec - The ride's perfect. It's firm, not harsh. Absorbs, but doesn't shudder everything! :)

Sphinx - Thanks....but shuttup! :p

bluefiestamk3 - yes it is a tailpipe trim, I still have nightmares about it! lol It's going in summer, along with the NA diesel :)

DJ Josh - I painted them red mainly cos the tin was open and I couldn't be bothered opening the black tin and washing the brush off  I think I'll leave them red for now...perhaps re-paint them if/when they set on fire :aaah:

RobNo1 - I think your car looks good -60, but the practicality side of things needs upholding in my case!

Capri - I want to see your car too! Will see what the weather's like nearer FITP....

Spo0n - I'm not touching the Retro! though someone has snapped off my passenger mirror....there's a £1.50 I didn't want to have to spend

I'm going to take the spacers off next time I'm home, as it may be pushing the wheels out too far, making them catch on the bodykit arches, then reduce the steering lock a tiny bit to protect the arch liners.

Rob, LOWER?!

Mixon says his is fine, and tomdom. M is on standard shocks as well.

CO's are not really in question, i dont have the money and im not *that* bothered about ride in a 1.1/3. Allthough i want it a comprimise between cost and ride / handling.

Cheers Max :) In the couple of years I've had mine, and in the time I've been on this site I've seen a few with the Escort wheels on and I think they look cracking, as do the Mondeo 16" versions. They *shouldn't* rub either, unlike bigger wheels. I'm fairly confident the rubbing will subside once I've taken the spacers off.

Rob - I left the base plates as so much of my car is red now (no rub strips, coded handles and mirrors) that it would've look soooo bland with the base plates red too. I'm surprised no-one's told me it looks too "red" yet actually. I'm happy with that though :)
